"Here again, eh?"

The young man's voice met the wind with a bittersweet tone from memory. But like his accomplice, it was there and yet not. He waited for Bodak on the sidewalk of another empty street. It was more damp than normal, no snow as the weather seemed to have been changing, yet the cold hadn't left. It seemed to have been apart of life, never quite leaving even when warm. A remnant could be guaranteed to remain deep in the bones, it had no home, and simply was everywhere and nowhere. A contradiction, an existence that had no name, truly familiar...

Tecka had kept an eye out for the woman, though he had known she probably wasn't in the best of shape since the night of the ritual, and neither of them could be really 'okay', then again what was okay? Who determined when someone could feel okay, who even determined what okay was defined as or by? Truly it was the person whom used it, but no one definition is exactly alike any other, as with most things. "Okay." he muttered, the steam of his breath leaving just as quickly as it appeared. Looking down at his palm, then firmly gripping tightly at the air between his fingers as it would leave, pushed out of his hand. He began to wonder, "Just how much is my servitude worth?"

Questions like this one, and many others hit him, now, only after the fact that he'd sworn it away at a promise of power. A promise to be a better person in the name of someone else. A promise to be someone else with a better name than the one his new god didn't have. Sometimes he would even think that maybe his god had a name, but simply had forsaken it for power. Just how much can one give for power?

"As much as is desired for power." He'd answer before finishing. "Well, you know what they say. You never know what you got till it's gone, or you didn't care for it in the first place...err one persons trash is another persons treasure?"

QUEST

Client:
Martin Martello: A newcomer to the crime-world of Oak, Martin is a ruthless gang leader who opposes Vincenze Tessio. He is aware of the fact he is fighting an uphill battle against the older, more powerful man, but Martin does not care. He resorts to force at the slightest notice, not resting until he comes out on top.

Details:

[*]You stand outside the Martello family's house, map in hand, ready to take down the cash house.
[*]Head to the cash house which is a deserted diner that is no longer being used. It's pretty secluded from the rest of the buildings in the street.
[*]Go inside without being noticed and try to find the hidden cash.
[*]Eventually you'll find it in a bag underneath some loose tiles in the storage room since the tiles were not placed back properly.
[*]Pull out the bag, find something flammable and douse the diner in it, after which you must light it and leave the place. If you're a fire mage you may use magic to start a fire.
[*]As you walk away and blend into the crowd, one of the Martello members will walk past you and take the bag from you without drawing any attention.

Wherever you looked, life and death lingered on every corner. With good health, someone had equally ailing health. In your good fortune, another had the same in misfortune. There was balance, with joy, there was suffering. By those facts alone, you could assume by bringing about evil and chaos, you would bring equal good, and order. It wasn't that simple, but to Bodak, it didn't matter either way. She was here for money alone. She didn't care about who it hindered or who it helped. She served her god, no matter what time, era, or method. She would fund only the family that gave her life, and the guild that sheltered her. She owed no one anything, Only her creator.

"Rise again, my child. Face a body that is not your own, to be met with one that will soon be mine. Go. Go and serve your desires."

A skinny cigar lay between her lips again. She had grown addicted to the smoke, the haze, the mystery. She was not bound to life like others, but still she knew of her own mortality. She would fill herself with the poisons she could cure, the toxins she could manage. Even if she could heal, a cancer stick was far beyond her desires to mend, if she could anyways.

"Only as much as the knowledge you collect." she would answer. "She does not abandon her people. But often, people choose to stray from her. We may be on leashes, but our freedom is our own. We only act when called upon."

Offerings. Pledges. Payment. Sacrifice. How much could you give up to another, before you have nothing left of who you are? How much would you, no no... how much could you give up for the sake of something greater? Could you give your own identity? Your own humanity? Or perhaps would it be stripped from you. . .

"How many times does a phoenix have to burn out before it can understand how it rises again?" She held the paper in her hands, following the directions to this forsaken place. She looked up, displeased. It was a job, it paid well enough. But still, how could they allow themselves to do such things for their own namesake. Couldn't they take the money for themselves?

No. That was dishonor.

A Manji never seeks dishonor.

Tecka Majora
"Oh, right..."

The young black haired man murmured. Bodak's words cut a bit deeper than he would have liked as it was hard not to revert to old habits and behaviors, but he was a changed man, and at least he was right about her location: close but not in sight. "You have a knack for that sort of thing huh?" he said scratching the back of his head like he'd remembered something that was forgotten earlier. The woman revealed herself, with the flyer for the job in hand. She was very by the book with things, but it was to be expected. She was the guild's record keeper after all.

"This way." he'd say as he began to walk up the street away from the building they stood in front of. The location they'd met at was chosen specifically for this job as a landmark from where they needed to head, though Tecka would know nothing of it. He only knew where to go based upon word of mouth from the man who requested the duo to take the job. Had Bodak decided to accompany him, they would find themselves standing outside the front of an abandoned diner. The location was rather kept a secret and even distant from any other businesses, which made it clear that anything that would be occurring here isn't within the legal realm of things to be done.

It was normal though, for Tecka and Bodak by now. Bodak of course seemed to be very familiar with this sort of work, unknown, unnoticed, and indescribable- as in it never happened. Tecka though, familiar with the line of work, had just now become accustomed to the area and the type of facade to be worn when undergoing these tasks. It was easier to stay professional, and get things done when done in a group that knew the ins and outs of most things that related to the street. The young man looked back, whispering to bodak as he climbed the side of the building "Keep a look out. I'll take the roof, and meet you on the inside."

As he just lifted his left leg over the ledge of the roof, he'd look back at bodak, uttering one last thing in silence "And remember.." followed by a hand sign of him putting his finger over his mouth to signal to her, that she should keep things on the quiet side.

It was fear. It had to be. There was no other emotion she would come to understand and embrace. The rest were pushed aside and ignored. It was the fear of a god's wraith that she could be thrown aside so easily. She feared one being alone, and it was the one thing that allowed her to tether to this world. Death would only allow her to gather more information. But if she wanted to be on her god's good side, she had to do everything to the letter, down to each detail left behind. She wasn't just a record keeper. She was the holder of her god's final wishes.

It wasn't long until they reached the diner, the place of their newly found duty. However the mission itself seemed shrouded in mystery. She didn't care, she was Oak's clean up crew. She had to get her hands dirty to clean up other dirt. It was best to aid them for the time being, to pit them against each other. To allow them to exterminate each other to cleanse this city.

But was that her wishes or her god's?

It was nearly night, and the only eyes on them were the hands that posted the same request. There wasn't a soul to confront them. Bodak heard his words and nodded at his plan. She would wander around the ground level, looking for a way in. As any building in this city was, there was bound to be an opening, if not an unlocked door.

He'd signal her to be quiet, and she couldn't help but smile. She wasn't sure if he was serious or mocking her.

She made her way to the back of the diner, dragging her hand over the walls of the diner. Surely with age, something was bound to-

It fell. Like nothing but a sand castle knocking over. It hit the ground with a poof like dust. There was no glass, only the rotted drywall and wood. She shrugged it off. Surely it was nothing more than part of her job than luck. This was how they wanted them to do this.

She took a step in and begun to tap her foot on the ground to find whatever the cash would have been hiding under.

Tick tock.

Time was running out. But with it, day.

But who was there to see? Who would ever notice?

No one would.

"I wouldn't be surprised if you could find the devils heart."

He uttered quietly with joy. He was sure Bodak would find the stash, watching her through the small glass window panes on the roof as she made her way in and went around searching the rear of the ground level. Taking one of the emergency exits and the stairs in reverse, Tecka found himself entering into a narrow hallway from the emergency exit door midway through the diner, following it forward until he had reached the kitchen area. Inside the main dining area of the abandoned small food chain, directly after the kitchen, a group of men had set up seemingly taking turns sleeping while one had been lookout.

Unfortunate for them, the lookout had been knocked asleep, but it was understandable. The stress they probably were under could cause one to fall asleep at the most important of times. Tecka, a counter's leap away from the group had crouched low, slowly making his way over to one of the stoves, silently lighting it. He then picked up some of the discarded lighter fluid in a bright white bottle with a faded red tip, the outside covered in mold and dirt. The next objects of interest he'd grab were a few of the napkins that were laying around, twisting them together at the end so that the fire would grow slowly.

He plunged the twisted napkin into the small flame on the stove top, carrying it with him as he slowly crept out from the kitchen- lighter fluid leaking in a constant stream as he exited. Making sure he'd spray every door, piece of wood, and dry rotted material with the fluid, Tecka held the container now empty, over the flame he carried as it too caught fire- violently. The bottle would make a slight popping noise, pieces of melted plastic and some sparks flying all around and onto the door and floor covered in flammable fluid. Tecka threw the paper he'd been carrying as more fuel for the slowly growing fire as it spread through the front of the diner. It was far too late to go back, and by now Bodak surely would have found the bag. All he would have to do now is find her and make their exit.

Running through the back hall from his crouch, Tecka reached one the room where Bodak would have entered from at the rear, finding her in the room stomping around the tiles. Some of them, already loose shook apart even further revealing the bag they'd been looking for. Tecka announced quietly and calmly, with a playful smirk "The fire's lit. Let's not stay for the barbecue." Grabbing the bag off of the ground, he'd secure it's weight to his side, waiting for Bodak to leave the Diner before following. As they would make their exit through the presumably gathered crowd, unseen, Tecka would slide the strap off of his shoulder, handing the bag off to a mysterious bystander as they would pass each other.

Loveless Child
She could feel the change. It brought her excitement to know that times were changing, but with it, fear of her own purpose. Soon, she would be outdated and obsolete. She would have great fear, if it was something she was capable of feeling. But she was not going to let it distract her from her mission.

Her feet tapped the tiles and pushed them aside. Some showing nothing more than dirt and old glue, others showing markings of something much more sinister. What was this diner, really? She could smell the gas and hear her partner begin to prepare to burn the building down, along with the evidence they were even there. She wanted to know more, but there was no time. She had to finish the job.

She kicked a tile, only to have it shatter across the ground. The sound of the ceramics pinging off each other, with another leaving an odd sound. She went to where the difference lay and kicked the loose tiles. They would cave in, showing a bag. She would lift it up with her foot hooking the handle. She would place it to the side, kneeling down to check what was inside.

There it was.

"Agreed. Take this to the man, I'll meet you back at the guild." she'd say. She would make her exit opposite of him. After all, they didn't need to draw suspicion with two people leaving a building together.

And with that... she would vanish behind the building, only to dance within the shadows . . .
