Mikajia
When he heard from the cathedral again, he couldn’t believe what he was reading. They had need of his assistance with clearing out some catacombs again. This time though, it was at a different cathedral. One that was not quite as old as the church he’d been working for in the past, but the catacombs beneath its floors were much more extensive. He had to admit, he didn’t really know all that much about these religions, and he wasn’t one to outright bash a person’s beliefs, but for the life of him, he couldn’t understand what would ever possess someone to think that putting a bunch of dead bodies in small little crevices beneath a church, was ever a good idea.

Personally, he felt you were basically asking for trouble if you attempted something like that. And then they actually acted surprised when things started happening; ghosts and ghouls making the catacombs their homes, wreaking general havoc and causing chaos. It was beyond ludicrous in his opinion. But he wouldn’t argue with taking the job, it was easy money after all. But more to the point, he didn’t really have much else to do.

The letter he received said the creatures causing chaos were slightly different then the ones he had dealt with in the previous catacombs, though. They weren’t exactly sure what the apparitions were; be they ghost, ghoul, or any other number of sinister creatures. All they knew was that these beasts were fairly strong and durable. Any attempt they’ve made so far has failed utterly to rid them of these beasts. Not even holy water was working. He laughed thoroughly at that statement. Clearly these fools were under the deluded impression that their books and scrolls passed down through the generations were the be-all-end-all for these matters.

Mikajia
He didn’t know exactly why, but reading their frustration over trying and failing to deal with these creatures gave him some sort of dark satisfaction. A small grin pulling up the corner of his mouth. Mikajia folded the letter up, grabbed his gear and started out the door, making way for the smaller cathedral. As he wandered along the streets, he kept going over the letter in his head. From their descriptions, he felt he could safely assume that these creatures making the catacombs their home were definitely stronger and more sinister than the ones he had been dealing with from the other cathedral.

They mentioned that they had also employed the assistance of some other mages, but none of them had been successful so far in their efforts to cleanse the area of the creatures. He smirked at that thought. Anybody that knew anything at all about cleansing and purifying corrupted lands, knew that until the creatures inhabiting the area and infecting the land were dealt with, it was nearly impossible to cleanse the land. If they tried to jump to the last step before taking care of all the other required steps, it was no wonder they were having no luck.

All that would do would whip the spirits and creatures into a frenzy, and would in all honesty, cause more harm than good. So that would also explain why they thought these beasts were more dangerous and powerful than the previous ones. If Mikajia had to guess, these apparitions were most likely only marginally different from what he had dealt with. However, he wasn’t one to easily underestimate his opponent. So, though he believed these creatures would most likely be no harder to face and purge than the others had been, he would act as if that wasn’t the case, and face these opponents with the recommended force.

Mikajia
As he got closer to the cathedral requesting his help, he began sensing something from beneath the building. The odd feeling just grew and grew, the closer he got. It almost felt like his blood was screaming in glee. He didn’t know how else to describe it. He was almost giddy with anticipation, knowing what was to come. That very soon, he would be covered in the essence and blood of the creatures making a home in the catacombs. He knew the term bloodlust, but this was the first time he’d felt it this strongly before.

Mikajia had been feeling a bit weird for a few weeks now, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on the exact reason. The best way he could think of describing it, would be as some sort of awakening of sorts. There had come a time, shortly after being classified as an A-Rank mage now, where he felt like his body had underwent some kind of fundamental shift. He felt stronger and faster than ever before, and his magic reserves had deepened, and his power had taken a massive leap. He knew that there was quite the difference between B-Rank and A-Rank mages, but now that he had experienced it for himself, he realized how massive the gap was.

However, that was minute compared to the gap between A-Rank and S-Rank. And that’s what he was striving for now. But even that wouldn’t be enough for him. He would keep going till there was nowhere else to go, and then he would just make his own path from there. These thoughts made his blood boil in passion, a look of eagerness and confidence covering his face as he approached the priest. Apparently, he took Mikajia’s demeanor to mean he wasn’t taking the job seriously or something, cause the man arched a brow as he wandered closer, then spoke to him with a certain kind of contempt that told Mikajia the man thought very little of him.

Mikajia
Mikajia really couldn’t care less what the priest thought of him. All he cared about was getting his job done. And the longer it took for him to begin, the more coiled up he felt; like his body was barely holding back his bloodlust. He wanted to fight, he wanted to obliterate these creatures that had made these catacombs their home and were terrorizing the people. He wanted to kill, with every fiber of his being. When the priest begrudgingly led Mikajia to the entrance to the catacombs, he wasted no time in entering and turning his back on the priest. There were literally no words to describe how little he cared about the man’s opinion of him.

He was so focused on the fight ahead, he didn’t even hear murmurs from the man behind him as he closed the door. If he had, he would have heard the man say, “Do us a favor, and die with the rest, Daemon scum.” Before he locked the doors to the catacomb, and attempting to lock Mikajia in. He didn’t notice this either, simply focusing on how he would rip through the creatures and apparitions ahead of him. His eyes widened, mouth curling in a wicked grin, his pupils shifting to glow a bright crimson.

He hesitated no longer, crouching down and looking for his first target. As soon as he saw the shadow of a figure turn around a corner of one of the hallways spreading around him, he pounced. His legs tensed, before he shot forward, gaining full momentum before he unsheathed his dagger. Before the creature could respond, he had sliced the beast’s throat. Mikajia stopped and spun around, slamming the dagger into the chest of the beast, wrenching a howl from its jaws. Mikajia didn’t bother to take note of exactly what the creature was, too focused on killing for now.

Mikajia
Mikajia yanked the dagger free then stabbed it into the side of the beast’s head. He pulled the dagger out once more as the creature fell dead to the ground, turning to search for another creature to slay, his mind concerned with nothing else. It didn’t take long for him to find his next victim. Or the next, or the next. He was an absolute monster, an apex predator, zooming through the catacombs, rending all the beasts limb from limb. All the while, seeing nothing but one target after another. What he wasn’t seeing was that these creatures were in fact much more powerful than the previous creatures had been in the last cathedral.

In the other church’s catacombs, the strongest beast he had encountered had been a few ghouls, but that was it. He had been unbelievably disappointed at the lack of a challenge at the time. This time however, he couldn’t be more happy. But, at the same time, he also couldn’t really tell what was going on. He was at the complete mercy to his bloodlust. Unbeknownst to him, the Daemon blood coursing through his veins had sensed a worthy challenge in these catacombs. That coupled with his own inherent bloodlust, had completely taken over, and right now, he was nothing more than a crazed killing machine, slaughtering every single apparition and beast in sight without hesitation.

He had never felt so free or alive before. It was absolutely thrilling; his body coursing with a primal desire, coupled with an equally powerful sense of satisfaction, almost purring as he sliced the head off another creature. The head toppling before thudding heavily to the ground. Mikajia’s eyes and head steadily turned to gaze down another hall, sensing the power of a much stronger creature approaching to challenge him.

Mikajia
Mikajia felt the hairs on his arms and neck standing on end as goosebumps formed on his flesh. Not out of fear, but of excitement. The creature coming towards him was much more powerful than any of the others he had encountered in these catacombs so far. It dwarfed them several times in strength and power. He still couldn’t think properly, his body wholly moving on instinct still, and he was happy to let this continue. It was nice for once, to not have to think about his next action, or the possible counter of his foe. Those were useful things to keep in mind of course, but sometimes, simply acting on instinct gave you a massive advantage over your opponent.

The true advantage came when you were facing someone of equal or greater skill than you. Typically, when two skilled fighters clash, they think up their actions or counters based on how well they can read their opponent. However, when someone is acting entirely on instinct, and not thinking about their actions at all, they almost always have the advantage. However, there is also a downside to doing this while fighting a skilled opponent. If they can determine pretty quickly, what you’re doing, then they can still counter. But what’s worse, they could even set up a trap fairly easily, luring you into the trap with little effort because you won’t be focusing on it.

In this instance though, his instinct worked in his favor. The fight was still challenging, the most challenging one so far in fact. And Mikajia would not walk away completely unscathed like the last times. When he would be walking away from the corpse, Mikajia would be heavily bleeding from his left arm, his forehead, and his side. However, he would still be in his bloodlust state, so he would mostly be unaware of his injuries, simply making his way back to the entrance.

Mikajia
Once at the door, and realizing he had been locked in, it wouldn’t take too much power for him to send the doors flying off their hinges. A practically demented looking Mikajia would make his way into the church and corner the priest. He would inform the terrified priest of his success and demand his payment, with a hand gripped tightly over his throat. The couple dozen people in attendance screamed before fleeing from the church. While the priest gasped for air, he grabbed a pouch from around his belt and handed it to Mikajia.

He released his hold on the man then counted his money, insuring it was all there. Once he was sure he hadn’t been stiffed by the priest, he wished the man a good day and left. The priest shouted “Daemon filth!” At his back, but he didn’t care. The job was done, the priest’s trick to try and keep him trapped had utterly failed, and he had still had to pay Mikajia for his work. He was certainly intrigued by the priest’s last comment, though he didn’t show it. The man had called him a Daemon. That was certainly something he’d never been called before. And it might explain a few things, if it was actually true. So after leaving the church, Mikajia set out to determine if the priest’s accusations were misplaced or not. He had a few ideas of where he could start to find out the truth, a few acquaintances he had acquired during his time in Oak, completing his jobs. A few of them were some rather unsavory characters, but their skills in their respective departments were without a doubt, top notch. First things first though, he would head back to his loft to get cleaned up. And once he was ready, he would begin his search.
