”This kinda leaves a bad taste on my mouth, not gonna lie.” Kenzo commented as he kicked a piece of burnt wood from his path, uncovering a set of half-burnt, half-torn pieces of parchment. The aftermath of battle was a sight the man was more than accustomed to, but for some reason he just couldn’t quite enjoy it like usual.

After all, the fight this time could hardly be called a fight. Had this been a war between nations, any knowledgeable party would have called this nothing short of a slaughter. Kenzo and the Fiore Royal Navy had sprung an ambush on the unsuspecting pirate crew of one of the Eight Warlords of the Sea. The crew of the man called The Rat was not known particularly for their strength, but rather the cunning and cowardly nature of their tactics. Seeing the aftermath, karma caught up to them at last.

Alas, the truth of the matter was that it made little difference for the warrior. While he was left itching for a good fight, the success of their ambush meant there were minimal casualties on their side. In the end, he’d kept his end of the bargain, for which he’d surely be handsomely rewarded. As a member of Blue Pegasus, this was what was expected of him, so there was little he could complain about.

Regardless, Kenzo decided to leave the beachfront for a moment in order to explore further into the caverns where the Rat’s flagship had been found. Call it a way to satiate his unfulfilled hunger for adrenaline, the man asked the captain to call for him whenever they were ready to depart.

”You seem sad” Merry mentioned with perked ears as he finally joined his partner. The little machia’s voice startled the merc as he walked.

”Heh, I guess I’m just disappointed.” Kenzo answered with a sigh, looking towards the tiny cat as it made its way through the rubble. Climbing around broken pieces of wood, undetonated cannon balls and other traces of the fierce battle.

”So much for a so-called warlord of the sea huh?” Kenzo added with a shrug of his shoulders, chuckling as to let off some of the frustration building up on him. ”Ku ku, you’re a weird guy, you know Kenzo?” Merry replied, chuckling with the annoying little laugh he liked to use when teasing others. ”I don’t really get why you like fighting so much” The cat turned to face Kenzo as he shrugged his own shoulders, mimicking the warrior’s actions.

”If I were you, I’d simply stay at the guild and order a million of those grilled fish they sell at the restaurant. Why would you do anything else?”

The exceed noted with a smug look on his face, his words were laced with a trace of pitty as if what he spoke of was simply common sense. Kenzo on the other hand, simply chuckled at the condescending words of his little pal, bursting out into loud, amused laughter. ”Haha, I guess you’re right man. We really should go get some of that fish as soon as we get back to the guild huh?”

”Still, it’s still a struggle not having someone to go all-out sometimes you know.” Kenzo replied, lightly taping Merry’s shoulder with the side of his own boot, nudging him to the side as they walked together.

”Pft. I guess there’s really nothing but fish up on your head sometimes” Merry sighed.

”Talk about yourself.” Kenzo snarked back at the little cat’s comment, chuckling at how all of Merry’s metaphors today seemed to be about fish.

As they finally made their way to the inside of the cavern, Kenzo channeled the power of his right eye; flaring up his vision and completely getting an entire look at his surroundings, the blue haired swordsman immediately froze. Putting an arm in front of Merry to prevent him from taking another step, Kenzo placed a finger in front of his pursed lips with a serious look, urging him to stay silent. After all, the two Blue Pegasi were not alone now.

Springing up in an instant, the blue-haired Bellan pushed Merry away just in time as a fierce beam of light flashed past them. The little cat purred in pain as the magic spell charred the ends of his tail, barely avoiding any further damage.

”Take cover! The enemy is using an invisibility spell.” Kenzo urged his partner as he pointed to a set of crates at the corner.

With Merry quickly scrambling out of harm’s way, Kenzo finally concentrated on the hidden enemy for once. The attacker was completely concealed by their invisibility spell, a high ranking one for sure. However, it was unfortunate for them that such tricks wouldn’t work against the merc. The blue flame in his eye flared with a lively dance, allowing him to see everything unobstructed in a 25-meter radius, even if they were concealed by an invisibility spell.

Summoning the large golden blade stored within his pocket dimension, Kenzo leapt in the air, dodging yet again another beam of light aiming his way. Smirking as he glided away from danger, the man prepared to charge and lunge towards the attacker’s direction. However, the spell that had seemingly failed to meet its target suddenly separated into 10, curling and twisting in the air as it turned around and back towards the airborne warrior.

Twisting his body with difficulty, Kenzo managed to avoid 5 of them, slashing 3 more before being hit by the remaining 2. Taking the hits to his left arm and side of his chest, the blue-haired warrior gritted his teeth as he felt the sting of seared flesh. It had been a long time since he’d last fought a light mage, so he felt a little bit rusty.

Regardless, it seemed that his agility had surprised his enemy. The second the male landed on the ground he immediately bolted through the shortest path possible, even if that meant cutting a large hole at the side of the ship resting on the middle of the cave. With a slash of Masamune, Kenzo made way for his blitzing body, crossing the entire length of the ship unhindered and placing himself within arms’ reach of the enemy.

”You bastard, you won’t get away-“

The words of the attacker were suddenly cut short as the clean sound of flesh against steel filled the air. Kenzo tore through his enemy’s side, lunging past him and sheathing his sword in a swift, singular motion.

”Consider yourself lucky. I’ve still have much to pry out of you.” The Bellan warrior announced as a stream of blood flew out of the gashing wound he’d just caused. The enemy mage tumbled to the ground as his screams echoed through the large cavern where the battle had just ended. Kenzo had purposefully left the man alive, there was still much info he had to learn about the warlords of the sea.

Grabbing him roughly by the shoulder, Kenzo raised the weakened body of the enemy before placing him over his shoulder.

”Let’s go Merry, we’ve got to deliver this scum to the colonel.” The man flashed a smirk at his companion, before the two guildmates left towards the beach.
