After what happened during the last mission, Kaz was keeping a keen eye on the happenings out at sea and around both the docks and the pier. A mystery man had appeared and seemed to be the source of the attacks. Whoever it was, disappeared back into the coves.

Search vessels were sent out to check out the area with no luck. The man had simply vanished. In light of that Ka increased patrols around the area and wanted word of any suspicious activity. The events had been occurring on both a large and small scale. The wind mage was one of the few in his guild to be able to handle a major threat so he stood ready and kept himself open to respond to the call whenever it came.

As a result for the past few days, Kaz made his way down to the docks and set up shop at a local cafe that overlooked the sea. He wanted to be ground zero for anything that would happen.

He sat in the small cafe just as he did the day before. A cup of steaming tea on the table in front of him. His eyes moving from starring out of the sea to closing as he sipped the tea while looking through some paperwork. A pile of documents was piled on the table. Work that he had brought with himself. In case of an emergency, he could leave it securely with the owner of the shop.

The wind was warm today and almost nurturing. it blew the signs of the stores to gently sway back and forth. Laughter washed over the docks as children rushed by. A few fishermen grumbled at them to stay out of the way then quickly smiled at the jovial nature of youth. The boats were speckled out at sea with men standing on the edges with fishing lines cast out. Others sailed out deeper to cast nets for tuna.

A man ran up the dock pushing by the other fisherman. He leaped over two of the kids that were running carelessly about. He landed with a few tumbling steps to find his balance again. A merchant's stall rolled in his way and he careened toward it. His shoulder nicked off the side, narrowly avoiding the collision. It sent him spinning and in danger of losing his footing once more. He fell to the ground and caught himself with one hand and pushed himself back up to his feet.

Finally, the man reached the cafe that the wind mage sat at. He scrambled into the doorway. The waiter met him at the door but the man whizzed by without a word. Leaving the waiter standing with his mouth open and only the beginnings of a syllable unfulfilled, hanging in the air.

The man rushed up the stairs and pulled out the chair opposite the wind mage. The chair's wooden legs skidded on the ground before resting in the worn in grooves in the floor. The man's face was laced with fear. Kaz set the teacup down and moved it to the side of the table. The wind mage brought his hands up and opened his mouth to ask what was going on. Before anything came out the fisherman interrupted,

"Kazimir. We have a situation. The men encountered another problem out there. Its the fish again and strange reports surrounding an island." The wind mage stood up and pushed in his chair, "Take me there," he said with certainty.

The fisherman led the mage out of the cafe and down the sloping hill into the docks. Nothing was out of place and no one was acting any differently. News hadn't spread to the general public yet and the fewer people that knew the better it would be for all of them involved. The fisherman kept looking back to check if Kaz was running with him, which without question, Kaz was keeping stride.

Once they were at the dock the fisherman turned around to inform Kaz that the boat was already ready for him to take out. This time the fishermen wanted to stand alongside the wind mage. The boat was much bigger than the one he used last time. It was populated with the crew, that had spears and harpoons in their hands. Nets lined the deck and lifeboats hung on the sides. The lifeboats were rickety and the wood was a tad warped, but it didn't damper their resolve to face the threat.

The wind mage wanted to protest but he couldn't find it within him. With a smile, he nodded and told them that it was appreciated but to also make sure they were safe. The people wanted to make sure their land was safe and they could combat the threats that faced them. So then and there he invited them all to join the coast guard.

The fisherman looked back and forth at one another. Seeing their own resolve and determination. They rose their hands and weapons in the air with a rambunctious yell. The howl that would start their new life as protectors of the sea and coast. Kaz boarded the ship and headed for the deck. "Well then....welcome to the coast guard. We sail to meet our threat,"he said as he pointed out into the sea. The man that had brought him there took out a map and pointed to the island. The man in charge of the boat took the helm and the crew readied the ship. With a final Hollar, the boat was off. The men fiddled with their weapons, anxious to see what it was they would encounter out in the wild.

Kaz's eyes scanned the waters for what may attack them. He would not be surprised again and things seemed to attack from below frequently.

A beast could arrive at any moment. The men knew it too. They peered over the sides as the ship maneuvered through the waters, further and further away from the coastline. But they would not be alone for long. Three nearby vessels sailed out to join them at their flanks. They saw the wind mage standing on the deck and given his previous voyages out here, they all understood where they were headed. Alongside them came a warship from the guilds fleet. Now they had a strong unit to contend with whatever would happen to come their way.

Kaz nodded at the group that had formed on the water. They all bolstered the confidence of one another. The wind mage hit his fist together and glared at the island ahead of them. All the boats flowed beside each other in unison. They pressed onward to face the threat.

With a strong force around them, it seemed they would be unstoppable, but Kaz knew things could change in the blink of an eye. And that's exactly what happened. In the distance a small figure of a man appeared, standing on top of a large boulder on the bluff of the island. Kaz assumed it had to be the same man. He rose his hand to slow the armada down and waited to see what would happen next. The figure on the island rose both their hands as well. Kaz discerned a faint magic circle appearing around the man's feet.

A waterfall sprang to life seemingly out of thin air and rushed down from where the man stood and cascaded into the sea. Once the water met the sea, darkness sprouted from the man and oozed out into the magically produced water, slithering its way down the waterfall and into the sea. As it pooled at the bottom like a dark well in the sea, a wave started to form of darkness and water.

From the depths of the water came another whirlpool like the one he had seen before. This time giant man-sized creatures emerged with the upper body of a man and the lower body of a snake. Their torsos were bulky and rippled with muscles. They carried spears and hatred in their hearts. The beings rushed across the water faster than a great white, going in for the kill. Their spears were pointed forward at the group. They hissed and swerved left and right in the white like streaks of lightning coming for them.

Kaz lowered his hand and the fleet opened fire on the creatures. Harpoons and magic rained down on the waters. Some of the beings took head-on collisions and vanished in a plum of darkness that inked on the surface of the water. The others frantically dodged attack after attack. The crew loaded their weapons once more to launch another attack against the creatures.

Before they could finish, the creatures stabbed into the sides of the boat. Their spears pierced small holes, barely enough to even worry about sinking. The creatures hissed in furious anger and glared up at the decks of the ships. They dove beneath the surface giving a moment of calm. But it was one with hearts beating fast and sweat dripping down from every man's brow.

Suddenly they emerged from the deep and burst from the water like geysers. The creatures landed on the ships, more numerous than they could count. Their snake-like bodies held their torsos upright like a cobra ready to spit venom. Only the poison was barbed spears. The jabbed them forward at the sailors and knights.

Blood spilled out onto the deck and mixed with the water, washing it off the sides. men collapsed with shouts of pain. Knees hit the hard wooden planks of the ships. Kaz whirled around as the crew reached for anything to use as a weapon. The knights unsheathed swords and ready spells.

Kaz ran to the aid of his allies. A creature swiped its spear at the wind mage. He ducked beneath it, falling to his knees and using the momentum to slide across the boat and beyond the creature. He jumped back to his feet and another spear from a different creature darted forward at his torso. Using the motion of jumping up, he kicked his foot down and sent himself flying into the air with a gust of wind. He arched over the spear and the creature, landing on the other side of it.

He landed with one hand on the deck and one knee. His right hand came up over his left shoulder and sent a storm of window blasting outward to collide with the creature. The wind dug into its scaley skin and sent it soaring of the side of the boat.

Another creature slithered over to meet the mage. Its fangs were showing and its two clawed hands aimed its spear-like a knight holding a lance ready to plunge it into Kaz's heart. The wind mage rolled left and swiped his hand. A tornado sprang to life and the small distance between them. As that wind engulfed the creature, Kaz turned his head towards the first one he evaded and with a deep breath, he exhaled a vacuum shell of wind that burst on the being's body and sent it off the side with its brethren.

The one that had charged like a knight, flopped to the floor with wind scars littered around its body. Kaz rushed to the his fallen allies, "Hang in there. Get this man below deck," he shouted for the others to take him. Kaz stood up and looked around to see the other vessels in just as rough shape. They were boarded and attacked.

The water churned to a dark shadow beneath the ships. Kaz ran to the edge of his nad dashed off to the next vessel.

He landed on the cabin of the fishing vessel. The crew blocked and deflected the spear strikes the best that they could but the enemy was pushing them all together toward the bow of the ship. The crewmen were huddling together in the most defensive way they could. The spear strikes became more rapid as the creatures felt their next meal coming soon. Darkness dripped from their mouths onto the ship with each encroaching inch.

Kaz dashed from the top of the cabin and ripped a tornado into the sea creatures, trailing it with him like an actual tornado moving across the land. The beasts howled in pain and some jumped from the boat into the waters below. Kaz ended the burst of wind before it got to the men and nodded at them. A few creatures were left on the ship but the reinvigorated crew charged them and pushed them back.

Kaz flew out over the waters from ship to ship bringing a fury of wind down upon the enemy. Twin tornados came from his hands and chased after the creatures. Some dove into the sea to avoid it and others fell prey to the damaging winds. The crew cheered and fought back despite the friends that had met an untimely end.

The mage came upon the final boat and blasted the same torrent of wind at it. This time the creatures huddled together in the epicenter of the storm. The wind vanished revealing an, even more, savage-looking creature. The other bodies of the creatures melded in with one. Their bodies were pulled in with pools of darkness. Like they swam into one another, until only one remained, twice the size of the others.

Kaz sent another gust of wind and the serpent spun its spear and mitigated the blast. The wind hit the spinning spear and halted, sending gusts out in all directions. The serpent-like creature sprung upward, powerful enough to reach the mage.

The serpent flew at him with vengeance. Kaz dashed to the side, moving to safety. He pulled his hands back for the next attack, thinking the snake would fall back to the water. But, the serpent flicked its tail and a web of darkness appeared beneath it that carried it forward, The darkness poured out instantly and reached the sea like a waterfall, keeping the beast up.

The serpent surged forward at the wind mage. Kaz flipped to the side avoiding the strike. The creature may have given itself a moment, but that was all. it couldn't maintain that height and fell down fifteen meters to hover above the water. As it fell Kaz roared and send a shell of wind.

It exploded on the creature, barely shaking the beast. Around the shell of wind, the creature stabbed its spear at Kaz and sent dozens of tendrils made of darkness. The tendrils wrapped around Kaz and yanked him downward. The serpent flashed forward and drove its spear into Kaz's arm. The wind mage yelled and gripped his hands, that were bound by the darkness. The serpent loomed over him with mal-intent. Its jaws opened wide enough to swallow Kaz's whole head.

A fatal mistake. The wind mage took a quick breath and blew a shell into the creature's mouth. The blast erupted, hitting them both. The creature recoiled and its dark tendrils released the wind mage. Kaz dashed back and new he needed something big. The men were still under attack as well. Thrusting both hands forward, he erupted in a flurry of phoenix feathers that struck every evil being in 100 meters. The attack left the wind mage in ashes that rematerialized into his body. The attack left the sea creatures gone and so was the man on the island. It was a hard-fought battle but the war was far from over. They would need to regroup and see the island. But today's battle was over at least.
