Saturn
Saturn was quite pleased with many of those that were joining the knights in rapid order. It wasn’t a surprise that their ranks were boltering in a time of peace; with the void on the backfoot for the most part after the defeat of darkfang many people were flocking to the guilds that were responsible for their defeat in one way or another. Supplies were easier for them to procure and it felt like one in every household was trying to sign up. It was a recruiters nightmare.

But for him? There were people that stood out even among the recruits, even among those you’d consider rookies. One such individual was someone that piqued his interest from the get go. It was rare for people that weren’t quite adults to join the rune knight for one reason or another. But they rarely turned them away; in fact using their time as youths to build them up still.

It had its consequences sure but the record and application of a particular Nikolai von Mardt crossed his desk one morning alongside another individual he had already spoken to. He had originally thought the pair brothers but that had been dashed when he read into the reports of both. They had simular backstories to a degree which was unfortunate; the similarities however both had them rising to the occasion to join the rune knights.

The rune knight general was sitting in his office, pondering over all of this when he realized he could speak to them. The reports of who was where coming to his desk and he was thrilled to see they were in town; sometimes you could never get to talk to someone just because they were halfway across the world. Getting to speak to someone so earlier in their career was a boon on itself. So he’d send one of the guards to go and get the youth and sent the other to go and take a break.

Saturn leaned back in his chair thoughtfully, staring at the ceiling with cracked eyes. The honeyed hues of gold pondering what all he could do with so many that were so willing to pursue justice. Just this last month they had exploded in ranks and he felt like that was going to continue. He had even got word that many people were looking forward to their rehoming in vander tower.

It would be strange to have the headquarters away from the capital but in an effort to distance themselves from politics it was the wisest move to use the generals personal holdings to host the rune knights. His smile widened a little bit as he realized that would make vander tower even more of a bustling city state.

The mindrache really are going to have a good and protected home aren’t they…

He was practically the guardian of the little dwarven dragons and that was absolutely fine with him. Having a mighty companion of that ilk was one thing but to take the whole nation of them under your belt was certainly quite another! He’d love for them to be associated with the rune knights as a whole and be able to live in peace. It was something that he could see happening in the years to come…

Nikolai
He had to fight his jittering. He sat in his chair down a hallway that felt longer the longer he spent in it, waiting to be called by the General himself for what review or another -- he wasn't sure on the details, just that his presence was requested and it probably wasn't to send him to prison. You could never be too careful, he argued, and sat up straighter with ears poofed at either side of his head. Black fur stood out against the fluffy white of his mane, and a similarly colored tail thumped mutedly down the back of the chair. He was a good boy, he was, and he made an effort to showcase this to anyone that passed; all knights far his senior in age or ranking, and the recruit wasn't about to botch his future prospects with the institution by being out of line here.

It was his leg that toed this line, quite literally. It kept bouncing. He couldn't help it - his tail alone didn't outlet the energy necessary to calm his sails, so his limbs took over, tapping, clicking, wandering -- he'd casually clench both of his hands over on knee while sheepishly smiling at a passersby he almost tripped, only for the other leg to kick up and tamp its energetic anxiety out from under him and in the way of the busy persons that crossed him. He yanked all of his limbs back in and hugged around his waist, one eye squinting with a grin - bashful, lopsided - to assure everyone he was doing fine, just fine. He crossed his legs in an interlock beneath the chair.

His tail flared up, fur in all directions, and wiggled in incessant taps at the seat's wood arch -- and he winced, waving a hand to apologize when it appeared to irritate the man sitting a few steps down from him. He'd pull an arm around to drag his tailtip with it and hug the squirming appendage to his chest along with his arms, and he looked about ready to pop by all due account: saved by a stalwart knight on the General's orders.

He pops, alright, straight up; one big hop that has him wobbling for a second as he lands on his feet and in a regimental salute, which he's gotten not too bad at. It was the leftover momentum that was almost his undoing, immediately loosing all of the tension of the stand-at-attention when the knight turns to guide him to the requisite office. He doesn't fall over entirely - but he warbles on his side, catching a one-two skip that has him following quickly after, rubbing the back of his head with that same grin.

He's presented, clearing his throat after the knight who fetched him knocks and does the same, and then stands - in indecision - in the doorway, both ears perched at high tips and a shiver down their fur when the General comes into view. "Yes!" A strong introduction, but not much of one. He had forgotten the basics of a greeting in the wake of General Saturn's ... everything, and fell back on snapping to a salute with wide, eager eyes. His tail had already resumed its wagging. It smacks the doorway. "Sir! Nikolai von Mardt, Rune Knight Private, at your behest! ... Well... fudge, you know all that. Hhuhhhh... howd'ya'do?" His voice lilts up at the end, awkward. Wagwagwag.
