Kishin walked into the forge, the sound of hammering ringing in his ears. He saw the smith, Barras, busy at work, his muscles straining as he pounded away at the metal. Kishin approached the anvil, where the smith's assistant was waiting with a piece of soft metal. The assistant, with his injured arm, placed the metal on the anvil and gestured for Kishin to begin.

Kishin had found himself impressed by Barras's work, the quality of his wares was outstanding, and he had been excited to learn from him first. He had spent hours at the forge, working alongside Barras and his assistant, learning all he could about the trade. He had watched as Barras crafted weapons and armor, his skill and expertise evident in every strike of the hammer.

But despite his hard work and dedication, Kishin knew that he could never reach the same level of skill and mastery as Barras. He knew that his lack of magical ability would always hold him back, and it was a constant reminder of his limitations.

Kishin picked up the hammer once more, feeling its weight in his hand. He raised it high above his head and brought it down with a loud clang, flattening the metal. He repeated the process, hammering away at the metal until it was smooth and flat. The repetitive motion was almost hypnotic, and Kishin found himself lost in the monotony of the task. He couldn't help but think back to when he was a boy and would watch the metal mages at work, creating beautiful and intricate pieces of art with their magic. He had always dreamed of becoming a metal mage himself, but his unmagical abilities had shattered that dream.

As the day wore on, Kishin's arms began to ache and his hands were sore from gripping the hammer. He could feel sweat pouring down his face and his back, but he pushed through the discomfort, knowing that this was his job now. He couldn't help but feel a sense of disappointment that this was all he was capable of. He was a grown man now, but he couldn't shake off the feeling that he was stuck in a dead end.

As the day came to a close, Barras approached Kishin and handed him a small pouch of coins. "Thank you for your help," he said. Kishin took the pouch and nodded, not trusting himself to speak. He felt a sense of emptiness as he left the forge, knowing that this was his life now. He would never be able to create anything truly beautiful or powerful, and the thought left him feeling gloomy and defeated. He had always wanted more for himself, but now he couldn't help but feel that this was the best he could ever hope for. He knew he had to accept his fate and move on, but it was hard to do so with a heavy heart. He walked home, the weight of the pouch heavy in his pocket, feeling like he had lost a part of himself.
