Wow, Ice Fishing. This truly was the peak of all kinds of fishing. Whoever thought of the ability to take fishing, but then make it even worse truly had something special up in their noggin of their's. Still though, Christian couldn't help but think that perhaps that was the intention. Maybe it was just super annoying and completely dumb was because it was meant to allow people to strengthen themselves, and perhaps improve upon their own endurance.

Nah, it was just stupid.

Christian sighed, as he would carve out a small bit of ice to make a hole in the frozen part of the river. The sheet of ice should be enough to sustain him, and maybe another person or two, provided they were light enough.

He cast in his fishing rod, with the bait, into the small hole, as he would stand on the ice and just... wait. Right, that was a part of fishing, ice or not. You kinda just waited, right? Christian guessed he liked the outdoors and all, as well as fishing, but... he couldn't say the same about ice fishing, that was for sure. This was certainly his least favorite variant of fishing.

Whistling a song to himself to keep himself busy in the cold, Christian wondered if perhaps anyone would stop by and meet him while he was ice fishing. That was kinda wishful thinking, considering that most people wouldn't be walking along the river at this time of year, but ya never know. Christian had met people in stranger circumstances than this, after all.

Ice Fishing was not in fact like Sand Fishing there was no fish that swam through the ice, instead they just had to cut holes through it to get to the fish below. It was thus Jolyne concluded that Ice Fishing was in fact Fishing but just with extra steps. While this could be useful for conditioning strength or endurance being from Deserette and still not being quite adjusted made her question why she thought this might be a good idea.

Oh someone was there anyways Jolyne thought to herself as she saw a man whistling to himself on the ice, it was funny though he just was using a regular fishing rod surely he knew that this was supposed to be done with multiple tip ups right? Had he not asked before attempting, perhaps being from this culture and not having known sooner was some point of shame Jolyne knew not of? Perhaps, but being a friendly person was just too big of a draw to stop her.

"Hello sir, did you know it would be more efficient to cut multiple holes and use tip ups instead?" Jolyne asked from her bundled up self with her long blue overcoat and her smile both worn proudly today. Perhaps sharing her knowledge of Ice Fishing would be more fun than the actual act itself the Atreides woman thought as she closed the gap toward the man but not daring to step on the ice with him. She was a bit too big for that with the likewise large man already standing on it, it was times like these that Jolyne wished she wasn't quite so tall.

While participant in the art of Ice Fishing, Zane was startled by the sudden voice of a nearby woman who seemed to be knowledgeable in the art of ice fishing. After regaining his composure from being scared half to death by her voice, he spoke. "Well, I, er..." he was a bit emberassed, as to tell the truth he had no idea what the hell a tip up was. Perhaps he just wasn't as good of a fisherman as he though. But then, Zane got a great idea. This girl could help him! He just had to put on his world famous, award winning puppy dog eyes and ask her to help, then he was sure he would be able to catch a nice fish, right?

Putting on his best eyes to make someone warm up in this harsh cold, Zane was sure that this master "plan" would end up working. And if it didn't well.. he didn't like ice fishing that much in the end of it all anyways. Here went nothing, hopefully it would work

"Well, I don't really know how to ice fish. Do you think you could teach me how to, kind, beautiful young woman?" he said. Perhaps it was weird for someone that looked as young as him to say that, but in reality he was in his late 20's, so he didn't think too much of calling someone a "young woman" despite looking rather young himself. That's what formerly being an elf does to you, he supposed.

The younger looking man stuttered after he started speaking the first time before falling silent. To Jolyne it looked as though he was steeling himself for what was to come next. She cocked her head to the side as she waited for the man to continue, which when he did he tried to flatter her and asked for her help.

"I could help, my name is Jolyne what is yours?" Jolyne asked curiously as she dug about in her overcoat. The thick navy blue coat protected her from the wind and elements well but it was cumbersome for getting things out of it's many pockets. While it took her a while she soon produced a couple tip-ups and casually tossed them the thirty feet directly to Christian's right hand as if it were nothing. "Those are tip-ups, drill a couple more holes. I would join you on the ice but I am close to two hundred pounds and the ice is not thick enough for the both of us right now. Bend the metal flags back when you bait them and then wait while looking for them. When the flag pops up, a fish is on the line" Jolyne repeated the words of the instructor that she had been to the day before in preparation for the ice fishing.

Jolyne was always a helpful person but today she had a bit of a nefarious motive as well, for you see she was plotting on asking the man for one of the fish that he caught that day. It was the perfect crime. Jolyne had to stop herself from wringing her hands together as she thought about it.

"My name is Christian." Stumbling to catch the tip ups he had been thrown, Christian almost dropped one before eventually being able to catch them all. Geez, that quite the throw... it seemed as though he'd have to do most of it himself, considering the woman seemed to think that she was too heavy for the ice. That was alright, he didn't mind having to do it on his own. If he let the girl do it for him, he probably wouldn't be learning much about this anyways. Not that he ever wanted to do it again after this, but still.

Following the girls instruction, Christian seemed to have a setup that was a little crude, but still very functional. He wondered why the girls decided to help him, even lending him all that. Was it really because he was so charming? Christian considered ulterior motives that the woman could have, but he shrugged it off and just decided that it was best to leave it at his charm doing all the work. That seemed like a much better outcome, and it helped his self-esteem a bit, even if it was all in his head.

Christian kept a close eye on the flags, with nothing quite yet. Sighing, he wanted to turn back to the girl as he spoke, but he knew that knowing his luck he would probably miss a fish that way. Small talk was a good idea when fishing, as he didn't have anything else to do except to go in loops of thoughts in his head like he usually did and all. Christian spoke louder than normal as his words were going in a different direction than they properly should, talking to the girl with his back facing her as he intently kept an eye on the flag. "Jolyne, right? You in a guild or anything?" Christian asked.

"I'm a Rune Knight, we are tasked with helping people especially ones that look so cute trying to Ice Fish" Jolyne stuck her tongue out slightly at this mocking Christian in a fun manner. He had done rather well for setting up the tip ups and making holes for a first timer but as he did so Jolyne could not help but wonder if he was nervous. This suspicion was considered valid by her when he had his back turned asking the question, as such she decided to slip in that he looked cute. If she was lucky she could fluster the man as well, a much better outcome than just ice fishing.

Fun and a fish for a day? Jolyne thought that was worth it but then she got distracted as a flag went up on the ice sheet Christian Zane was standing upon. The stark red flag stuck out on the ice blue and Jolyne was certain the man had seen it before her but her nature forced her to shout;

"There's one Christian, are you in a guild as well? Been meeting too many guildless mages these days and since you don't know ice fishing in these parts you must know magic" Jolyne joked as she had been in Orchidia for a little bit now and as such had learned about their pride in outdoor sportsmanship or intelligence. If Jolyne would have to guess though Christian was probably not from Orchidia at all.

"Why don't you tell me about yourself fisherman?" Jolyne asked this after her first question as a follow up to it waiting for his answer before asking.

Before Zane could answer the question, the ice exclusively around him cracked and shattered, bringing him down into the water and through the river. Thankfully, he stopped after not too long, but he was cold and shivering. He would be able to make it back to town, but he had a flu for several days after. He couldn't help but wonder if he would want to ice fish again. The girl he met seemed nice, but nah. It wasn't worth it. Not only was it cold, but it was boring, weird, unfun and unbalanced. He would never recommend it to his friends, and hopefully no friend of his would either.
