The things that Amir had to go through to increase the reputation for the guild. It was not just accepting odd jobs like this to build clientele. It was also dealing with a variety of issues that were maddening. Amir walked into the coffee shop with a blank look on his face. He was taking up a job to assist someone named Dex. It was a paltry mission that would take up more time than he would like.

The café set for the meeting was quant. It had a comfortable feel to it. Amir made a mental note to remember this place. If the coffee was any good he would not mind becoming a regular. He was in Orchidia enough anyway. He could use as much caffeine in his body as possible.

Looking around the shop Amir was able to spot Dex. The man was sitting alone in an inconspicuous corner of the shop. He looked like he was trying his hardest to blend in with his surroundings. A trait skill that was hampered by the fact that the patrons of the place gave him a wide berth of space.

Amir gave the man a greeting. Instead of responding Dex got up to check him out. Amir would feel weird about it but would ignore it. A quick inspection and Dex gave the greeting. He had checked Amir out to make sure the young mage was not an assassin and was the mage answering the quest. Amir felt several points were off about the reasoning Dex gave. If he was an assassin why would he try to kill Dex in broad daylight, among a few other points of reasoning he had.

Dex made sure to finish his coffee in a relaxed manner, when Dex was finally done he would give Amir approval and start to head out. Dex was giving him the details of the quest at hand. It was a murder investigation. Amir was finding it pretty interesting. He was surprised that Dex was a private investigator. The man seemed a bit too out of it to do such delicate work to him.

The first crime scene they came across was in a back alley. There were red stains on the ground but no sign of the body. Amir assumed the body was already picked up by the corner, and they had come to look for any clues. Dex started giving Amir a crash course in private investigation work. The clues from looking at bloodstain spatter and other cool stuff. Amir was thinking about how valuable the information was. He helped Dex and followed the splatter trail to a trash can. The red stains were from fruit jam. Amir was really thinking the man was crazy.

Amir did not say anything to the man. It was pretty clear after spending time that the man was bonkers. Amir would have left instead of continuing the madness but he found it interesting. Dealing with difficult personalities was not even a hassle for the scholar. It was easy for him to pretend to be a diligent detective's assistant.

Dex was pleased with how Amir was acting. He could not see through the deception and praised his work. Dex claimed that Amir helped make a breakthrough in the case. He gave Amir the promised money and headed off to do who knows what.
