It was a new day, a new adventure for Xerxes to embark on. In the short time since he had arrived Orchidia, things had intriguing to say the least. Meeting new people, seeing new sights, all of it was nothing short of spectacular. He almost regretted the fact that within a few months, he would be leaving towards the west to behold the wonders of that area. He planned to cross all over Fiore, both to gain insight on the people and the varying cultures and to also gain a lay of the land he believed he was destined to rule. Deciding that today would be the perfect opportunity to see if he could purchase some new equipment, Xerxes heads out to the Orchidia markets. A few hours later, Xerxes walks down the market streets with a smile plastered on his face. He had just purchased a new helmet and body armor and was eyeing a new weapon to replace his trusty spear. Deciding to replace the spear another time, he happily made his way back to the guild’s headquarters.

Are you fucking serious?!” he hears a loud voice off into the distance. Off in the distance, Xerxes sees two men arguing in the middle of the street. One of them had his hands up in annoyance while the merchant, though obviously angry, was calmer. Curiously, the merchant was a fellow Desiertian. Given his age, he either arrived in Fiore at an early age or deserted the mercenary life and attempted to start anew here. His morbid curiosity piqued, Xerxes ventures over to investigate. “You really won’t sell it to me?” the clearly annoyed man states in a disbelieving tone. The merchant shakes his head and as the man walks off in irritation. As he walks past, he gives a subtle wave indicating to follow him. Confused, Xerxes looks back as the man once again motions for him to follow. Xerxes complies with his request, interested to see where this would lead.

The two walk a good distance away before the man suddenly stops. He turns to face Xerxes, quickly cursing the merchant’s name once more. “Son of a bitch. He’ll regret not doing this the easy way.” “Was there something in particular you needed?” Xerxes asks, still carrying the items he purchased. “I’ve seen you around town once or twice. You’re with Sleeping Calamity right?” Xerxes nods in approval as the man’s mood begins to change considerably. The man introduces himself as Ferdinand and begins to discuss a job offer for Xerxes, one that would involve retrieving the item the merchant refused to sell. He informs the Desiertian that the merchant he spoke with earlier in the day is expected to receive a very valuable item that someone Ferdinand knows is extremely interested in. Unfortunately, the merchant declined to sell it to him despite his many offers. Seeing no other option, he asked if Xerxes would meet up with the caravan and pretend to take it upon behalf of the merchant. “Seems simple enough. Luckily for you, I can use our shared lineage to your advantage.” “I will reward you handsomely for this.” Ferdinand says as he hands Xerxes a scrap of paper with notes scribbled on it. “This is the pathway the caravan will travel. If you hurry, you should be able to intercept it.” Xerxes places his items on the ground near Ferdinand’s right side. “Hold these for me. I’ll be back shortly.

A short time later, Xerxes found himself near the city gates of Orchidia, eagerly awaiting the caravan. To pass the time, he steadily sharpened his spear, which he retrieved from the Guild, with a whetstone. He did not think that he would have to use the weapon but had it just in case things went south. Xerxes could see a flickering light approach in the distance, a signal that the caravan was approaching. “Show time.” He says as he sharpens it once more before returning the whetstone to his pouch. Placing the spear upon his back, he goes to greet them. “The hell are you?” One of the members of the caravan says as Xerxes approaches. The group remains relaxed, but all have their hands either on their weapons or ready to cast a spell should the need arise. Xerxes puts his arms up to show that he means no harm and smiles. “I’m just here to retrieve an item from my employer.” “You’re with that merchant?” “Naturally. You don’t see many Desiertians around here, do you? We must stick together.” The group look at each other inquisitively before retrieving a bag from below. “We get paid either way, doesn’t matter.” One of them says as he hands Xerxes the item. With a friendly wave, they all depart their separate ways.

I can’t believe you managed to do it!” Ferdinand says as he marvels over the bag. He did not dare open it, likely either to ensure Xerxes did not see it’s contents or wanted to ensure that the item was in pristine condition once his acquaintance retrieved it. “It was easy. Like I mentioned before, our shared linage came in handy.” The man nods as he gently places the bag away as Xerxes retrieves his items. He could not wait to break in his new armor in. Ferdinand returns in front of Xerxes and places a small bag of jewels in front of him. “Here! For your hard work and your time. I also added a little something as a thank you. You’ve helped me out more than you know with this.” “Thank you.” Xerxes says as he picks up the bag of jewels and places them in his pouch. After exchanging goodbyes with Ferdinand and leaving the opportunity to business with him again open, Xerxes leaves to finally try out that armor.
