Nuala wasn’t keen on fighting any more monsters to save any more fish, but what choice did she have. The thief was still in Port Astera, for no particular reason other than that she had been too tired to travel back to Oak the previous day. It was the wee morning hours right now and she had been resting at a local inn where she had rented a room for the night. Shadowmere was located somewhere else, on a meadow at the border of the town where the Dhuilin could roam freely. Nuala had thought about bringing her mare into town, but ended up not seeing any reason for it. The horse was better off away from the trouble of the city and since she wasn’t the type to just get up and run away, there wasn’t really any issue with it either. Nuala in the meantime could get some work done and pretty much do her own thing.

And that was the plan. The daemon didn’t think that she would stay for much longer, but there were certainly more jobs to be done and more jewels to be had in a town like this. Nuala knew that there was probably nothing else going on in Oak Town for the time being and of course while there was always the matter of the church grounds currently being haunted, the woman ahd grown tired of that same old job eventually and decided to travel. Now, This wasn’t exactly the best place to be for a woman like Nuala, who enjoyed the darkness and didn’t enjoy fish, but for the time being it didn’t really matter. She yawned and turned around on the mattress, to glance around the room. It was a nice inn, nothing too fancy and most importantly: not too close to the sea. The last thing she needed was to hear those damn birds screech and scream in the morning.

Aside from that, there was nothing special bout it. She had her own bedroom with her own bathroom and if she wanted breakfast, she could simply head downstairs and get some. There was always something to eat in the kitchen in places like this and even though Nuala wasn’t that hungry, she decided that she could probably use some breakfast since she hadn’t eaten anything last night. After coming home from the mission, the woman simply hadn’t felt like eating. Not to say that all the fighting and the gore and the smell of fish and travelling by boat had made her sick (she would never openly admit to that) but Nuala simply didn’t feel like eating - so she didn’t. Now was a different story however and she felt her stomach grumbling at the thought of some delicious toast with bacon and eggs. Because of this, she promptly got up and headed for the bathroom, where she got ready for the day.

Nuala didn’t really bring more than 1 spare set of clothes that all comfortably fit into her bag, but that was enough. She would depart back home to Oak after today, or perhaps she would even pay Baska Town a visit. Baska was also a good place for questing and earning some extra money, although perhaps not in the most traditional sense. Baska was obsessed with martial arts and fighting rings and all that and because of this, the town held a monthly tournament of people fighting each other in the ring on the great baska rock. The winner would naturally go home with a large sum of money and for everyone who could fight, this was actually a pretty good way to make some decent coin. Of course Nuala could fight and she had participated in that tournament before. She may not look the part, but she was decently strong and her strength enabled her to deal blows that hit harder than one might assume.

Now, lately she really hadn’t been in the mood for fighting, but it sounded significantly better than dealing with fish, not that she had a choice. Once the thief was dressed in her usual attire, she began heading downstairs and went to the little restaurant area, where she ordered the breakfast that she craved so much. Then, Nuala began eating and thought about her next steps. She really had nothing in particular in mind but Nuala figured that if she needed work, she could simply return to the quest board in town and she would prooobably find something there. It was always a pretty good call to make when you weren’t sure what kind of job u were looking for. That and you could also simply pick between how much money u wanted and how much effort u were willing to put into said job. Because of that, Nuala preferred being a free merchant rather than someone who was chained to a specific occupation.

While she was sitting in the restaurant, she really didn’t expect to meet anyone here. She had spent some time in Astera in the past, but it really didn’t matter. The people here knew her as a traveller and that was pretty much enough. With this town having a port that meant a lot of travellers were coming through to begin with, so no one here was batting an eye over a stranger at the table. However, Nuala’s daily routine that she had planned out for herself changed when there was an unexpected visitor coming it. It was a familiar face as well - one of the fishermen that she had met at the port yesterday. Together they had worked on fixing a problem that had paid her a good amount of money. Apaprently the town had struggled with fishing in the recent days and no one knew why. It wasn’t uncommon to have a bad day or two, but it was beginning to cause real problems.

The result to said problem though had been surprisingly easy. There was a cove about thirty minutes of a boat ride into the ocean. It was nearby where the fishermen preferred to fish usually and it was the place where they were usually able to make the most out of everything. However this time around something had been wrong and after checking out the place, Nuala had then realized and found out that the cove had found a few new inhabitants: a family of griffins, large ones, a mother with three babies, had moved there and were eating all of the fish. Those animals could really eat a lot so it did make sense that the majority of the fish had disappeared from that area. Still it proved a problem and by killing them and smoking out the cove, Nuala thought she had fixed it. Thought. The fisherman didn’t look happy.

He approached Nuala and they quickly exchanged a few words. Apparently the fish still hadn’t come back, so maybe there was still something wrong. I mean, clearly there was still something wrong or else the fish would have been back. Nuala understood his frustrations, but she had done her job. However, her tone changed when the man offered to pay her for her help again. He just really needed the fish to be back. Nuala agreed, paid for her breakfast and then headed out with the fisherman. Apparently some of the fish had returned, but not all of them. He wanted Nuala to check the cove again to see if there was perhaps something else going on that she could fix. Yesterday, he had agreed with her to smoke out the cove so that no one else or nothing else could get inside and to prevent rotting flesh from happening.

Maybe probably something had gone wrong that now needed fixing. Either that or another monster had shown up, one that caused more trouble for the fish and all that. Nuala was fine with that. She hopped onto the boat with the fisherman at the port and they went on their merry way. The cove was about a thirty minute ride away from the town and it was a beautiful day. The weather was good and Nuala figured that she would probably fix this and then go back home to Oak because she was already growing tired of fish. Either that or she would go back to Baska town to participate in the tournament. She would have to figure that one out later. Anyways, when they arrived at the cove, Nuala stepped off the boat and tasked the fisherman to wait for her. Then she entered the cove and took a careful look around.

She could quickly see what was wrong. Not everything had burned away, and some of the bodies were leaking into the river. That was most likely the reason as to why there were still no fish around. The burned flesh was one thing, but the fire had also burned nearby flora that was now leaking into the water and who knows what kind of reaction it caused - clearly it wasn’t good for the fish. So now what was left to do for Nuala was to pretty much clean up the cove to make sure no more of the plants were harmed and that her deeds weren’t interferring with the ecosystem. Once she did all that she headed back outside and explaiend her situation to the fisherman, who frowned but otherwise didn’t seem surprised. Nuala had pretty much cleared out the cove and made sure that nothing else had dropped into the water that could potentially scare the fish away or bother them. The ecosystem was very tender after all. Then she got paid and left.
