Atani wasn't sure if Blue Pegasus's library was the best place to start, but it was worth a shot.

There was a book in her possession. A book written in a language she had no knowledge of. Though for that matter, it might not have been a language at all. It could have been a code of sorts, but if that was the case, it was no code she had seen either. Its pages were filled with symbols that held no more meaning to the elf than scribbles. And yet, despite not knowing a thing about it, she had still paid a large sum of money to a blond wizard with an eye patch to obtain the text.

Definitely not sketchy at all.

She knew from Zane that whatever contents were in the book, his research in Baska wound up with no answers. Though Atani doubted Hargeon would prove any different, it was still worth a shot. So, she set to work. She found a quiet spot at the library. The book laid wide open on the wooden table. The elf rummaged through the nearby bookshelves, searching for any book that related to ancient languages or codes. She found something of the sort, though it was only limited to specific regions within Fiore. Even if it didn't provide her with the answers she needed, perhaps it would put her on the right track.

Atani brought the book back to her spot and began to flip through its pages. She settled on a chapter that appeared to hold interesting information. Not much time had passed before another person of her guild entered the library, a man with long blue hair and scarlet eyes.

"Oh, hello," she said as he neared her table. In her experience, not many in the guild ventured to the library like her. The hours she spent in there were often in solitude. This was a surprising, but not unwelcome, change of pace.

Blue Pegasus a guild known for it's well dressed and pretty members, it's killer parties and powerful mages. When someone says "Blue Pegasus" it doesn't exactly scream "Academics" does it? Yet still, in the port town there was an extensive Library at the guild's disposal filled to the brim with various books and tomes. A place like this was kind of like a hidden gem in the town. While it wasn't exactly a public place it was known to them and with permission anyone could come in. However the guild had special access thanks to their patronage and it extended to their members.

If not for this Raymus probably wouldn't have bothered to come. He was a free spirit for the most part and didn't like to plan too far ahead into his future. If he hadn't been in the guild the werewolf would have probably bailed out on any appointment he'd make for himself. But for now while he had the motivation he walked into the Library with a list of his own in his hands. As for why he was there? Well as it so happened the man from Seven was interested to hear learn of his heritage and hoped this would be the place to get some answers.

As he entered through the doors, a friendly face greeted him. At first Raymus was somewhat surprised to see anyone in the place. For the most part he assumed it would be empty, god knows most of the other members wouldn't be here. "Hey." He greeted as he moved to the table. Normally the werewolf wouldn't bother doing anything more aside from return the greeting but he figured this woman would be a apart of the guild too and Alisa always said he had to place nice with his guild mates and be polite. Besides for all he knew she needed help with something and guild mate or not he didn't mind lending a hand. Once he was close enough, Raymus noticed the girls pointed ears and recalled Lee speaking of a newer member of the elvish race that joined fairly recently. "Oh, you're the new girl that joined BP, um Anati?" He'd ask trying to recall the name from the recesses of his mind. His crimson eyes trailed over the book she was reading and his expression quickly changed. What the hell was she reading? "What kinda language is that? Or is it formulas?"

It seemed this man had recognized Atani. Though he had gotten her name wrong, he was correct in assuming she was one of the newer members of the guild. It wasn't surprising, she supposed. A wood elf among Blue Pegasus wasn't exactly something considered common. In fact, she hadn't seen one in the guild hall to her recollection. Word of her likely traveled fast.

"Atani," she politely corrected with a smile, "And you are?" His guess was close. She, on the other hand, had no clue who he was. If there was any discussion of other members among her guild, she paid little attention to it. Any names she overheard in conversation went over her head.

The blue-haired man became quite interested in the contents of her mysterious book. His first guess of an unknown language was closer than formulas. She knew what math and chemistry looked like. She could even identify alchemical symbols. These were not any of the sort.

"No, they're not formulas," she replied, shaking her head. "I bought this off of a wizard not too long ago. He couldn't translate it, so I thought I'd have a go. So far, no luck. It's either some sort of code or a completely different language."

Right now, it was hard to tell which was which. It was hard to believe that the language in the book would go undiscovered for as long as Zane tried to translate himself. But a code? She frankly hadn't had much experience in cracking those.

Atani was rather polite about Raymus messing her name up. Most other people, especially those on the higher society would almost certainly give the werewolf an earful for making such a stupid mistake. But then again those people would be human. Atani was an Elf so perhaps she was a little more patient with this kind of stuff. They did live a long time after all. That aside, she asked for his own name. "Raymus. Most people call me Ray." He replied in a similarly polite tone. He wasn't too surprised that she didn't know who he was. As far as reputations went Raymus was still fairly under the radar. He half thought being one of the only Werewolves in the guild it would help him stand out, especially with his hair colour and all. To him he didn't care though and if anything was happy he could get away with most of his antics without the possibility of someone recognizing him.

As his attention turned to the book, Atani explained how she got it and what she was doing. The words in the book were just that, words. No formulas or anything fancy like that. "You do this kind of thing for fun then?" He'd ask taking a seat and flipping his piece of paper over, leaving the blank page on the table as he pulled up a seat beside her. From his back pocket he pulled out a pen. "If it's a code then there's going to be a lot of symbols that are the same or similar. Like these." He said pointing the back of the pen into the book at a few words together. "Assuming the code translates to Fiorian we could take some of the shorter ones to make it fit with some of them. But if it's another language it'll be harder. And if the code constantly evolves in the book it could be even harder but it shouldn't be too bad. Have you found any other books on what the symbols mean or anything like that?" The blue haired lad asked, red eyes now softened and full with curiosity. At first glance Raymus wouldn't seem like the puzzle sort but for whatever reason he decided to throw himself head first into this one, without so much as asking Atani if she would want his help.

After correcting the blue-haired man on her name and asking for his own, he introduced himself as Raymus, though he preferred to go by Ray. "Nice to meet you then, Ray." She shot a friendly smile to the man. With introductions over, the two dove right into the contents of her book. Atani appreciated getting straight to the point with little chatter.

"You do this kind of thing for fun then?"

"Reading, yes. Translation, no. You could say I'm doing this as a favor for a... friend."

Her tongue lingered on that last word. Truth be told, she didn't know much about this Christian Zane. They met one day, went out for dinner and drinks the next, and then-- Atani refrained from shaking her head, though she very much wanted to just from the mere thought of that night. Whatever sort of relationship they had, the point still stood that she was doing this both to satisfy her own curiosity and to provide him clarity on whatever he experienced in Baska with the book's twin.

She listened to Ray explain his thoughts on the matter. Code breaking, in his opinion, should be rather simple if the language was in Fiorian. She nodded as he pointed out a specific pattern in the book, though it was hard to say if that was due to the word being a commonly used one, or if it was indeed part of a code. He asked if she knew of any other books with such script. She shook her head.

"The wizard I bought this from said he initially stumbled across this script from a book in Baska. This isn't the same one, but the symbols are identical. An elf actually was in possession of that book, but I can tell you now these aren't anything close to elven runes. The script was so uncommon, everyone in Baska thought trying to understand it was going to be a wild goose chase, but--" Atani shrugged. "-- he seemed to really believe that it was real, so I decided to have a go at it."

There was only one problem with her predicament.

"Though truth be told, I haven't even been to Baska, much less many other parts of Fiore. I came here from an elven forest rather recently, so I'm still a bit out of the loop."

Atani explained that the whole translation business wasn't for fun so much as it was a favor to a friend. Although it took her a second to actually say the word, as if she was trying to think of the relationship she had with this person. It almost sounded a little sketchy to the werwolf but the woman didn't seem distressed in any way so it was probably fine? She seemed to explain the whole situation perfectly well. Albeit the situation as a whole did sound rather convoluted in it's own way.

"Well that's a good start anyway. Ruling out some of those more finicky languages should make it easier for you." He said putt his pen back down on the table.

"Me neither, Hargeon has been the main place for me, aside from the capital. I kind of want to Travel more though. I hear Bosco is nice this time of year." He said with a smirk. It's whole royal situation was well known after all and it was a funny enough quip.

"Anyway, I can give you a hand if you want, I learned some basic decoding stuff when I was a kid." he said getting up from his seat. While it was a nice gesture to begin with, it did seem like Raymus came for his own reasons. The sheet of paper with the list of books he wanted to rent was still on the table, all of which seemed to either list something got to due with the country Seven or Werewolves. It would almost come across that the blue haired mage was procrastinating, putting his study on hold to help Atani. But how would she see it?

Though Raymus was correct about her elimination of the elven languages making the process of translation easier, she disagreed that it was anything significant. That improvement was only marginal, knocking out anything branching off of Elvarin, which sadly encompassed very few tongues. Of those, Atani could only fluently speak two.

"I suppose," she agreed, and then listened to what Ray said. Like herself, he did not do much traveling aside from Hargeon. Also like herself, he wanted to change that. In fact, he made a comment about Bosco which the elf laughed at. "That country's a bit of a mess now, isn't it."

It was amusing to poke fun of in the moment since the news with the royal siblings was rather new... However, she had heard whispers of concern among some of the older and wiser residents of Hargeon. Bosco was a neighboring country to Fiore. Depending on the sibling who took the throne, it could majorly impact Fiorians, but she and Ray were not there to discuss politics. They were at the library to get a start at decoding whatever was in this book. Or at least, Atani was. She did not know what Raymus came here to look for, but it appeared he became roped into her affairs.

"Sure, I guess. Though what kind of kid gets interested in decoding by chance?" The elf arched a brow. Her eyes drifted to the paper nearby Raymus. It listed some topics she wouldn't have expected the average Blue Pegasus mage to research, though her eyes did not linger long enough to read much more. She looked back to Raymus and awaited his answer.

Raymus nodded with the girls sentiment about Bosco. It was a mess to be sure and one he didn't want to focus on at this current moment in time. Maybe later when he could pick someone's brains about the whole political angle.

As the conversation continued, Atani accepted the help Ray had presented. She even went so far as to ask what sort of kid got into decoding. Not particularly knowing the norms of childhood in Fiore, Raymus took the response as one of surprise. "A kid who was forced by his parents of course." He said with a slight twinge of annoyance in his voice. "Back in Seven it was one of the many mandatory lessons kids had to learn." He went on to explain, trying to level out his voice. He didn't want the friendly elf to think her question annoyed him. And it didn't... totally anyway. Raymus was more annoyed thinking back to those long hot summer days being kept indoors trying to figure out some arduous puzzle before being let out. But as his explanation, the practice was more aimed toward noble children. Along with some other subjects it was taught as the foundation for the plutocracy.

"Anyway, let's get to it." He said, fully planning to devote his time on this subject with the elf. But what they would find out would be a story for another day.

Atani found it interesting what Ray had to say. Although he had experience in decoding from his youth, it was not his choice to delve into that unique field. As it would seem, he was from the country Seven, and the education system there was rather unique, to say the least. From his tone of voice, Atani gathered it was not an enjoyable experience-- She had heard bits and pieces about Seven, how they highly valued intelligence and logic over other things. From what her guild mate told her, that ideology started its cultivation in children.

"That's certainly... different from what my home does," she replied. Atani thought it best not to elaborate. She would simply leave it at that. Ray clearly had his thoughts on the matter, on how he was raised in Seven. It wouldn't be wise to talk about it simply to satiate Atani's curiosity if it bothered him. Besides, there were other matters at hand, namely the translation of the foreign material sitting in front of Atani. With any luck, her and Raymus would be able to make at least a little bit of progress.

But of course, whatever they accomplished that day would have to wait. There were more integral stories to tell of the two, the next one to take place in another land.
