The Fallen Call (Story Line) Empty Thu May 20, 2021 11:02 pm

Kazimir Seiryu
Wind whistles through old trees, carrying the story of strife and misery from times past. The barren land crunches beneath each step. Thatched roofs sit half caved into empty homes.

Old gates hand ragged over the narrow path twisting into the village center. The stone is cold to the touch. Flashes of memories years ago, race through his mind. Falling. Pain searing into his chest and back. His hand gently clutches the loss fitting fabric around his heart. His eyes shut tight, wincing from the thoughts. "How long has it been now Orianna." His fingers leave the stone archway, as dust crumbles onto the ground.

His throat runs dry and chills climb up his back. The moment more difficult than he thought. The grand tower stands in the center of the town. The windows all cracked and jagged glass liters the ground. It was not been that long since the place was inhabited, but already it has become a heap of ruin.

The tower looms over the small village. No ceiling hides the top level. An open-air terrace to always feel the wind against your face. Kaz's vision trails down the side of the tower. A vague image of himself holding someone in his arms, flutters to the ground and vanishes. The smell of his own blood clings to the thoughts of his past.

A deep gulp forces down his imaginings and hesitations. His foot lifts but hangs in the air. A small twitch preludes a deep breath before the mage crosses the threshold back into one of his homes from his youth, sitting on the border of Stella and Joya.

"Finally. I've made my way back," he steps into his future and his past converging at once. The village is silent. Crinkled leaves tumble along the ground. He walks by an old sakura tree barely blooming in the courtyard and sees himself as a child running in circles around it and then as a man standing alongside the people that meant the world to him. Both the clans standing united.

He pulls the scarf tighter around his neck and scans the area. "The tempest of the east...a crypt." his words stir the spirit dwelling within him. The tiger roars at the grim site. Kazimir turns his head away. A deep breath calms the beast.

The steps of the tower hold firm beneath his feet. The door is a jar and leans at an angle against the wall. Kazimir presses it back. Debris rattles and flutters to the ground. "I've my work cut out for me it seems. Where do I even begin?" He sits on the hard floor. Moonlight bleeds into the half-broken ceilings above him, from one floor to the next as if some great terror rained down into the tower. The stone wall braces his back and his legs stretch out on the floor limp. He could hear the dances of his youth around him. The parties. The encouraging words from his master. His gloved hand raises. The black cloth drips with the memory of his master's blood pooled over him. His brothers' lives were taken. A tear flows down his cheek and then another like dewdrops cascading from a leaf after a morning drizzle.

"All of you...Why did it have to end this way..." He curls his legs up. His once bloodied hand holds his head. Indigo hair dripping through his fingers. Silence surrounds him, broken by a small cough to clear his through and a deep breath. "Alright then," he gathers himself and stands. Iron floods his senses and his eyes grow wide, whirling around. A shadowy figure in a hallway slips into the darkness, but Kaz could make out the young masculine face before it vanishes. A drop of blood speckled the ground.

"I know you're there. Come out."

Kazimir leaned to the side. Wind rushed from his body sending debris to the corners of the walls. If anything had changed in his mind from his transformation it was a lack of patience in dealing with potential threats. He could hear the faint whimper of noise on the far side of the wall.

The room rushed around the wind mage as he appeared in the doorway. The backdraft of wind billowed in behind him. A small child sat curled up against the wall. long matted hair presses against his shoulders. Arms clasped tightly around his knees. Kaz's eyes were red and the child seemed so small. Young eyes peeked above small arms and locked frozen into Kaz's red eyes.

Breath exhaled from the mage's nostrils. He reached out to the young man's shoulder. The boy recoiled arching his shoulders high around his chin. "It's alright. My name is Kazimir...of the Byakko clan," the words struggled to leave his lips from years of repression. Life flooded back into the boy's eyes and faded to fear once more. "No. You're not. They are all dead!"

Kaz sighed and slid down slowly, "That's not true. I am the last it would seem. Or maybe not," he tilted his head, wondering if this boy was a new orphan brought to the village.

"But you weren't with them when they..." the boy's eyes widened. Kaz could hear his heart slamming against his chest. The blood dripping from a cut on his hand flowed more freely. The boy scooted himself away. "You're the one they were after! Come to kill us all!"

"The history is more complicated than you think," Kaz stood back up and the wind changed direction. The image of the white tiger appeared behind him.

The boy scooted further away, seeing the white tiger. "The symbol of the clan...but you were supposed to be a traitor."

"And yet the spirit still chose me. The elder was wrong. He turned his back on the soul of the clan for his own agenda. Siphoned false power from the spirit and I was given the power to stop him," Kaz kneeled down as the tiger vanished in a spectacle of lights accompanied by a flurry of wind. The boy's eyes seemed filled with conflict. Kaz had ended the life of the man that raised him but was also supported by the clan spirit.

"It's okay. Take your time. But I'm here to rebuild the clan the way it was supposed to be," he extended his hand to the young lad. The boy took a deep gulp and stood with Kaz's help. A second whimper came from further down the hall. A girls voice this time.

"Another," The mage asked.

"My sister...we were hiding from them," the boy forced the words out through a chattering jaw. Kaz's ears perked up, his senses reaching out to the world around him.
"Hiding from who?" The mage looked down the hall as the girl rushed forward. her shoes clattered about the ground haphazardly. She blinked back tears and fell into her brother's arms.

"The demons," the boy whispered. The hole in the wall that allowed light to pour in, flashed with darkness. Kaz spun around looked in all directions. His mind calculated what it could be and why now. It was what the clan was built on though. But had they truly come this far?

"Demons in the village? How long have they been here?"

"Just the past few days. We've been hiding here and eating what we can. If we leave, they'll find us." Fear gripped the boy's words. Kaz rose a hand to hush his mouth as another shadow raced over the hole leading to the outside courtyard.

Kaz ushered the two into a small closet. The door was still intact. Within was a small barren room. Kaz took in a deep breath. This was not the welcome that he expected to get upon his return. "Stay here. I'll be," a surge or power rippled through the hallway. The words barely left the mage's lips when he was battered from the side and yanked from the floor. The walls zoomed by, the paintings were a blur. His ribs ached.

White walls gave way from the crash of the wind mage. Stones and debris covered his vision. He shook off the rubble and stood up to see a tall spindly figure step through the hole, ducking under to fit through. Tendrils of darkness spiraled off its main body.

Indigo hair fell over kaz's shoulders. The wind kicked up around him. The shadowy figure took a large step forward. The wind around the mage roared to life, pushing at the remaining walls and rattling windows. The demon figure's step studdered and halted midway.

Red eyes pierced through the dust. Kaz's hands became fists. The demon spirit charged. "To slow," the Fairy Tail mage dashed through the wind and appeared beside the figure. The monster swung its arm. The force grazed over Kaz's head. His scarf caught by the claws of the creature. The wind mage was flung skyward. The ceiling was a mere yard away when Kaz flipped and pressed his feet against it. Wind concentrated around his feet but no magic circle sprang to life. The kids peeked from the crack in the doorway.

Kaz dashed downward evading the strike of the creature and landed low. With his hand held like a claw, the mage swiped upward sending a claw of wind cutting dark chunks from the creature. Another punch from the demon followed. Kaz rolled beneath the attack, that ruptured the ground behind him.

The ground splintered into pieces and Kaz rolled next to the wall. The beast roared and spun its body around with unnatural speed for a being of its size. The red eyes pierced through Kazimir as the beast released a flurry of blows. Kaz leaped backward. Blow after rained down, tearing the ground asunder. The wind mage ran across the walls. His feet kicked off of ledges and overhangs. They two battled down the hallway. Boom...the side of a wall ruptured from the demon's fist. Debris scoured the air between them. Kazimir spun and landed on his feet. The Demon's shadow cast over him. It hovered for an instant of dread. Kazimir slapped the ground. The wind scattered in all directions. He shot backward as a dark claw crashed down. Trails of shredded cloth flung behind him. He rubbed his exposed stomach, through the tattered hole that was created. He skidded on his feet and readied his hands for another attack. The demon ran across the walls in a mad spiral, toward him. Like a dark cloud that filled the hall. Kazimir crossed his arms over his face and stomped. The mage blasted upward and crashed through the thin ceiling into the second floor.

Kaz landed on the second floor. A gaping hole was left in the center of the ornate room. It was an old shrine kept together by the wind clan. Scrolls and paintings lined the walls, showing the history of the clan and the lineage it followed. Kazimir's name was etched out. The wind mage's brow dropped but he cared less than he thought he would. On the far side of the room was the chair reserved for the clan leaded.

Shadow-like tendrils reached through the hole he created. The demon exploded out of the hole. its body morphed to fit through and it stood with one foot on each side of the hole. The children from below peeked their heads around the corner of the wall, but Kaz couldn't acknowledge them or it would put them at risk. Behind the shadow demon, was the great mural of the white tiger. Kaz rolled his shoulders and cracked his neck. The wind whipped through the room and extinguished the candles, that were likely lit by the squatters. "Time to put an end to this. We're far enough away now," Kaz said and roared. The spirit of the white tiger appeared behind him roaring in unison.

Wind slammed into the side of the building. Shutters rattled and whipped about. The wind howled through the halls, and the kids huddled closer together but kept an eye on the appearance of the white tiger. The demon recoiled. One of its dark clawed feet stepped back as if to brace itself for what was happening. Its eyes locked onto the white tiger and burned more furiously than before. The sky outside turned dark and shadows cast into the room. Darkness took over what little light there was and a crack of thunder echoed down the hall and filled the room. The roof ripped off. A dozen tornados whirled down from the dark heavens and crashed into the shrine. Walls shattered and the floor caved in. The shadow demon was surrounded by the onslaught of wind and engulfed in its fury. Shadowy darkness wove into the tornado as the demon was torn asunder and then all fell silent once more. Kaz dropped back down the hole and called to the young ones if they were okay. The group tip-toed from behind a wall and then rushed the wind mage as soon as they saw it was safe. The leader of the group explained the arrival of the demons and that the shrine had been barren since the clan left.
