Kenzo was not a superstitious person. As a matter of fact, he had never believed in anything that what people might consider “out of this world”. However, he had to admit that the concept “out of this world” had come to completely change ever since he arrived at Fiore. The country of mages and powerful wizards, renown throughout the whole continent had a very loose definition of the otherworldly. Things that one would consider to be only found in myths and tales were commonplace in Fiore. Perhaps it was due to the magic, or perhaps it was due to the whole series of events that had happened ever since he had met that old crone in the streets of Crocus around a year before. Kenzo’s life had taken a 360 degree turn after that fateful day.

It had started completely inconspicuous, there was nothing out of the ordinary for him, or at least that was what he remembered. The only thing that stood out in his mind now that he thought back, was that the sun shone strongly, more so than most of the days. Maybe that was indeed a signal, or maybe it was simple coincidence. Kenzo had not thought back again ever since his experience that day, but the longer he recollected his memories of how it started, he began noticing little by little the signs that something big was going to happen. Of course, as he lived through the day, he didn’t think anything special about them. Now that he took another glance, all of them perfectly lined up. To begin with, Kenzo had been unable to sleep comfortably that day. He was not someone with a really active mind at nights, so it was rare of him to have a dream, even rarer for him to remember about it the next day.

However, that morning he had woken up drenched in sweat. He had been had a dream of a memory from his time back in Joya. He was tumbled in the forest, sharing one of the most precious memories he had with a Joyan woman. For some reason, Kenzo relieved the conversation they had that day as the final rays of the sun shone in the sky. It was a talk about the day walkers. Nothing more than a fairy tale in the mercenary’s eyes at the moment, but all too real for him now. It was a nice memory. One that he didn’t exactly want to remember. It was still too painful for him to think about it. There were some things that he still needed to work with. It had been a little over a year since he had arrived at Fiore after escaping the massacre at his mercenary band’s camp in Joya. His partners and comrades in arms had all perished that day and yet, the blue haired man still refused to let them go. He felt as if letting go of his grief and pain would mean that they would forever disappear. There was no way he was going to allow it. Not yet at least. They were still his family. His home.

Nevertheless, Kenzo had at least found a new place to call home now. It was quite comfortable, and he had come to bond deeply with some of the members of the new guild that he belonged to. Still, it couldn’t take the place of his previous comrades. It was a step forward at least, even if only a small one for the moment. As he woke up inside his room that morning, Kenzo didn’t imagine the day that awaited him.

There was not much for the blue haired warrior to do that Saturday. Kenzo had taken a long sleep and was planning on goofing around town for the rest of the day. For the last couple of weeks, the merc had been travelling all around the country taking jobs and quests from all sorts of different people. Now that he was in Oak, he figured it would be a good idea to take a stroll around the city and get to know it better. It was his new home after all, he wanted to get acquainted with more locals and perhaps ask for some food and drinking recommendations around.

Waking up at the late morning, Kenzo took a light breakfast before hitting the streets. The sound of the river’s stream crashing against the stone fortress that was Advent World’s guildhall was very soothing. He could spend hours and hours looking at Oak from one of the many balconies the impressive construction had. The Joyan style architecture, as well as the fresh currents of air that commonly blew past had made it become one of his favorite spots. He enjoyed staying there at night more though. There was something about how the dim lights of the streets of Oak contrasting with the starry skies that could make Kenzo lose himself in a trance as he observed everything from afar. As he brushed past the balcony that hanged above the exit of the building, Kenzo took one last glance at the city. A smile appeared in his face. ”This place is so sick.” Thinking out loud, the warrior made his way to the streets without wasting any more time. The weather was quite pleasant. As he leisurely made his way through every nook and cranny of the streets of Oak, Kenzo discovered some very interesting things.

A food stall hidden within a dark alleyway, a local brewery that was hidden under the guise of a herbs shop but in reality made some kickass beer, an arcade inside an otherwise seemingly abandoned construction. Oak was a bag full of surprises. However, the biggest of all came when he passed right next to the Oakland Church. There was a commotion of people outside the place, murmuring and looking in distress at the vacated building. Kenzo’s interest was piqued instantly, so he approached a priest that held a worried face.

”Hey! Everything cool?” Kenzo rose his voice, trying to stand out from the crowd. Taking a look around, the priest saw the advent world swordsman approaching. His expression changed to one of relief instantly after. ”Aaah praised be Illumin! You are part of Advent World right? Please help us sir!” It was a weird feeling for Kenzo. The more jobs he completed the more people started recognizing him in the streets. He was not used to it, but he was sure it had to do with the fact that he was actively taking quest after quest.

After a short conversation, the priest briefed Kenzo about the situation. Apparently ever since the disappearance of Phantom Lord, there had been rumors about menacing spirits lurking under the grand church of Oak. Apparently, they had been sealed belowground by the dark mages of the guild but were now released with their absence. The priest asked Kenzo to help them get rid of them. With a confident smile, the swordsman simply muttered a single word. ”Sure.” He had some free time that day after all.

Without wasting time, the mercenary approached the spirits and investigated what it was all about. As he suspected, most of them simply held ties to the world still and just wanted to be listened. A couple of hours later, the church was rid of spirits and Kenzo happily returned to the guildhall with a sack full of jewels.
