Brone Heavyaxe
Brone Heavyaxe was limited in his selection of quests. The billboard had little to nothing usually, so the moment he found a new parchment, he quickly snatched it before anyone could make the attempt. He smiled, seeing that a Lord of Hargeon needed a guard. Finally a quest that didn't need any of the skills Blue Pegasus was known for that Brone lacked in; he was guard material and he was proud of that.

His happiness dwindled when he met with Lord Reign Valystasia. "My apologies, Sir Heavyaxe" Reign had said, hiding his smile behind a well positioned hand. He looked upon the dwarf who was heavily armored; ringmail from the shoulder to his legs, iron helmet topped off with both his axes on his back, "I should have been more detailed in my request, but need someone to tend to my niece while I finish my work here, unfortunately, I will be busy for quite some time, I hope you can still accept this quest" the lord seemed sincere enough which is why Brone felt he couldn't back out, even if the quest turned out to be a babysitting request. So he accepted.

Brone was led by the maid to Lora's room, during the walk, the dwarf couldn't help but marvel at the expensive décor that lined the home. The door was opened and the maid introduced them, "My lady Lora, this is Sir Brone Heavyaxe, he will be accompanying you during your outside activities" the maid's voice was soft spoken, and Brone expected the young girl who he saw would be the same, though he was wrong.

"Very well then, take me to the beach" the child stood up from a bundle of stuffed animals that sat around a small toy teaparty set. Lora, tossed her blonde pigtails behind her head, her chin was up, and with her cold expression, she acted as if she owned everything, including visitors who walk in her shadow, though she was simply a child. Brone gritted his teeth, trying to force a smile.

Brone was given a blanket and unbrella by the maid. He escorted Lora to the nearby beach, and whenever the niece of the lord had began to skip or run ahead, the dwarf would call out while trying to catch up "Slow down!"

Once they reached the beach, the sound of the moving waves soothed Brone, releasing some tension, but it wouldn't last. Lora looked at the dwarf, staring at him while he spread the blanket onto the sand, then positioned the umbrella to provide shade, "Got a question?" the dwarf noticed her staring.

"Are you a good person?" Lora asked, her expression still sour.

"Aye, part of a guild and all" he sighed as he finally finished setting up the umbrella.

"Prove it" she said, her little hands fell onto her hips.

"Ok... how?" the dwarf had taken care of kids before, but dwarf children were much different and easier to handle than humans, so he was finding this difficult.

"Bring me all the seashells" She said while pointing at the shore line where the water retreaded from. Brone groaned before he began picking up seashells he spotted, hoping she would get bored and move on to the next thing.

Brone found an abalone rainbow shell; he wasn't sure if it had great value or not, but he was lucky enough to find it because once Lora had seen it, she was enchanted by it and forgot about the task of the dwarf collecting the rest of the seashells. After a few minutes, Lora's intrigue of the shell was gone and then she complained about the heat of the sun.

"Then lay on the blanket underneath the umbrella" Brone said, trying not to groan.

"But I want to dip my feet into the water" Lora complained. The dwarf didn't argue and went to retrieve the umbrella. He held it over the little girl while she walked along the shallow water in her bare feet while she had Brone hold her shoes.

"Enjoying yerself?" Brone tried to sound kind in his words, but Lora just scoffed and looked away, the dwarf sighed heavily.

Brone and Lora had eventually reached the end of the beach where the entrance to a forest was, "Time to turn back" he said, however just as he was about to turn on his heel, Lora stopped him with a "No!" The dwarf turned to her to see she was pointing to the forest.

"I want to see colorful flowers" she demanded.

"Yer batty, the sun will be going down soon, and we're already too far away from yer home" Brone told the girl.

"I want to see the colorful flowers! And you have to do as I say or I'll tell my uncle!" she stopped her feet which kicked up sand onto Brone. The dwarf gritted his teeth, a vein starting to show on the side of his head, both for having to deal with the spoiled brat and for the fact that he'll have to clean out the sand that got into his armor during this entire trip.

"Fine! but we'll make it quick" he said through clenched teeth. The two of them made their way into the forest.

For the next couple of minutes they were searching until they found a grove of beautiful flowers of different colors. Lora demanded she have a bundle of the flowers and Brone began picking them, albeit aggravatedly. Once he had a good amount, he turned about and asked, "This enough, lass?" but Lora wasn't in sight.

"Lora!?" The dwarf called out, but when he didn't hear a reply, he began to search the area, running through trees in the direction he was sure he had seen her last, hoping she was nearby.

Brone rushed through a cluster of trees before bursting into a small clearing, but no sign of Lora yet, "Lora!" he called out as he began to look about himself, slowing his pace, trying to give himself a chance to look around as much as he could, hoping he didn't miss her. Suddenly the lighting dimmed. The sun was going down; even though the dwarf could see in the dark, creatures of the night would be on the prowl, he'll need to find her fast. So he continued to call out her name, hoping to hear her voice and scare away any threats.

Eventually, the sunset was at it's last rays and with the thickness of the forest, the area Brone was in was already dark, little to no light pierced into his vicinity. Just when he was about to call out Lora's name again, he caught the sound of something. His hand was about to go to the handle of his axe when he recognized the sound was of crying. He quickly followed the direction of where the crying was coming from until he burst through a brush to find Lora huddled at the base of a large tree.

Lora curled up into a ball, scared and crying. She wasn't able to see who had just arrived, given that it was too dark for her eyesight.

"Don't ye worry, lass, I'm here" Brone softened his tone to calm her, which in turn calmed him, glad he had finally found her.

"M-Mr. Dwarf?" Lora looked up to face his direction, obvious she wasn't able to see him, but Brone could see tears had streamed down the little girl's face.

"Aye" he knelt in front of her and gently grabbed her hand into his gloved hand, [color=brown]"How's about we head home? Yer uncle's probably worried."

"B-but, it's d-dark" Lora whimpered. This was the first time Brone heard the girl's soft spoken voice, and for her it was the first time she heard Brone's.

"Here, this is a Helmet of Bravery, a magic item my father found during his adventures" Brone removed his helmet and placed it onto Lora's head, though it was loose, Lora held it in place and seem to have calmed a little. Brone then placed the girl onto his shoulder before he then began walking towards the entrance of the forest.

"Is this really a Helmet of Bravery?" Lora finally broke the silence after the two made their way several yards through the thick of the forest.

"Is it working?' Brone simply asked.

"Yes" She said, her voice finding her strength. Brone didn't need to answer. The two of them made their way out of the forest and back onto the beach. The sun was already gone and the night sky was filled with stars, but for the ocean, it was black like the night. For Lora, this was a first for her, so it was scary, and amazing at the same time.

"Do you have magic that lets you see in the dark?"

"No, lass, we dwarves just have very good eyesight" he laughed.

The two of them spent their time talking, Lora asking questions about the dwarf's adventures, and magic items he has heard of while Brone answered them all, letting out a good dwarven chuckle that lightened the mood for both of them. By the time they got to the manor, they were both greeted by Lord Reign and the maid, worried about Lora, they embraced her. When they asked why they had been out for so long, Lora simply said they went picking flowers. They all laughed.

Brone stayed for dinner and he made his formal farewells before leaving, though the maid had stopped him before he left out the door, handing him the reward he was promised. He thanked her and made his way.
