After purchasing her hunter’s coat lucretia felt a little more secure in her order of doing things. She felt like she was really making an honest move forward. The impact on the people around her felt like something she honestly couldn’t even explain properly. The hope that she saw in their eyes when she came back time and time again. Bruised but not beaten, battered but not defeated.

But… today was a different day as she set out; to the mines once again to find herself the alpha that had stood above all else. She had dwindled a good size of their resources and found herself going deeper than ever before. The woman used her sword the best she could to continue going into the mines. Up until she found him.

The shepherd.

The Lycan that she had heard only minor whispers about; but to her he was more than that. He was a symbol she had felt like she needed to crush. Standing just about the same height as her, with a pale complexion, grey hair and deep green eyes. They shared an honest moment staring and studying one another.

But Lucretia could feel something was off about him, the twisted way he stared at her and the twisted way that this felt just wrong. He’d slowly stand and grin ear to ear like his victory was guaranteed. Even with her equipment Lucretia felt like this was going to be an uphill battle.

She’d widen her stance, eyeing his loose one before he shifted. His height and build was impressive before but now? He was taller than her by a sheer difference of nearly three feet. Her eyes widened a bit and she’d take a moment to assess the difference in their reach…

But there wasn’t much she could do as he lept forward, his reach was like her arm plus her sword. Practically dwarfing any chance she had at making a dent in his body; if it wasn’t for her keeping an eye on him she might have missed his spring. Might have missed the claws that tore into the support behind her as she dove out of the way. Coming up only to see a brief instant of his palm slamming into the side of her head.

She was clearly outmatched in terms of strength and speed. Unsure of if this met with his tolerance for pain or his general endurance. But the fact she was launched from her crouching position to the otherside of the room she found herself tumbling near the edge of a mine shaft. Dizzy but not out, the woman slowly stood up, growling in irritation. Something she had to consider was buying a helmet. Even something basic would help protect her.

Another spring adn this time she was ready, bringing her sword up in a slash. A glancing blow as he stopped short, snarling in irritation. His weight was more than enough to send her flying again as his blow struck her in the ribs; making her cough up blood. Sitting up from the position she was cast in she could feel the judging eyes of the shepherd on her.

There was no doubt about it; he was a different class of Lycan than she was used to hunting. The woman grimaced a bit and slowly pushed herself up much to the surprise of the individual in front of her. He’d clap as he slowly made his way towards her.

Not many can take two blows from me. Lycan or Human. Kudos to you hunter.

Those were the last words he spoke to her, the n ext blow was uncermeonious. A low blow from his leg that smashed her against the ceiling. Forcing the breath from her lungs, but in response. Maybe from the fact she had been anticipating him striking her the alpha would glance at the gash that was now in one arm. His brows raising as though he was impressed. Watching her fall from the ceiling…

But she didn’t seem to really care as she used this to her advantage. They both knew where she was going to be falling from but… There was some kind of surge and with his oncoming strike she found herself meeting it with blade in hand. While it didn’t cut off that clawed hand it damn well might have if she had been stronger. Instead it just simply caught in his muscle.

There was an eyeroll and like dealing with a child he’d kick her away. The grip on her sword was not strong enough to keep it as she flew across the room again. Landing in a neat heap. He’d examine the blade and hiss as it was burning his flesh from the contact. Bladed end was dangerous even though it wasn’t being wielded by it’s owner.

Glancing at the shaft he’d toss the sword down it, bemused as he could hear it clanging. Turning his attention to the hunter that was slowly dragging herself up on a wall he couldn’t help but praise her tenacity. Grinning ear to ear… Just before she stomped her feet, casting a spell of her own. His eyes widened and there was now a shard of ice careening his way not even a moment after. One spell after the other? He hadn’t even seen her drawback to launch that punch. Side stepping he’d watch as it lost momentum… just before tinkering to a halt a few feet after him.

Even without her weapon she still had spunk huh?

He’d fix that, or at least try to. That grin spread and he’d walk forward, fully intent on breaking this hunter one way or another!

It felt like hours even though it had only been a few minutes. It felt like he was just toying with her. First disarming her, then just throwing her about. Watching with some kind of sick glee as she crashed against the various walls. She stopped feeling one of her arms nearly twenty minutes prior. It hanging limply and not responding to her demands. She’d spit some blood on the floor as she stared up at the shepherd.

He was enjoying it so much that it was clear, her arms felt weak. Her breath felt heavy. But she’d keep on, digging deep and just standing her ground. Stomping her feet again and roaring with passion as the magical seal went up and down her body. She’d draw back and they were met with a furious exchange of blows between the two of them.

He wasn’t taking any chances with how fierce she was being. Growling and fighting like a madwoman. Digging in deeper and deeper as she felt something crack in her other arm. But it didn’t hurt like her first one. So she just kept throwing punches. She felt a sense of pride as she managed to make him stagger back. Maybe just from her sheer tenacity…

But the next time she was launched off of her feet it felt like it wasn’t with so much gusto. Dragging herself up and looking around in a haze she could tell his chest was heaving. While they were fighting maybe he wasn’t as tough as she thought him to be. But then again maybe he was just enjoying himself.

He’d approach her and she’d consider something, her hand gripping the side of the wall. Slowly standing tall and letting loose again with a barrage of punches. Meeting her at every avenue...

Haze.

Nothing but, she felt the burning passion from earlier still there. Putting pride in her work. She could see that she was getting where she wanted with this lycan. He was frustrated. Not even a little bit ago he had tried to break her remaining arm just for her to land a solid blow to one of his eyes. Now he was roaring in a fit of rage and she was sitting against the wall.

She’d grin and slowly start to pull herself up; coughing as she felt the blood well in her chest. He must have broken a rib or three; he must have broken so much in one of her arms. Must have hurt so many organs. Must have made her into nothing but a pulp. At least that’s how it felt like.

In that haze she’d look around as his roaring dwindled; mostly growling now. He was calming down and she could see the blood dripping from his snout. She could see that this place was well lit. Some other lycans had arrived to watch the two fight. Looking taken back with how long she had survived. A low throaty chuckle and she’d stand up straight and tall. Pounding on her chest even though it hurt.

As long as I draw breath I won’t give up. No matter how much you break. No matter how much you think I’ll give in. I will win in the end.

The shepherd stared at her with abject hatred and the other lycans that had arrived looked hesitant to do anything other than watch. He started to walk towards her again and lucretia couldn’t help but glance at the mineshaft that the beast had thrown her sword down.

For the first time in the bout her face broke into a smile.

I will win in the end.

Unforgizing, Zealous, unrelenting. A juggernaut that refused to bow, refused to break. Snarling and roaring in pain the shepherd and her exchanged blow after blow. She felt her arm’s strength dwindling but she found her passion for this fight growing. She felt his claws against her skin, his fangs breaking into her muscles and blood rolling down her flesh.

But he wasn’t without his own wounds, her sword may be gone but this hunter simply wasn’t giving up. She took every moment she could, took every opening she could. In the eye, the throat. In the neck. She practically hit every spot again and again. Kicking into the wounds she had made earlier to send pain through his body.

Kicking off of the wall to slam against him, sending him off balance. Using her weight to her advantage. Every little thing she could do, he had stopped throwing her around. Maybe he couldn’t anymore, maybe this haze driven hunter had brought him closer and closer to the edge. Maybe he couldn’t figure out what drove her so intensely forward. If he could break that…

He’d have another packmate perhaps or someone he could lord over. Someone he could show the ones around here that he truly did have it out for the world. Or that he would be the one in control. Her skull would make an excellent necklace. If it wasn’t slamming against his own, dazing the both of them. She’d stagger back and curse her short sighted move. But they were slowly making their way to that mine shaft...

She found herself at a loss for the first time in their fight. The pain in her arm had grown and was distracting her. Her blows had lost their touch and throwing herself at this problem wasn’t making the same dent as before. But the two of them were locked in combat still. That odd haze that she kept on pushing at; the haze of death looming above her.

Just how much blood did she lose? How much did she break? How her breath was shortening and she wasn’t boasting anymore. But that smile hadn’t wiped itself off of her face. In fact did she even notice that? She’d draw her fist back and with the last bit of her mana would send a shard of ice into the chest of the shepherd who grunted and simply strode forward. Bleeding from multiple wounds of his own.

He had stopped dodging, maybe with lack of energy or just figuring that he wouldn’t need to one he had killed her. He could recover and order his men to bring him a healing draught or something. Growling in irritation as he neared Lucretia brought her fist up and punched into her shard. Causing the both of them to roar in pain.

Gods that hurt

Was all she could think as she drew her hand back, shaking off the blood and glaring up at the wolf that now had taken a step back. Breaking out the ice shard and throwing it bloodstained to one side. The both of them were approaching their limits. Or had they already approached and passed those? It was hard to tell. Lucretia dug her heels in and sprang forward with a bout of energy she didn’t know she had and punched the Shepherd full on in the face, sending him backwards a step, then two...

She hadn’t seen the blow that was meant to end her life, she hadn’t seen it punch into her stomach and lift her up in the air. Grinning ear to ear as they were fully prepared to gloat. But Lucretia wasn’t having any of it. Reaching down to grip at the lycan’s face he started to drawl out like he was going to talk…

But Lucretia didn’t let him, instead she grabbed his fang and with a display of strength she didn’t know she had ripped it out of his mouth. Causing the lycan’s amused expression to shift from pleasure to that of complete pain. Roaring and throwing her, bleeding stomach across the room. Slamming her down against the wall she had been thrown again time and time again.

Lucretia’s smile widened and she’d slowly stand up. She could feel her lifeblood draining but this next bit was all her own. She’d roar in a mix of pain and challenge. Running forward and using the werewolf’s weakened legs as a springboard she’d stab directly into one of his eyes. The same one that she had punched earlier for that extra zing.

Now both of them were practically roaring in pain, but where lucretia felt like she’d been punched over and over again… She also knew that she had a chance of living if she kept on like this. This display of strength would no doubt terrify the other lycans…

If any were there. They all had fled at some point during the fight and now the two of them were alone. Chests heaving and staring at one another with death in either of their eyes. She could feel the tug and she refused. She refused over and over again. Practically shoving away that sensation.

I’m not finished with you yet.

Shepherd was barely standing, she was barely standing. They stared at one another for a few long moments. The lycan wasn’t grinning, wasn’t amused, in fact rage was filling his features. But Lucretia didn’t care. She had brought him to the very lowest he could possibly be, in front of everyone he strove to lead.

Here she was fighting him, someone that was outclassing her at the start only to find that he wasn’t anything like her. Wasn’t someone that would give up. So she did what she could do and threw punch after punch, finding the werewolf’s fists or claws against her own. At some point she stumbled. He had kicked her stomach, causing her to cough up blood.

The two of them were practically falling over one another until she had gotten near the mine shaft entrance. She stared at it for a moment and with a heave she’d tackle herself into the lycan. The two of them struggled briefly and when the wolf felt the edge of the world yawn to meet him he’d glance back in panic.

Wait-

She’d heave again and the both of them fell into oblivion. The yawning abyss that had decided to reveal itself. He was screaming and cursing her, cursing her endurance and cursing her tenacity. But she drew herself back. She was going to throw a punch but she just… felt too much give way and she felt the creeping black of unconsciousness dig deep for the first time in this fight. The haze giving away to the bloody and grim sensation of death...

And that was when she awoke, what felt like days or years later. She could feel pain all over and would groan as she slowly sat up. Wheezing and coughing. Looking around as she could feel her life strengthen. She could feel her wounds not as serious as before. Something had helped? Maybe? She couldn’t tell.

It was dark, impossibly so… For all of a few minutes. The mine shaft yawned up above her and she’d glance around slowly. She was in some kind of cave? With deep blue lights and a gentle reminder of what she had come here to do made her wince. She’d look down to find her arm in a splint and some bandages over her chest. Her brows shot up and she’d look around rapidly for any signs…

Only to find one.

The one that she had hunted for some time; the werewolf she had stumbled across his lodgings. The one that he had fought various packs under his leadership…. She found her sword had been sticking up, lodged between two rocks. It had punched through his chest, likely through the heart.

The hunter stood there staring at the fight that had taken what felt like days simply ended by luck. Her mouth tugged in a frown and she’d retrieve her sword without a word. Staring down at the body. Her job had been done, she had killed what she had meant to… but she had to wonder. What had helped her? What had pushed her from beyond the brink back into the world. Mumbling softly; managing all she could for the moment.

Thank you.

She’d sigh softly and turn on her heel, looking to explore the cave she had been deposited to by fate. Or maybe just maybe… Lady luck was starting to shine on her one star at a time.
