Knuckles Shi

Out towards the outskirts of the City Knuckles Shi landed with his Wyvern.  He was eager to find something to do and had a bit of an idea.  He'd head into town find himself two things, a bit of paint and a bit of wood. After gathering these two items he headed back to the outer area of the city and took a seat. The armored man painted on the simple message.  "Duel?"  Once he was done painting the sign, he fetched some items from his wyvern and put the sign together.   He'd then used his hammer to knock the sign into the ground as he found a good tree to lean on, and took a bit of a rest until someone took him up of his offer. He had never been to this wonderful city and was excited to see the type of mages they kept around here. He doubted he'd find one like him.

Kon

Like a second sun, Kon's prosthetic arm reflected the rays of the harsh mid-day light. The clouds were all but absent on this fine day with southerly winds drawing them towards the Sieghart Mountains and yonder. Today was meant to be an off day for the former rune knight but alas Konyo would not have that luxury. This change was pace was prompted by a haphazardly-made sign saying little else but "Duel?" of all things, never one to turn down a challenge, Kon consumed the remainder of his dumpling in a single bite before heading in the direction of the would-be fighter. Resting his hand on the handle of his new bow, the man weaved in and out through the crowded streets of Astera. The town was always busy with its citizens and new arrivals from other countries mingling, trading goods, and otherwise preparing for travel clogging up the streets with wares and trinkets.

Careful to avoid stepping on anything or anyone, Kon eventually made his way to whom he assumed had been the challenger, an interesting fellow with a respectable physique, leaning on a tree, a virtual carbon copy to the hundreds going further out into town. Outside of what he could glean with his golden eye in the closing distance between them, he couldn't see any other identifying markers, his allegiances were unknown nor any other significant abilities. Kon would be going into this blind and for that, he relished the opportunity. With a half-cocked grin, Kon steadily approached the man, failing to see any indication that he intended him any ill-will before they had even fought, he announced himself before finally greeting him after reaching audible distances, some fifty metres away. "Let it not be said that I will turn away when a duel is offered, I am Konstantin Sokolov, before we begin. I ask but one simple request, your name if you'd be so kind." Bellowing out with the ferociously of many men as he rested his free hand upon the string of his bow ready to land a blow upon his wouldbe opponent.

  • Power Scouter: When looking at a target, the user can see the amount of mana they posses and their exact distribution of attribute points. They cannot mention the number to others since it would make no sense to them, but the user can make perfect sense of the value they see.
  • Type Scouter: The user can see the type (Offensive, Defensive, Supplementary etc.) of a spell when looking at one, and also the elemental-type to which that spell belongs. The user can also see which type of mana a target possesses when looking at them (Fire, Water, Earth etc.).
  • Mana Seeker: The user can see mana with the Millennium Eye. Therefore, even if their vision is completely blurred or the target is invisible, they can still see the silhouettes of whoever that possesses mana. Depending on how much mana they possess, the silhouette appears brighter or dimmer.

  • The user can see perfectly clear up to 100 meters. This means that if someone is holding a note 60 meters away, the user can read it as long as the line of vision is not obstructed.
  • The user can see the trajectory of projectiles. The lines of projectiles (where they will land eventually) will appear as lines in their sight as they are moving. Should the user have enough time to react, they will always be able to determine where a projectile will land. This does not count for spells that can be moved around by the will of the user. Only static movements can be predicted where they will land. Imagine a baseball being thrown and you see a line in front of the baseball ending one meter next to your foot. Should you have enough time to react, you could still catch it cause you know where it will land. Or dodge it.

Knuckles Shi

Knuckles waited several minutes as he rested sternly on the tree until a man, no a woman with white hair appeared with a bow in hand.  She too wore armor, with his warrior knowledge it was a damn good set of it too. The craftsmanship of it alone took his focus off the woman's face and eyes.  His eyes shifted to her bow, something about it spoke the same volume as his Hammer. Something one of a kind and rare.  The more he took note of the woman as she spoke to him the more he noticed almost everything she owned had the feeling to it.  Yea this woman was well equipped from what he was seeing. As she finished speaking it took Knuckles a moment to understand what she had said. Her name, that was it. She wanted his name as well, of course, he would consent to give his own.
The red-haired male parted his lips bowing at the waist slightly. "The name is Knuckles Shi, The Clout Chaser.

As he said that, he motioned his right arm to his back gripping his hammer's handle, and pulled it to the front of his body.   "Konstantin Sokolov, shall we move this duel somewhere with fewer bystanders.  As much as I love an audience to help grow my name and spread the skills I have. I wouldn't like to cause undeeded harm to those nearby. Not too far just a little off the path, say 30 meters that way?" Knuckles lifted a hand up pointing across from them to a more open spot that had a litter of trees and small bushes.  It seemed like a good enough area for them to have their duel without having to worry about other people getting in the way, and still allowing those who would want to watch.

While waiting for the woman to answer, Knuckles reached behind his back again with his left hand grabbing his shield off his back and securing it to his left hand.  His gear might not have been as special or nice as the gear Konstantin Sokolov wore, but he was still proud of what he had because he had earned it just like every ounce of his reputation and skill.

Kon

From the briefest of discussions, Kon found his soon to be combatant to be a fairly civil man, apparently wanting to minimise potential collateral damage. He did, however, find his title to be somewhat self-denigrating, The Clout Chaser, why would someone choose to call themselves that? He would be a hypocrite for vocally objecting with his own being further from the truth which each passing day. Nonetheless he would still respect his opponent, especially with them presenting such a fearsome weapon before him, while not readily identifiable, the aura it seemed to project suggested it was equals to the many artefacts Kon had used in these last couple of months, from his most prized, now stolen Midas Gauntlet, renowned for turning anything to gold, his musashi’s sword lost to the ether and now this longbow with such craftsmanship not just rivalling his destroyed stormcaller but completely outstripping it.

Welcoming the decision to move further away from society allowing them to truly trade blow for blow without restrain, Kon accepted Knuckle’s offer and would follow after them, clutching his bow tightly with his left hand, favouring his right hand to draw. Approaching the opening, they would be met with a low flowing river to kon’s left while bushy shrubs dotted around the opening. “How lovely..” Kon muttered under his breath with a sincere smile leaving his face as he took in the surroundings. “How did you find such a beautiful clearing? I've been living in and around Astera for quite a few months now, I don’t think I would have ever found this place.” Idly commented as he tightened the various straps that secured the front of his armour with his free hand. Doing so, having taken Knuckles as a person that wouldn’t attack something without warning if they were standing in front of them and some fifteen metres from one another.

Their response would be indicative what his next steps would be, had he been met with the same courteous dialogue then he saw no reason to become hostile just yet, otherwise a shot would be sent towards Knuckle’s right knee. In either case, Kon gave Knuckles a somewhat overall prolonged wink shifting his amber left eye a vibrant glowing yellow, binding his attention onto the man. Unaccustomed to the strain caused by his new eye, Kon could feel a slight pinch and the smallest drop of blood leave his tear duct. Wincing in pain, he would continue on as if nothing happened, “So tell me about yourself, Knuckles…”

To answer the question on how Knuckles had found the clearing, Knuckles pointed up to the sky with his hammer. "You can see a lot from the back of a Wyvern, the entire countryside really.  Perhaps when we are done I can show you what I mean."   The man, no woman, whatever they were started to drip blood from their eye.  Knuckles' eyes looked at it for a moment and then disregarded it as much as Kon seemed to.  If they did not wish to act upon a bleeding eye then it was either a common enough thing that it did not bother them much or at all. That, or it was not that painful or serious. Either way as a way to keep face he acted as if Kon simply did even have that eye and focused his own set of visual input devices onto Kon's other eye.

It seemed they wished to know more about him, he had to be honest this was a bit to take in. How strange for someone to just want to know more about him before even seeing what he could do or his mount.  Perhaps they were looking for a moment to adjust and access the situation with their eye. Knuckles would look around their new surrounding and start to form an idea of how he would deal with the bow. Of course, he held his shield so perhaps he would do that, but it would only be a matter of time before the arrows would break the shield, and then what? He should pick a better option something that deepened on his speed and skill rather than a slab of iron metaled to a shield.

"There is not much to say honestly. I am nothing much, not even a mage. A simple man chasing a dream of sword and shields in a world of magic. Silly perhaps, but I was not gifted with magic.  The legend shall make itself in due time I am sure of it. "  

The red hair man smiled faintly as he nodded towards Kon. "And what of you? Someone of weather or skill? Perhaps a mixture of both?"

Choosing not to judge Knuckle’s character for treating such a creature as a beast of burden, Kon merely took in the surroundings nodding as he revealed a critical part of himself, almost without saying a word to question Knuckles, he revealed that he was but a humble man in this world of magic and fantasy. Kon could relate, at least in part, not natively having magic themself gaining it in his adulthood before recently losing it again. Nonetheless, People could most certainly overcome the disadvantage. In the hopes to gain some trust with the man, Kon grew a powerful, almost intimidating smile before announcing his own limitations.
“Of course, you may already know of my own reputation, I was once a magician capable of performing otherworldly deeds, but alas…” Clenching his golden hand into a fist. “My abilities were stolen from me, recovering them is questionable at best, but in the meantime, I welcome the chance to live without the curse that was placed upon me to do such feats.”

So far however he had revealed himself to be a mysterious man, Knuckles with his own intent being entirely obscured. Welcoming, even relishing a challenge, Kon announced himself to Knuckles. “While I’d like to say I find great beauty solely in the weather that would be a lie, instead I’ve been crawling so to speak across not just Astera, Fiore but also other regions for opponents who are willing to fight me in spite of our differences.” Easing the grip of his right hand, Kon finally began to action upon his soon-to-be opponent or more importantly at them. Rather than mocking Knuckles, Kon refrained from shrinking themself, instead, he would be relying upon the various golden relics that he held.

Easing the grip of his pointer and middle finger, Kon brought his hand towards the string of his bow, ready to draw a punishing blow. Not foolish enough to assume his opponent would remain stationary during his offensive repositioning, Kon truly began to move, dashing back as quickly as he could, instead choosing to launch a more global effect, launching a practically inescapable meteor strike for Knuckles, which by extension of their distance also impacting Kon’s own wellbeing. This was lacking the critical information that he might be able to close the gap just as easily as he were to run. Not foolish enough to rely upon one means to fight, Kon, if forced to fight hand to hand, he’d immediately release his right hand from the right and launch the golden hand in return.

Knuckles Shi

It was really a pity, he was not sure what was worse never having the power to cast magic by one's self or gaining the ability to do so and losing it or in Kon's case having it stolen. Knuckles could not picture the latter, how much that would hurt, and the annoyance of being stifled back into the existence of not having magic.  He found himself getting a proper feeling for the fighter before him as he listened intently to their words, though it seemed it was just some ploy or that's how Knuckles viewed it as Kon's actions went from one trying to get to know an individual to straight on the offensive.  Knuckles tracked the movement of their hand along the bowstring, at first hoping it was little more than a motion often done out of habit and not an attack but as the mana was fed into the bow and the spell became physical Knuckles would let out a sigh of annoyance as his shield lifted to cover his body tucking his head behind it as he did so.  The shield took 1 A rank of damage and had now become useless the rest of the attack bleeding off into his armor with a Single A tier of damage done to it.

Knuckles would not stand by idle though, feeding mana into his armor, he was able to reach his full speed instantly, Knuckles rushed out in a burst of speed traveling at 30 m/s quickly catching up to Kon and swung his hammer straight across with a double grip on his hammer. If the blow would land it would deal 3 sets of A rank damage, the target of the attack would be Kon's head.   "That was pretty underhanded. I thought we were having a friendly prefight chat!"

Foliage, shrubbery and the grassy flats were replaced with the distinct smouldering ashes left over from the unrestrained fireball. Lashes of tindering flames continued on as Knuckles rushed towards Kon who had not only taken with the fireball in his strides but prompted the meteor shot to impact the archer. Both fighters' equipment had become either slag or were approaching that state. Knuckles had fared the worst of the two, with them losing both his shield and helm in the blast with his armour melting apart, even his hammer seemed to be steaming from the intense heat that had been created. Due to the sheer size of the ball, Kon too had been impacted with his leather-bound cap bursting into flames turning almost into scraps while his armour, bow and accessories steamed in a similar way to Knuckle’s hammer.

All this was secondary however most importantly was the Hammer that was hurtling towards Kon’s cheek from his left side. His opponent, having drawn up close to him and the blow otherwise unavoidable in his position, Kon would return such a strike with one of his own thrusting out his golden fist in Knuckles’ now unprotected face and dealing what ought to be 2x S-Ranks worth of damage. Kon could feel the flat of the hammer land upon his face, with only the cap slightly padding the blow crumbling to pieces, overcoming what felt like a fractured cheekbone at a minimum or broken at the worst. After his powerful swing, Kon followed up with a face beginning to swell. “None of us were in a good position from the spell, so sure?” Blood oozing from his crush wound into his mouth, Kon spat out the crimson iron tasted liquid.

Knuckles Shi

His attack found its mark, but apparently, it was not some type of armor on their arm it was metal. He felt the heat from the fireball before burning into his skin as the punch itself left Knuckles beyond dazed.   In fact, Knuckles seemed to shift his body weight as the hammer's face touched the ground.  Knuckles lifted his left hand to his head, he suddenly felt so weak.  While he knew he was able to take some blow he had never felt a hit that hard or taken it to the head so direct.  Knuckles stumbled as it also felt that his mana had been struck from out his body.  Not that it had it just felt, strained all of a sudden.   "Pay attention boy!"   He heard the demon yell into his mind, snapping Knuckles back to the battlefield.  Leaping back 15 meters from his opponent, while allowing his daemon energy to break free from his hold. Obscura would leak out from his body as his eyes started to glow red, the Obscura eventually covered their arms and legs, and part of their chest and most of his back. Black wings would grow from this Demon energy too, giving him the option to fly now.

He needed to put some space between himself and the foe to try to catch his head and figure out what to do. His style would be to rush and use his speed and strength to offset his opponent, but when an opponent had range and could hit you one time and do more damage in a single punch than you ever felt in most battle, alarms and instincts told you to back the hell off if you wanted to survive.  He would have perhaps spoken something about how strong they were or how he never faces an opponent with some much strength before in his life, but his jaw was not reacting to how he wished it. As in, it was broken and just hanging limp there.  He was glad no one could really see him at this point.

Placing both hands around the hammer as he bent at the knees Lungeing away from any pursuit from his opponent, or attack that may have been sent his way.  This time his lunge was backward yet upwards as his body began to fly into the air turning around in a 180 as he did so.   His goal was to reach his max height of 15 meters and get his full speed out as fast as possible then circle back. He had to remember though that his opponent has a bow, and was likely going to take shots at him if they had not already.

Kon

The flamboyant Hammer wielder made a swift retreat after facing a powerful blow undoubtedly harming them irreparably. The fear was evident in the man’s eyes even from such a distance. Frankly Kon was shocked to see such a man retreat even when facing certain defeat using some form of demonic energy to take flight. His assumption of the man soon changed as he returned at a pace equivalent or greater then the rate he had left. Perhaps he believed that he would have the advantage in the air in spite of Kon’s clear range prowess illustrated by the mere possession of Rama's bow. As Knuckles performed his tactic retreat of sorts, Kon closed the distance overall between them while Knuckles progressed upwards a full 15 metres, he meanwhile adjusted himself to be 30 metres away from his opponent relative to his position to the ground at all times. As he strode towards drawing back his bow string as Knuckles turned to face him. And so as Kon’s armour continued to fizzle and melt, Kon readied an arrow that would strike down upon his target. While the man may have the air superiority, with the former mage having long lost any potential for flight, Kon still held aces up his sleeve.

First and Foremost came his new right eye said to be stolen from a wood elf, how that came to be, it was not his concerns instead he enjoyed the abilities provided through this “gift” To think Wood Elves had this level of clarity have been a shock to Kon when it was first implanted into him, even if it did prompt him to go blind briefly. The innate enhanced vision had not been the only thing that was aiding him with homing lingering up Knuckles. Failing to create a divide that would break this effect, Kon could lose his string while looking backwards and still hit his heavily injured opponent. But no as to not insult him, Kon instead released a volley of arrows, “traditional” arrows followed by a special arrow capable of piercing even the strongest of armors. They would all be aimed directly at his opponent's head, travelling at velocities capable of outstripping almost any mage. Even with Knuckles seemingly running circles around Kon, The smouldering adventurer would still be stuck albeit slower than most other men. His final shot would likely be overkill with his enemies turning to ash before him just as his shield and helm had done moments before. Even if he missed Knuckles directly in the head, a direct hit to his chest would surely be enough.

Such power, how? Knuckles wondered as he flew about. The man had basically slapped him upside the head and had Knuckles in full panic for his life. He had never felt this way before. Granted he had never seen an arm like that before and was unsure what it was. Perhaps it was something like his hammer and the weapon and other items Kon had on his person? Something divine or god crafted in some way or perhaps the slender man just had that much natural strength. Knuckles knew that even if he had lifted his hammer towards the sky and had called down the powers of Lightning to enhance his body as he often had, he would not even come close to that level of strength. If he lived he would have to ask Kon just what that thing was and where Knuckles could get one from himself.

Looking back towards the armored white haired man, Knuckles was able to see him moving at speeds like his own. It was impressive that not only did that man have access to such strength but also their speed was something to make them note-worthy as well. It seemed no matter how he moved the man on the ground kept pace and a set distance from Knuckles. It was now that he recalled the bow. Knuckles felt like a fool for forgetting such a majestic weapon so soon, and after it had been the first thing Kon had used against him. It had not even registered to Knuckles that the first attack from Kon was still having effects on his gear. Had he truly had been so shocked by such a display of power that he lost focus on everything? Had his fight or flight response activated and his body picked flight this time around?

Surely Knuckles held some better chance of winning or lasting longer in this duel if he had remained close ranged. It was too late to, he had made his choice already and this was what he was going to have to deal with. It drove him crazy to even think about how he had unknowingly placed himself in a situation where it had gone from bad, to worse.

The heat rose from his gear, he could feel it brush his face as he flew through the air. As he turned back to face Kon, he noted the bow pointed towards him, several arrows launched followed by a special arrow. Knuckles had built up some speed by now and thought perhaps he could simply dodge the incoming attacks. It seemed like a good plan, with his speed and seeing the attack launched from the bow it seemed all but doable. If only he had known what a fool he was being.

When the arrows got close enough Knuckles would swerve his body, moving his body off its current course by 1 meter allowing the arrows to zip by him. He heard the wind being sliced by the arrowheads as they zoomed past.

Foolishly Knuckles thought he had found himself catching his second wind and about to catch Kon with their pants down and come in with a skull-splitting swing to even the fight and hopefully start to tip it in his favor. Knuckles had no idea about the power that Kon had within his items and the magic he had. This entire time Kon has a spell on Knuckles, a spell that was called Lock-On. It allowed Kon's arrows and even spells that were projectile like to follow Knuckles. Something the Daemon should have assumed a person with a bow might have since Knuckles himself had a spell with the hammer that did just that.

He was an absolute idiot, there was nothing more to be said about the actions he had taken. He felt several strikes hit him in the back as he flew toward Kon, the arrows he had dodged turned around and followed Knuckles no matter how he would have moved. The armor cracked further and then broke apart, pieces following from the sky as each arrow found its mark.
Red liquid started to be absorbed by the white cloth shirt he wore. His demon gifted transformation broke apart as the red-haired man slammed into the ground.

The arrows had found themselves in his back and Knuckles found himself slamming into the ground a loud thud being heard in the surrounding area as his hammer fell to the ground. The Daemon coughed as blood filled his mouth. This was it, he had lost.

It was true, since the last time he had been defeated he had grown three times as strong. He had trained well and rose to new heights. He had also learned in that defeat that there was more to fighting mages than just being stronger or faster than them. Their magic was not even often enough what was the gap between him and them had been wedged. It was often the magic that was forged into the gear or items they held. While Knuckles had done his best to find and attain his own to level the playing field when you compared him side by side to the mages who cast magic and had these items he would often be outclassed.

This loss was not against a mage though, it had been against a person like him, perhaps not fully since this person had once had unlocked magic for themselves but currently they were limited as he was. His loss today had been all because he had been foolish. Stupidly he had remained in the impact zone of the attack from the start when he could have safely dodged it with his armor's magic. While he had taken Kon off guard by doing so and closed the gap between them and landed a hit, a nice clean hit he noted he did not effectively judge the power Kon had. Knuckles had assumed because the womanly man had used a bow that his strength would be lacking. Kon had been clever having that arm as a trump card. Knuckles had effectively misjudged Kon, which Kon obviously had planned for when he had added the arm to his set up. Knuckles had played into that hand all too well, and because of that assumption, he had taken a blow to the head that had left him so instinctively terrified that he had flown off opened up the range for Kon to effectively cast magic from his bow, or fired arrows at him with ease.

He should have known upon meeting Kon when he did a look over and saw all the otherworldly items he behad. A literal fortune of items had been worn by Kon and Knuckles with his third rate shield and lack of a full proper set of gear though he had what it took or even a chance to win this duel. Knuckles was lucky that this was not a fight for his life. He was even luckier that he had not done or said something that might have made Kon a future enemy. Though perhaps this could be a start to something new, and even if not it was the dawn of Knuckles pledging himself to start using his head in his fights and not be bullheaded as he had been in this match. Losing was the ultimate teacher. And while winning was joyful, those who won often did not grow from it. It was only because of this bit of wisdom that Knuckles did not hate himself for taking two steps back from his dream with this fight. He had gained a bit of wisdom from this loss.

Knuckles did not get up, he did not move. He was unable to do either as his vision had gone from blurred to black. His body went heavy and numb, and the Demon's voice was silent.

Kon

Even as the bolt left the string, with a sharp twang resonating, Kon knew his arrows had been perfect. His opponent, despite all of his attempts to evade, dodge or otherwise escape Kon’s attacks, was unsuccessful and so with the spells finding their target, Knuckles fell to the ground lead by his hammer. Unlike his former opponents, first and foremost Azure who had suffered far more grievous injuries from their clash, Knuckles seemed largely unscathed from a long term perspective. Going to a healer nonetheless would still be advisable given he was unconscious at this point. In the past he may have considered just leaving the warrior on the ground where he lay, but he was now burdened with responsibilities and being a moral citizen. And so slinging his bow behind his back, Kon approached Knuckles, hoisted him onto his back and headed back to Astera, carrying the man’s dropped weapon in his free hand. Just returning to the dock was a challenge in itself, Knuckles weighed barely a thing to the former mage, instead it was his floppy frame that made things difficult.
