Jolyne Atreides

This time the quest given was far more akin to what the Mage had expected good quests to be as gathering people for the guard was quite the worthy endeavor of someone striving to help the world. It seemed as though she would be meeting with the captain of the city guard himself in order to learn her exact orders on this recruitment drive she would undergo on this very day. It was luckily a nice winter day with a crisp breeze but otherwise sunny which prompted people to actually be outside of their domiciles thus ensuring she did not fall prey to a failure right off the bat. Instead with good weather behind her sails the Lich had high hopes for the success of her endeavor upon this day, it brought a smile to her face when her thoughts dwelled upon helping protect the common man. The average citizen would benefit directly from her actions this day and that was something that Jolyne Atreides truly strode for and why she had become a Mage in the first place. Bumping into Captain Devon during his rounds the Lich was filled in upon the details of whom she was to recruit, as they did not take in just anyone. Much to her delight the requirements seemed to be based upon the physical shape and willingness rather than past crimes, and so anyone who seemed to have actually turned over a new leaf was allowed to do so there. The moral nicety did much to sway the Mage who was now going to go about her quest with even more gusto in anticipation of helping out the future guards themselves. Such an idea brought joy to the skull of the woman who listened intently to the Captain as he finished talking and bid him a fare well before she set out about the park to search for recruits that met the physical standards of someone who was expected to defend the city.

Scanning the park for potential targets the lich had time to think to herself before engaging in conversation with anyone, and that allowed her to think on the prior experiences in her life and undeath thus far. It was peaceful to reflect from time to time, though it would not last too long as she would eventually have to break the silence in order to speak with others in hopes of fulfilling her deed for the day. The goal of her mission hinged on that social dynamic after all, and far be it from Jolyne to fumble something just because she did not understand the rules of the game. Instead she hunted down every single person who fit the bill and accosted them with a sonic assault that discharged her speech about the city guard and it's recruitment. In this method it was fast but not efficient and soon the woman rethought her strategy and tried a more even keeled approach netting a few results but not as many as she had hoped. Now past midday Jolyne absentmindedly thought about how she might have been hungry by now if she still had the organs to do so, while she could enjoy the flavor the compelling biological urge to add mass to herself in the act of mastication was a distant memory. Instead she was stuck with the pleasure of the food alone instead of cravings and longings when forced to go without, it was now an entirely positive concept to her. That thought kept her happy as she looked up from the sign up sheet that was a far shorter list than she would have enjoyed in concept. It was time to step up her game even further and with that spark in her step she set out to harass the new comers with her words about how the city guard needed their help. It was somewhat effective in netting a few but Jolyne figured that her standards were perhaps set a bit higher than the captains and began to scan the area for people who could become physically fit as well.

In this approach the names started pouring onto the page as some of the people there needed a simple outside motivation to find their drive to help out. The Lich mentally kicked herself for excluding them earlier as she found the quest becoming much easier for her and filling the list as the sun was dipping in the afternoon sky was a certainty at this point. The addresses were all filled out legibly alongside the names, none appeared to be gags and most were from the city with the rest being from the surrounding countryside. It seemed this time there was gonna be a wave of good that came from this quest and for that Jolyne Atreides felt satisfied and was rather grateful. The previous missions had been filled with helping most people who were a bit richer than the common citizen in the city and while none of the missions were immoral, it was not exactly why Jolyne had joined Fairy Tale in the first place. With a heavy heart though she knew after this mission it would be back to helping the rich. When she saw the numerous messages and missives for help solving interpersonal conflicts between nobles it gave her indigestion. The Lich was truly thinking back on the idea of hiding in the pond once more, after all if she could direct those big evil fish towards the insects that hurt the other insects was she actual evil in the end? She was beginning to think that it may be more evil to help the insects prey that were only safe thanks to the sacrifices of the other insects. The plant mage was reconsidering her place within the world, but that was a thought for another time and for now she would return to Captain Devon with the ledger in hand to give him it in exchange for her reward before going back to the room she rented in lieu of having a guild hall.
