Tempris sat at the beach on her towel. It was a hot day in Stella which was why the girl decided to keep her veil off. She still wore her thin black dress though this was one design to not be ruin by the sea water. If it did get too wet or she became too hot, the girl was wearing a swimsuit underneath. She originally planned to change into it but Tempris was feeling a bit nervous about wearing it after that beauty pageant. She had to wear such revealing outfits and well… she felt like bugs were crawling all over her when all those eyes were looking at her body. So for now, she kept it on. She did take off her shoes though so she could walk in the sand bare footed. She remembered reading in a book that it was good for your feet. Something about the rough sand removing the dead skin or other.

Her towel was set up in an area where there were very few people, if any. Nobody here at the beach seemed like somebody she knew nor somebody would wanted to be around her. She was not exactly the most popular person in the guild.

This could have been either because of her age, reputation, or her devotion to Illumin. While she could always mention that she was the guild master’s daughter, she did not want to live life in the shadows of others. She was her own light after all, even if she had to glow alone, on this beach during a guild event. She did not need anyone. She could have fun on her own.

She stood up and walked to the water trying to step on the sand lightly just to see how careful she could walk. It was not exactly the most interesting game but if she focused really hard, she could pretend it was training. It would be like she was trying to sneak up on a sinner. When she reached the wet sand, she slowed down and watched the water run up the beach only to chicken out and retreat. She smiled. It was like the water was afraid of her. Of course she knew it was not but it did not matter. This thought made her feel better. So she thought about it.

Eventually, she would walk up closer to the water and let the waves crawl over her feet.

As it pulled back, she felt it pull her feet into the sand. It was like she was being swallowed but very slowly. It would have been a scary thought if she did not know she could just lift her foot and free herself. Fortuantally, she did know. She raised her foot but when she stepped down, she felt something hard poke her the soul of her foot. She picked up her foot and stepped back and saw a small sea snail shell.

It was tan and seemed to have no cracks as she picked it up out of the sand. It was very shiny as the sunlight refracted off of its moist shell. There were small reddish orange lumps that ran across brown stripes that striped the top of the shell. The stripes were horizontal and covered most of the shell up until you reached the last two segments of this 4 segment shell. The middle segment between the segment with stripes and the last segment was limb green and looked as if it was probably bleach and saturated with more color earlier in the shell’s life. The Last segment was a light plum color but the girl did think this segment was bleached as well.

It was interesting that these colors on the shell looked so faded but the strips were so full of color. It really made her question if the last two segments were actually bleached. It was here that she realized that the third segment did not have any red bumps. If anything, the stripes were not completed as there were gaps which showed the shell’s base color. She looked inside of it but there was nothing special inside. She looked around to see if anyone was looking at her. With nobody around, she held it up to her ear. However, she could not hear anything. So she did what you do with anything useless. She threw it into the waves and watched the greedy foam swallow it, never to be seen again.

She walked deeper into the waves and the water was starting to run up her shins. It was now that her dress was getting wet but it was okay. She looked down at her feet and wiggled her toes as the sand tried to eat her feet. It was such a futile effort by the sand. She smiled and bent down so she could dip her finger into the water.

She expected only sand to wash around her finger but something else decided to surprise her. A round circular shell which looked something similar to a coin, if the coin was dull, old and not worth anything. It had what looked like a starfish imprinted on it. Then, at that moment, she realized what it was. It was called a sand dollar. It was interesting to see but it was borning. It was not the pretty shells she was hoping to see, like the last one she had. So cocked her arm back and then frisbied it off into the ocean.

Well, Tempris was getting bored of standing in the waves. The other shells were very pretty but in the end, they were just boring shells. Seeing pretty things was chilling when you were alone after a while. So Tempris packed up her stuff and started heading home. She had been on vacation way too long. It was time to do Illumin’s work. After all, the world was full of sinners and she was the only one willing to clean it of such filth. Even if she had to follow the rules of her current guild in order to not be so alone, so cold, she was going to find a way to do it.
