Goji
Goji’s boots crunched over the leaf showered ground as he stepped into the vast expanse of Worth Woodsea. A fair wind howled through the towering trees, a reminder that this forest was as wild as it was intriguing. The scent of vegetation filled the air, mingling with the earthy notes of damp soil beneath his feet. He had been through forests like this before, but this one had a reputation. The magical beasts, the ancient ruins hidden beneath layers of overgrowth, and the dangers that waited in every dark corner. He had little doubt that this mission wouldn’t be without its challenges.

He wasn’t here for sightseeing though. The villages scattered across the Woodsea had long been at odds, with supply and demand shifting their alliances and enemies. Now, for the first time in years, two of these villages were attempting to form a truce. Hell, an alliance even and they needed a mediator. Goji didn’t fit the role of diplomat, but he was well versed in dealing with tension and hostility. That was his part to play, ensuring that things didn’t fall apart before the ink on the deal was even dry.

As he settled against a tree waiting for a certain someone to make their appearance. Goji’s gaze flickered to the path ahead. Altuo was supposed to meet him here, and if there was anyone who could talk their way through this situation, it was devil himself. Goji’s role however was simple: stand tall, keep watch, and make sure things didn’t get too out of hand.

The rhythmic shuffling of foliage announced Altuo’s arrival soon enough, his steps measured and deliberate as he wove through the towering trees of Worth Woodsea. The forest’s famed wildness didn’t bother him, if anything it invigorated him. His gaze flicked over the path ahead, observant and admiring, though his expression retained its usual sprightly veneer.

As the meeting point came into view, his attentions landed on Goji, standing like a sentinel against the base of a massive tree. A faint grimace spreading from cheek to cheek. One a little more thought provoked compared to the daemon's usual demeanor. "Good, you’re here. I trust you’ve taken in the charms of the Woodsea while you waited."

His steps didn’t falter as Altuo drew closer, hands idly adjusting the hems of his finely crafted attire as he did. "The villages ahead are likely as tangled in their disputes as this forest is in vines. Fragile alliances ready to snap as easily as twigs, but with the right guidance even the stubborn can be persuaded."

Pausing beside Goji, the two turned to face the faint trail winding ahead. "You’ll keep watch, of course, while I handle the talking. But if we’re lucky I’ll only need your strength as a presence and not a demonstration." His tone was tinged with the faintest touch of humor though his focus was clearly aligned on the task ahead. "Shall we then?"

Goji
Perking up from his resting place as Altuo’s reveal came sooner rather than later. The brushing of bushes gave the elf away long before their voice did. As they emerged from between the greenery that surrounded from all angles, Goji couldn't help but scoff at the question. "Charms of the Woodsea eh?" His tone low was edged with a grizzled sarcasm as Goji repeated back the words. "Yeah, real charming. All it’s missing is a pack of beasts trying to rip our throats out."

As Altuo got straight to the point of their trek, Goji pushed off the tree with a firm kick. His boots sinking slightly into the soft forest floor as he started forward. "Shaky alliances and fragile egos. Sounds like a great time." With a roll of both his eyes and his shoulders Goji prepared himself for the questionably long day ahead. "I’ll do my part. Just don’t expect me to hold back if anyone decides to do something stupid." The walk to the village was uneventful though the merc's eyes were constantly scanning their surroundings. His appearance alone seemed to shift the atmosphere as they arrived. A few villagers that had been lingering along the edge of the settlement scattering when they caught sight of him.

Once there, the duo wasted no effort setting to the task. Goji’s no nonsense nature getting the right people into the right rooms with a swiftness. His sheer stature and demeanor shutting down those who seemed ready to argue but were too cowardly to follow through. After rounding them up he would leave his friend to work their usual charms. Coaxing key figures into conversation while Goji stood back, arms crossed, his surveying glance fixed on every face in the room.

"Let’s move this along." Was growled under his breath at even the slightest hint of heated debate starting to spark. His voice though not loud when he did speak up, battered through any rising arguments like a ram. The room settling each and every time under his demanding interjections. Compared to the other methods he had at his disposal to keep things civil, his stern words were a blessing that was maintaining the peace best they could.

Sauntering into the village with the fluid grace of one accustomed to drawing attention without force. Where Goji’s presence unsettled the villagers, Altuo’s was a balm. Pleasant and subtly magnetic in its whimsy and warmth. Half-open amber eyes took in every detail of the settlement. The wary glances, the whispered conversations, and the fractured spirit that clung to the place like a storm waiting to roll in at any second. Doing a once-over of his state, he made sure to smooth out any imperfections before proceeding. His usual collected calm betraying none of the calculations forming within.

Inside the modest meeting hall, the room was already buzzing with banter of varying degrees. Prompting the scholarly diplomat to waste no further time than what had already ticked by. With a practiced smile and a voice that carried both guidance and greeting, he put his best foot forward. "Ladies and Gentlemen," Even in the face of uncertain diversity, the elf's voice rang out sweet and smooth with just the slightest undertone of authority. A means to an end as far as getting people comfortable with what was about to follow. "We all know why we’re gathered here today. This alliance is not merely an opportunity, it’s about mutual support and survival. But such stabilities require trust, and trust must be earned, not given."

While Goji’s blunt nature cleared the way through the proceedings, Altuo’s elegance filled the void. He listened with a patience that bordered on preternatural. Considering thoughtfully as grievances were aired and offering empathies when tempers began to flare. Only intervening with a quip or pointed observation as needed. The likes of which drew reluctant agreement across the table on more than a few occasions. In this give and take of promises, words were threads weaving disparate viewpoints into something resembling a cohesive whole.

By the time the sun began its descent progress had been made to some encouraging extent. The humble beginnings of agreements being sketched out, hard-pressed concessions being offered, and fragile common ground established. Ever the perfectionist however, he didn’t allow himself to bask in the glory of accomplishment just yet. No, he knew this was only the start towards a longer campaign. "Today is a step forward." Rising to his feet as the meeting concluded. His voice carried a mix of both promise and caution in near equal measures. "But steps forward can just as easily become steps back without the proper dedication. We’ll return at a later date to review things as you all make pace and ensure these discussions bear fruit. Not just empty words but fully fledged actions."

And with that, the group dispersed. Altuo turning to Goji with a notable aura of gratification radiating from their person. "Not a bad start. However, you and I both know agreements on paper may not always hold up against the wounds of old grudges. I'm sure there will be trouble brewing from this as much as there will be progress. It'll be up to us to keep them honest as we can." As they took their leave from the village, Altuo’s mind was already formulating the next course of action. Their help was far from over, of that he was certain. For now though they would let the people take the first hard steps together.
