The Voda River stretched endlessly before them, a shimmering ribbon of water that seemed to defy comprehension. Its expanse was so vast that even the most vivid imagination could not fully grasp its scope. The river’s width was impossible to estimate, its far shore shrouded in mist and mystery, while its currents whispered secrets of distant lands. It felt almost otherworldly, a byword of the fantastical in a world already teeming with magic. Yet here they stood, Tōga and Strigr, mere specks against the grandeur of the landscape, both awed and intimidated by the journey ahead.

The river was flanked by rugged mountains and dense forests, their shadows casting a patchwork of light and darkness across the travelers. The air was cool, carrying the faint scent of wet stone and wild greenery, mingling with the rhythmic murmurs of water flowing over unseen rocks. Tōga inhaled deeply, his gaze sweeping over the scene before turning back to Strigr, who lagged several paces behind.

Strigr-chan! We need to keep moving if we’re going to find shelter before nightfall,” Tōga called out, his voice carrying a note of encouragement despite the urgency in his tone. He pressed forward, his boots crunching against uneven ground as he navigated the rocky trail with practiced ease.

Otō-sama! You always do this to me,” Strigr whined, her breath hitching slightly as she hurried to keep up. Her shorter legs struggled to match his long, energetic strides, and she skidded occasionally on the jagged terrain. She moved carefully, her golden-blonde hair catching the light as she avoided the slippery edges of the path that led precariously close to the rushing waters.

Tōga glanced back, a flicker of amusement crossing his features as he slowed his pace just enough to allow her to catch up. His vibrant pink hair, tousled by the cool breeze, was a stark contrast to the muted hues of their surroundings. Both travelers were clad in thick cloaks, their figures obscured by the heavy fabric that shielded them from the elements. The only splashes of color were their hair—the pink of his and the sunlit gold of hers—visible as they moved through the gray-green expanse of the countryside.

Strigr sighed, her steps steadying as she fell into rhythm behind her master. Her loyalty to the Rune Knight was unshakable, and while her heart didn’t yearn for the same thrill of adventure that drove Tōga, she followed without question. Whatever made him happy, she would endure—even if it meant trekking across landscapes she would otherwise avoid. Still, as a dragon born of water, she couldn’t help but admire the Voda River. At times, it seemed less like a river and more like an ocean, its waves reflecting the sky in shades of blue and silver. The sight filled her with a quiet awe, a feeling of connection to the vast, untamed force beside them.

You know,” she began, her tone soft but tinged with exasperation, “you could slow down just a little. Not all of us are as... eager as you to race across a wilderness we’ve never seen before.

Tōga grinned, his pace easing as he turned to look at her. “If we slow down, we’ll miss all the excitement! Besides, Strigr-chan, adventure waits for no one.” She rolled her eyes but couldn’t suppress a small smile as she trudged forward, the sight of the river beside them reminding her of the beauty hidden in the chaos of their travels.

The Voda River was a beautiful scenery within the cold land of Pergrande. It was a place that held a close place in her heart. Certainly, it was where she had once build the Dragon Order's keep, but in recent days it had become quieter. Drakkon had moved the order elsewhere and the people of Voda River were living quietly in peace. Although it was also within this peaceful scenery one would find something more mysterious hidden.

Indeed, in a cave near the river one could find an enigmatic portal swirling in and out of existence. But as Toga and Strigr were wandering around the Voda river their presence was not left unnoticed. The river stirred quietly in their presence.

Indeed~ Adventure waits for nobody, and your presence here seems to stir some excitement as well~"

A feminine voice called out from nearby when the river's surface started to stir and become disturbed. A sudden surge of water burst upwards as the massive sea dragon emerged from amist the river. Circling her massive body in the air akin to a serpent she moved around Toga till she was right in front of him. The Leviathan's gaze lingered on the lad and his companion. "What brings you to my land Toga? And to think you would even invite your girlfriend along as well."

A playful jest at the maiden in his company, the Leviathan waited to hear Toga's response and reason for his presence here. Not that she minded it, at the very least she found there to be both entertainment and excitement in his presence. But for now she waited to see what type of surprises Toga had brought along.

"Stop."

The word was sharp, low, and commanding, accompanied by the swift motion of Tōga’s arm shooting out from beneath his cloak. The gesture halted Strigr in her tracks, his arm acting as an impromptu barrier. Her golden eyes darted to him, startled by the sudden movement, but Tōga’s focus was already elsewhere. His sharp brown eyes scanned the dense forestry surrounding them, his senses heightened. He sniffed the air, tilting his head as he listened, searching for something—anything—that might explain the eerie stillness that had settled over their surroundings.

The world around them seemed unnaturally quiet, the rustle of leaves and the hum of life muted, as though the forest itself was holding its breath.

Then, it happened.

The water’s surface, once smooth and fluid as it ran with the river’s natural current, began to ripple unnaturally. At first, it was a faint disturbance—a subtle distortion—but it grew quickly. The ripple expanded into violent waves, the disturbance spreading outward like a shockwave. From the center of this chaos, the water seemed to split apart, an enormous force carving through it like a knife through fabric.

Tōga’s breath caught as something immense broke through the surface, soaring upward with terrifying speed. The creature’s form, a brilliant blue that mirrored the river itself, rocketed toward the heavens, its body still rising as though it had no end. Its scales glistened in the light, an organic, scaly chain pulling itself free of the river’s depths. The sheer size of the creature made the surrounding forest seem minuscule, its presence utterly commanding.

Whoa!” Tōga shouted, his voice tinged with both excitement and caution. His hand instinctively moved to the hilt of Zangetsu, the massive blade strapped to his back. He stepped in front of Strigr, his free arm brushing her aside protectively as he prepared to face whatever threat had emerged. But then, his eyes adjusted to the creature’s form, his grip on his weapon slackening as his brown eyes widened in awe. “Whoa…” he said again, though this time his tone was softer, almost reverent. The excitement in his voice gave way to quiet wonder as the truth of what he was seeing dawned on him.

It was a dragon.

Its serpentine body coiled gracefully in the air, wrapping around them in a display of power and majesty. The creature’s long, elegant frame radiated an aura of ancient strength, its shimmering scales reflecting the light like liquid gemstones. When its face finally lowered to meet theirs, Tōga found himself staring into draconic eyes that seemed to pierce straight through him. There was an intelligence there, a wisdom that transcended the centuries.

For a moment, he was silent. Words escaped him as he stood frozen, caught between awe and disbelief. The dragon’s voice rumbled forth, deep and resonant, filling the air around them like the roll of distant thunder. Strigr, however, seemed less enraptured. While her eyes widened briefly at the sight of the massive sea dragon, her surprise quickly gave way to irritation as the creature’s words registered. The blonde dragoness huffed, crossing her arms as a flush of exasperation colored her cheeks.

He’s not my boyfriend!” she shouted indignantly, her voice carrying over the steady roar of the river. “He’s like my dad!

Her boldness, while genuine, seemed almost comical given the size disparity between her and the towering dragon. Tōga blinked, finally snapping out of his stupor as Strigr’s declaration echoed in the stillness. He glanced at her, his lips quirking into a lopsided grin despite the gravity of the moment.

We’re just traveling the world, trying to find new adventures…. And it seems we stumbled upon one here! An actual dragon!?
