A mercenary and a pirate captain entered a dimly lit tent in an unnamed beach near Port Hargeon. It was a hidden place, far away from the eyes of the law. The only reason Kenzo had even managed to find the cove where a fierce crew of pirates now hurriedly prepared to set sail was thanks to the map he had been provided by Reagan Hullston, one of the most notorious smugglers in the south of Fiore. Kenzo had decided to complete a quest for him. What he didn’t expect, was that his client’s client would now offer him a new job. He was asked by Reagan to collect some goods from Pirate Balthazar Barbossa, the man that now stood before him. The current development of events had been rather interesting to say the least. As he presented himself and greeted the captain previously, the man seemed to hold a certain interest in Kenzo from the get go. What he wanted, was still a mystery. However, Kenzo knew that there was something brewing which he was unaware of. The filling had already travelled through every vein of his body. He couldn’t explain it, but there was a rush of emotion flowing through him. The only way the young swordsman could put it: he had stumbled upon an adventure. He wouldn’t understand until later that day. But this adventure would lead him to the realms of myths and legends.

“Please take a sit boy. I’ll explain everything to you now.” The older pirate captain took a seat in one end of a large wooden desk. The piece of furniture was lavishly decorated and ornated. Kenzo could tell from a glance that it was made of the finest of materials, but it didn’t surprise him in the least. The merc had heard of the captain’s reputation before after all. He was one of the most feared and respected pirates in the seas. What he wanted from him though, was still a mystery.

”I’ve heard about you boy. They say that you are someone worth their weight in gold. Zehaha I’m dying to see if that’s true.” Kenzo smiled at the old sea dog’s remark. He knew he was starting to make a name for himself through Fiore. However, he was flattered that the captain had heard about him. ”To what do I owe the honor of you hearing that?” Kenzo smiled as he playfully answered at the captain. He knew there was something he wanted to offer him, a proposal from which both of them would benefit greatly. ”Word says you helped the navy crush the John Long pirates. They are by no means a bunch of no ones if I might say so. Some at the sea would go as far as call them one of the greatest crews of the generation.” Balthazar paused for a moment to let Kenzo catch on to what he was saying. There was no way Kenzo had forgotten. A couple of weeks before he had helped the navy crush a pirate crew off the coasts of Hargeon. He nodded to let the man know he was on the same page. ”However, the interesting thing comes from the tales that reached me of the young blue haired swordsman that killed John Long himself. Zehaha!! They say it is indistinct to you if it is a pirate or a navy captain as long as there is good coin in between!!! Zehaha… I sure like a man like you son.” The old captain laughed as he passed Kenzo a glass full of liquor. The blue haired mercenary smiled at Barbossa’s words. ”You have heard correctly old man.” Kenzo confidently sat in the chair he was given. His whole body tingled with excitement, but he tried to hide it. He was dying to know what the pirate’s proposal was. However, he would never that out for him to figure. A flawless poker face was part of a successful negotiation. ”Let me tell you about an interesting thing then…”

Balthazar took out of his pocket a ragged piece of parchment. From the looks of it, it was old goat hide with some inscriptions written on it.

“Have you heard of Joya’s Divine Blade?”

Despite Kenzo’s best efforts, his eyes widened at the words the pirate captain spoke. ”H-How??”

Balthazar immediately burst into laughter after seeing the young male’s expression.
”Zehaha!!! I knew it from the moment I saw you! I was sure a swordsman as you would know about it.” The old man took a pause as he struck his beard. ”According to legend, the gods of creation forged a blade in the fires of one of the stars in the sky, imbuing it with their divine powers. It is a blade that does not follow the laws of this world and is capable of rendering reality useless.” Kenzo listed the pirate’s words attentively. It was a legend he knew all too well. He was familiar with how the story followed, but yet remained in silence to hear the captain continue. ”The tales speak of it being gifted to mankind to seal away evil. As the legends speak, the founder of Joya was the first to inherit this blade and vanquish the invaders from the void. Those that know the country’s history know that he would come to be known as the founder of the First Joyan dynasty.” Kenzo took a sip of his glass as he heard the man speak. ”A couple of centuries ago the blade was stolen by the King of Thieves from the imperial treasury, disappearing without a trace in the darkness of night. The blade was lost forever, leaving doubt of even its existence…” A sinister grin appeared in the captain’s face, giving him a menacing appearance. ”Or at least, that was until now…”

A couple of hours had gone by. Kenzo and Balthazar’s talk had ended with a stretch of hands and the promise of riches. The mercenary was unsure if what the man had told him was true or not. However, only an idiot would let the opportunity to find out go away. According to the pirate captain, a pirate crew had stumbled upon one of the legendary hideouts of the king of thieves at the sea. After the death of dozens of crewmembers at the hands of traps and magic, the pirates were able to reach the treasure room at last. If word was to be believed, the vessel in which they travelled would now be transporting the blade of myth. Balthazar Barbossa was not letting a group of unknown pirates be the ones to cash in and receive the riches and glory from such a legendary treasure.

The pirates held in their possession a mole inside the enemy crew. He had detailed the time and course of their voyage. As the black flag rose from the mast, captain Balthazar, his crew and Kenzo set sail to intercept them at the high seas.

The weather turned for the worse. The clear skies were replaced with grey and black clouds and the sounds of thunder. Rain started pouring as the seas blackened and turned rough. Amidst the almost deafening sound of the storm, the captain’s screaming voice was heard by all. ”Adjust the course! Lift the sails you useless rats! Today the Barbossa Pirates shall pass to history! We’ll steal a legend for ourselves!!! Zeeeehaha!!!” Kenzo observed the mayhem unfold before his eyes in slow motion. He had decided to join the pirates for their expedition at sea. Captain Balthazar offered a part of the loot in exchange for his fighting ability. The merc immediately accepted and boarded the ship. Now, his heartbeat was higher than ever.

He couldn’t remember a time when he felt his heart was going to burst out of his chest. However, there was no denying that he was excited. A rush of adrenaline cursed through his body. Even if he tried to calm himself and convince his brain that it would most likely end in a misunderstanding or a lie, part of him wanted to believe. Perhaps this whole ordeal would turn to be true?

In the eye of the storm the crew caught up with their prey. The fighting was fierce. Both sides opened fire amidst the roars of thunder and cannons. Splinters and pieces of wood were torn apart from the sides of both ships as they circled one another. Even Poseidon himself had decided to oversee the showdown. A whirlpool formed between both vessels. Caught in its current, both ships found themselves unable to escape. This would truly be a duel to the death. Only one of them would leave the place that day.

Gunpowder, sparks, fire, death. It was a sight all too familiar to the Bellan mercenary. Both crews fought with their lives on the line, killing and slashing each other in a waltz of death. The deck of the enemy ship had been bathed in blood. As the minutes went by, it also began pouring out of the ship, soaking the sea in drops of red. Kenzo found himself in the thick of the fight. He had already lost count of how many people he had killed so far. However, he was not tired. A sinister smile filled his lips, blood drenching him from head to toe. With each strike and each slash, the male felt power cursing through his body. The curse on his stomach demanded him for more sacrifice.

”Pl-please!! PLEASE LET ME GO!!! I’ll give you the treasure and everything you want! Just s-spare m- Aaaghh!” The enemy captain’s plea was crushed under the strength of Kenzo’s grip. Grabbing him by the throat, the mercenary lifted the man to the air as he saw his life leave his body. He didn’t have time for sympathy. The treasure was just before his eyes. A jade box stood motionless atop the now deceased captain’s desk. The bloodied hands of the mercenary stained the green jade as he opened it to reveal its insides.

As he observed its interior, his smile grew wider as an ominous aura surrounded the Advent World warrior. ”So myths do exist…” As he took it out of the container and unsheathe it, the environment turned grim. Kenzo’s eyes lit up and glowed in the darkness of the captain’s chamber. The sounds of the battle outside would soon become silent. Everything would fade to black…

The male barely made it to the shore. He was the only survivor from the battle. Kenzo didn’t care for what he had just done. He was a mercenary after all. All of his life he had believed in the law of the strongest. Those that didn’t make it were simply unlucky enough to have crossed paths with him. He dragged himself through the beach as he wiped off the last stains of Captain Balthazar Barbossa’s blood off the blade. The poor man and his crew had found their end at his own hands. Still, his mind was at piece. After all, killing and stealing from pirates couldn’t possibly be evil. Right?
