Odin †

It had been some time since Odin had visited his stall in the famous Astera marketplace. So many years had passed since he watched the child that would become his heir first approach him. Back then, his life had been so simple. He had been the Lich, the harbinger of evil in the world. None within the West had dared opposed him, and those that had paid the price every time. But now Odin found himself, silver hair and fleshy skin, walking towards his stall once more. He had left Mac in charge, the only person he could ever trust with such a task. The man who had maintained Swineherd in Odin's absence; the man who had built the Baska location in the train station. The only man in the world that the former Lich trusted more than his guildmates.

No one in Astera would dare attack the stall, not those who knew who it belonged to anyway. All that mattered was the appearance of power, something Odin not possessed even without his skeletal form. And, today, all he wanted was a nice drink from his good friend Mac.

Sho

Sho found himself wandering the streets of Astera. He was in need of some new armor as he was giving way to wear and tear. He sold it to a local blacksmith for a good grip of change. The man liked the material that the armor was made out of and gave a hefty price. Sho now had some spending money on top of what he already had. He had been saving quite a bit of scrape from his adventures and living off the land. He was enjoying his time out in the wilderness with his companion Slim Jim. But for safety reasons, he leaves his wyvern on the outskirts of town. No need to scare the innocent people of the land with a beast. Even if the beast was a giant softy and never hurt anyone or anything unless it was food. Sho walked through the streets of Astera looking for a store to buy gear in. It wasn’t too long before he stumbled upon a stall that looked like they were serving beverages. So Sho of course found himself walking up to the stall. The man stood there cleaning glasses like a bartender, while another silver-haired man was already present.

“Mind if I join you?”

Odin †

The request Odin received from the stranger was odd. Not because there was anything strange in the request, rather it was odd because it was just as it seemed. An innocent request to share a drink with a stranger. The Eudaemon knew this period of anonymity would not last very long, but he was going to enjoy it as much as he could while he had it. He turned to face the man, extending a hand by way of greeting. It wasn't a face he recognised, which even further suggested there was no hidden malice. Only one way to find out though.

"Of course, take a seat." Odin would nod to the bartender Mac, who would bring out a bottle of very expensive red wine. One of the Wizard Lord's favourites in fact, and something he loved even more now that he could truly taste it. Two glasses accompanied the bottle, with Mac already pouring one for his master. Of course, it was possible his new friend would not enjoy the taste, but if Odin was going to entertain someone, he wanted to do it properly. People would say horrible things about Odin, but they would never call him a poor host.

Sho

The man replied kindly, there was a certain air about him, one filled with a menacing undertone. Sho didn’t mind it though most people he hung around with gave off the same menacing feeling. This only meant that they were strong and somewhat well-traveled. “Thank you,” Sho said while plopping down in his seat. Before he could order the bartender brought out some wine and two glasses. It only took nothing but a second to actually pour. Sho grabbed his glass, “Oh for me you shouldn’t have!” he said while taking a sip.

“Mmm, this is good, has a certain taste about it. Way more high classed than what I am used to. But Thank you all the same.” Sho wouldn’t know it but he was sitting next to the guild master of Eternal Nightmare, a well-known guild around these parts. Has a lot of the nefarious types in it. But Sho wasn’t one to judge right off the back. Not to mention he didn’t have to look over his shoulder all the time now that he was no longer a Rune Knight. So as long as no evil deed was done in front of him he wouldn’t act on anything just yet. Sure he was in a bounty hunters guild but Sho was an easy-going guy. He could get along with just about anyone. Even those on the other side of the law.

Sho took another sip before placing the glass down, “Where are my manners, you offering me wine and I haven’t even given you my name. It’s Sho Shimura.”

Odin †

It could be completely assumed that Odin requested that fancy wine as a way to show off the man that he was. It was true that he loved the spectacle of life, and flaunting his wealth is definitely something he'd be tempted to do. But he was a nobody, talking to a nobody. What would be the point in trying to impress someone who's name, Sho Shimura, didn't so much as ring a bell. Perhaps he'd become a big name in the future, and once again Odin found himself serving drinks to one who would influence the world as he had done before to the former guildmasters. Although there was no way, and realistically no point, in trying to guess whether Sho would become a big name in the future. Odin just enjoyed the speculation. After all, it had worked so beautifully with Khalfani.

"I'm glad you enjoy it, it was a personal favourite of mine for many years while I was a Lich. You don't get to taste things properly when you don't have a tongue, but these days it's so much more enjoyable." Odin would raise his glass before taking a sip, that well known, almost salute that drinkers did to each other.

"My name is Odin Morningstar, welcome to the Swineherd stall."

Sho

Sho was in the middle of sipping his wine when Odin made a comment about previously being a lich. Something that clicked in Sho’s head instantly as he seemingly choked on his wine.’No way it can’t be him can it?’ he thought recovering, coughing a bit then it came quickly. A right hook to the ears a name that rang in Sho’s ears for a moment. He sat the wine down and began to smile, even though his heart just sank into the pit of his stomach. “Your Odin Morningstar? Of all places to run into someone guess I run into someone famous. Someone high on the Rune Knight hit list. Alas I am no longer a knight so I will just enjoy your company for the moment.” Even though Sho showed extreme maturity. He was freaking out inside, he knew he had to play it cool even though the man who was the leader of Eternal Nightmare sat right in front of him. “I appreciate you welcoming me to this stall, guessing you own it?”

Odin †

Odin had to admit, there was something incredibly satisfying in seeing someone literally choke at the revelation of who he was. He had never had that kind of an impact before, and it felt so damn good. He had completely changed everything Sho thought about their meeting. It had gone from a friendly interaction between strangers to something so much more. Interestingly enough, the man decided to mention that he had once been a Rune Knight himself. And, while Odin was definitely a threat to the crown, he wasn't even the highest bounty in his own guild. That honour currently belonged to Caius, but Erebus was never far behind in making a name for himself. This position suited Odin much better: ruling above the powerhouses that he called his guild mates. Although, that's not to say he wasn't a threat himself.

At the follow up question, Odin raised his hands by way of surrender before gesturing at Mac, who had gone back to cleaning some glasses. [color:a63b=#3das368]"While anything in the Swineherd name is technically mine, I would never dream of taking away credit from Mac over there." A scoff from the man, who threw Odin and devilish grin before returning to his work. Despite not being much of a fighter himself, Mac was still one of the men Odin counted among his closest allies. Outside of Caius, he had known Mac the longest, they were stuck with each other now.

Circling back to a previous statement, Odin saw an opportunity to ask "So what made you decide to leave the Rune Knights, Sho?" The Wizard Lord would chuckle for a moment before adding, "I know they don't like me much over there, but I'm not aiming to make you uncomfortable by being a former knight. Just curious as to why you'd want to leave."

Sho

Sho nodded at Odin’s response it must be nice to have a homegrown brand. Sho always wanted to get into the brewing business since he had a fancy for booze. Sho smiled at Mac who scoffed at Odin, he took another sip of the fine wine. Then a question came that Sho was prepared for. He was used to being asked this question a lot. People were curious as to why one would leave the Rune Knights. It was simple really, their thoughts and ideas didn’t align with Sho’s moral compass. “I am not uncomfortable no need to worry, that's a simple answer really.” Sho took another sip of his wine before answering.

“Well, it's simple really I haven’t really been feeling the Rune Knights. The way they handle things is something left to be desired. Seem like they would only act until it benefited them. When it came to helping people alot of the time it was me just going out of my way. I feel like I could do so much more outside of the knights. Not to mention my Captain gave me a offer I couldn’t refuse, so leaving was made fairly easy at the end of the day. Will I go back? Possibly if things don’t work out with the current plan. But hopefully we won’t have to resort to that.”

Sho finished off his wine and set the glass down. Mac poured another glass with a big grin on his face. Sho let out a sigh, “I am still trying to find my place in this world know what I mean?”

Odin †

Luckily for Odin, it seemed like Sho was prepared for the question posed to him. He seemed to have prepared the answer already, which made it so much easier to understand where the man was coming from. It was easier to fake a lie, the truth was much harder to hide if you replied so quickly, and with so much fervour.

"I've met so many like you, Sho. I know it might not seem like it, I am a known awful person etcetera etcetera, but most of my friends and guildmates are people like you. People that have, for lack of a better phrase, given up with the Knights. They don't do enough to change the world for the better, and that's what I'm wanting to change."

The mention of his 'Captain' intrigued Odin, but he tried to ignore it and move beyond. Maybe there was something here, "That's why I made my guild. I formed a group of people interested in changing the world. The world has been stagnant, and stagnation has not been good for Fiore. I want to change that." And then came the point, "Any interest in helping me?"

Sho

Sho nodded at what Odin had to say. There was no harm in entertaining the man who offered him free booze. It would take more than a bottle to get him buzzed though. He had built up a resistance to booze thanks to all the drinking he has been doing. Sho waited for Odin to finish before replying, “Don’t get me wrong some knights do alot of good for the country of fiore its not like they are completely sitting on their hands. But majority of the knights are just sitting back and enjoying their cushy lives they have built up for themselves. Some deserve it and some don’t. I am not one to judge. I am glad you are wanting too change but just your reputation alone has me taken back a bit. Not that I judge you but it makes me wonder about what you can change.”

Sho sipped once more from the wine glass, while Odin continued on for a moment. “I agree things have been stagnant and that's not a good thing at all. But everyone has to be willing to change that. Not just us, and what do you mean help you? Elaborate please.”

Odin †

Odin was actually mildly surprised that Sho was willing to entertain him. Now that he had revealed his identity, many people would have fled in terror, or at the very least found some way to excuse themselves without being rude. But not Sho, he seemed interesting in pursuing this line of questioning, and Odin was all for it. And he agreed with a lot of the Eudaemon's thoughts. Some of the knights were good, following their own brand of justice which, amusingly, sometimes aligned with Eternal Nightmare's vision. Others followed their orders to the letter which, while annoying for the man, was commendable in its own way. But the ones who did nothing. They were the worst and, if Sho had seen a great deal of them during his tenure, Odin couldn't blame him for leaving.

"I couldn't agree more. I understand and respect the knights who wish to see me dead. At least they are trying, misguided though they are." When asked what he could achieve, Odin's face grew a wide grin, "Why, change the world of course. You forget it was through the efforts of a small group that Hildegard ascended the throne of Bosco. I was among that group. Although, people seem to think my guild is working for the 'destruction of humanity' or some other such nonsense. It's true our methods are sometimes extreme, but the change we will bring about is for the better. An end to the persecution non-humans are forced to face. A changing of the times, if you will."

"As to how you could help me, I'd ask you to join my group, but I imagine this Captain of yours wouldn't take too kindly to that, so I'll compromise. If you believe that Fiore is broken, that it deserves a chance to change, I ask only that you give me it. Give me that chance to flush out the toxin that plagues our country. If I am wrong, if the country is truly better the way it is, then by all means strike me down. But give me that chance."

Sho

Sho took a big swig of his drink, trying to chase a buzz as Odin spoke. His words hit home for Sho it was no surprise there. Had Sho been in a different situation Odin’s words would have easily swayed him to change sides. It must have been his charismatic nature or Sho’s reasonability or maybe a combination of the two. He sat there listening very carefully before coming up with a well-thought-out response. Odin wasn’t going to completely win over Sho due to prior obligations but he would at least entertain the man. What was the harm in entertaining someone’s thoughts especially if they were willing to share their booze. At that moment they became drinking buddies despite living on opposite ends of the coin.

“I hear you but your methods are a bit extreme, you have a couple of high-ranking bounties walking the halls of your guild. Not to mention the bounty on your head, sure I am not here to fight I am here to drink. I can’t speak for all of Fiore as far as giving you a chance. That’s not up to me, you seem like you have the strength to make your dream a reality but it's still a ways off. I am not ignorant of how anyone who isn’t human is treated, I am friends with a few nonhumans. For joining you, I appreciate the gesture I really do but I have obligations to the group I am rolling with now. They most likely wouldn’t approve of me speaking with you but I am my own man. Best to get to know your enemy than to just dispatch them. You are the first of many I hope to sit down and have a chat with me not at the end of a sword but at the bottom of a glass. I will give you that chance but the moment you step out of line I will be there.”

Sho smiled as he finished the rest of his wine, he was confident in his abilities, maybe he was a bit drunk and it was hallow confidence but he wasn’t afraid of Odin. He had no reason to be at this moment. If he wanted Sho dead he wouldn't have made it this far. Sho looked up at Mac who poured another glass for him to drink on.

Odin †

As much as he was disappointed by the rejection, Odin appreciated the detail Sho gave him. He was glad that even the good-leaning guys, from Jove in the Rune Knights to Sho with his mysterious captain. Even those who were sworn to take Odin down weren't going to do it blindly. Despite landing on opposite sides, the Eudaemon had to admit to a level of respect to his foes. And even if Sho wasn't going to join with him, he admitted to wanting to meet with some other members of the guild, and perhaps they would be able to convince him of the things Odin couldn't. After all, not every member of the guild sat with a high bounty. The guild had formed from former Fairy Tail mages, and one of its most prevalent members once sat in Blue Pegasus. The guild wasn't an individual evil by any means.

However, Odin didn't want to outstay his welcome too much. He knew that he would likely see Sho again sometime soon, he just hoped it wouldn't be in a combat scenario, even if his better judgement told him it would be. "Take care of yourself, Sho. Mac", Odin shouted to the bartender who was now serving other customers that had arrived, all of them unaware of who the silver haired man truly was, "Give him a drink on me." Ignoring the scoff from his long time friend, Odin would depart down the streets of Astera, eager to see what else the city had to offer him.

Sho

Sho took a final swig of his drink, and Odin seemed disappointed by Sho’s rejection. But could he really expect any less? They were on opposite sides of the law and Sho had not a bad bone in his body. So a dark guild wouldn’t really suit him. Maybe they weren’t all bad in the guild but the reputation would defiantly put a wrench in Sho’s plans with Seika in taking down the ultimate evil. Odin seemed like he didn’t want to overstay his welcome with Sho so he pushed himself back from the bar seat and stood up.

He told Sho goodbye, “Don’t worry we will meet again. I just hope it's not on the battlefield.” Sho said while smiling. Too despite him smiling at Odin, there was definitely a seriousness hiding behind it. He knew Odin was one of the people at the top of the hit list for the guild. Sho just didn’t want to say anything to prompt any sort of combat in this crowded area. Odin did seem like a nice guy despite his reputation as a dark mage. A job was a job but Sho wasn’t going to endanger innocents over someone's bounty. As Odin disappeared into the crowd of people Sho turned back around to the last drink Mac was ordered to give. “Thanks, Mac.” Mac nodded and said nothing before going to the other guests. Sho shotgunned the glass for maximum buzz before leaving the booth.
