Juni Anastos
Having to learn something new on the fly and without much guidance would put most people under pressure. Learning a skill or a spell usually took many tries or maybe one try for those fortunate few who were blessed with an ability to do so. It was, of course, unfortunate that Juni did not fall into the blessed category as she tried to steady her arm that she had kept up and pointing straight into the woods for hours. For whatever reason, she couldn’t control her mana enough to do what she had done not moments ago. Lowering her arm so it fell limply to her side, Juni couldn’t understand what exactly happened. Waking up this morning everything seemed fine, that was until she got startled by some small critter in her tub and shot a dark blast from her finger. It was an unwelcoming surprise that was for sure because her magic didn’t do that, she has never done that before. In order to make sure she wasn’t going crazy she tried to use her own magic and she had come to find nothing happened until another blast released from her finger and she nearly blasted her own head off. Juni didn’t really know what to do with this newfound power and the realization that something had changed within her. What she did grasp quickly was that she needed to get it under control and quickly if she didn’t want to accidentally kill herself or someone else.

Taking a swing from her canister full of water Juni straightened up before lifting her arm up enough so that when she pointed her finger outward into an “ L “ shape it would line up to her line of sight. She had been a healer for so long and that had come so naturally to her that trying to force her mana to do something new, something destructive was proving difficult. Taking several deep breaths she let her arm drop before quickly raising it again, her finger pointed toward a tree. She figured a non-moving object would be useful to start with and once she got the hang of it she could move on to moving targets. To her surprise a purple magic circle formed in front of her finger and a dark color bullet-shaped projectile fired from it and straight through the tree. This time around she was less surprised and more concerned. How could her magic change so drastically? It felt natural coming out as if she had been putting far too much thought into it before. “This is such bullshit. “ With her arm still up she wiggled her finger a bit, just a tiny bit, not even notice if someone didn’t have supervision and honed in on her little action. That action set off another purple magic circle and once again a dark bullet flew from her hand and into the first hole she made. She had to admit that she was a pretty good shot but she really needed to get comfortable with controlling this...Bullet magic? That kept coming from her hand or rather her finger. She could feel her mana deplete which each shot that went off and with each shot that did go off she could feel a bit more control, a bit more power coming from her finger.

The sun had begun to set slowly, with each phase of its slow descent she could feel the power of her shots growing stronger and stronger. Juni also learned what she could and what she couldn’t do with her bullets. To start she learned that she had a much greater range of fire than her previous magic. And though she had never had any magic that was offensive she could feel that each bullet she let fly was stronger than it should have been, made much more evident by the damage it was doing to the trees in the forest she was in. What she found very odd about this new magic was the lack of sound it made, sure it could be seen but if one didn’t see it, then it would spell doom for whoever was on the other end of her bullet. Smiling as she literally shot down a tree with the many bullets she peppered into it, a new feeling began to bubble up inside of her, one that she had been searching for but couldn’t place. It was power. She had come to terms that she was no longer a healer, she could change so much about herself and move on from this silly chapter in her life, where people were mindlessly trying to build her up as some sort of goddess. It was a joke, they were a joke, and she was tired of people she didn’t know or care about relying on her. With her mana nearly depleted she stopped shooting the bullets from her hand because what else could she do? This magic bestowed on her was something simple yet destructive. She could only shoot, there was no complicated mechanics behind it. Lowering her arm she got curious, she had only been using one hand, could she just use both of her hands at the same time? That would certainly get things moving in the right direction but first, she needed some moving targets. Having never shot anything before she knew it was going to take some time to get used to doing so.

When night fell Juni made her way back to town to get some rest. With all the practice she had down she was able to control whether or not a bullet came out of her finger which was good for her and everyone around her. The next morning rolled around quickly. She was pretty exhausted from forcing herself to control what was coming out of her fingers but now that she had gotten used to it, it was time for some target practice. Some moving target practice. Making her way back to the wooded area near the road that led into the town, Juni decided she was gonna go hunting. Hunting for bandits. Since yesterday she realized just how far her range was so she was sure that hiding in a tree and picking off some people who would otherwise wouldn’t even be missed would be great training, and she would be able to clean up the roads. Climbing one of the trees and hiding in the leaves she waited only a few moments before she spotted someone being hassled by a much larger group. Without hesitation she took aim at the group with her finger pointed at the tallest of the bunch. There was a lot of moving around from the group and even more noise. A purple magic symbol formed in front of her finger and as she steadied herself, following the movements of the man to get a better idea of the figure to try and predict where they’ll go next. It took seconds for her to let off a series of bullets into the group. Each one hitting a figure, some killing instantly while others only wounding. As the last bullet pierced its target Juni stopped her assault to see the group scattering, leaving the poor individual they were harassing all alone and on the ground. From where she sat perched high in the tree she could see the figures running in different directions. Juni wasn’t about to give them a chance to lick their wounds. Aiming her finger once more a purple magic circle formed and three bullets shot forward at their targets. She hit two figures and missed the last one, who was fortunate enough to go just out of her range.

This was proving too easy for her, she needed a target that wasn’t too predictable. Climbing down from the tree she didn’t even bother to check on the person who was being harassed. Juni instead went deeper into the forest until he spotted a squirrel. With her finger at the ready, she shot near it in order to spook it so it would run. That was the easy part as the squirrel began to dart out Juni’s sight. Without missing a beat she chased it down, over fallen trees, and through brooks. Every step of the way she let off a shot that she thought wouldn’t miss, but the squirrel proved to be quite a challenge as each shot hit a tree, a rock, or just missed in the air. At some point, she realized the squirrel was messing with her as it ran up a tree and out of her sight. She knew she wasn’t going to reach it, so she just shot up at the tree with no aiming or patience whatsoever. Each shot broke a branch or ripped through leaves until it something she couldn’t see but it fell all the same with a “ thump “ onto the grassy ground. Moving over to what she knew it was Juni could only smile as she placed a few more bullets into it. With her target down she went off to find a new one, one that wouldn’t climb a damn tree. It took her no time at all to find something else to hunt down as her eyes spotted a white rabbit. It was devouring some sort of greenery and in its gluttonous feasting it hadn't noticed her. Juni was well within shooting range of the little creature but she needed for it to run. Once again shooting toward the creature but not at it as she had done with the squirrel, Juni smiled to herself as she watched the little thing run for its life. Without wasting any time she was hot on its trail, shooting at every time it made an erratic jump in a different direction in order to get away from her. A few times it almost got away from her, she could feel her mana depleting with every shot and she had to hold off on shooting every now and again to recharge. But at no point did she stop chasing until a well placed and her last shot pierced the little bunny, taking it down and out. It was time to call it a night as with that bullet she hardly had any mana to do much more but drag her body back to the guild base. In two days she did what she thought she couldn’t but she would need more training, training from someone else…
