While Lacie wasn’t too eager to join her organization when Michelle extended an invitation, she didn’t seem completely averse to it either. So, hoping that there was still a chance she could be convinced, the assassin offered to work with her for a few days to get acquainted better. This way, she can make an impression before Lacie made a decision, and also keep an eye on her at the same time. The last thing she wanted was for the girl to abscond and then chase her through the continent.

Having decided that they would start a quest together the next morning, Michelle suggested they meet at the town’s bulletin board just before sunrise so that they don’t lose all the good ones and end up with something ridiculous like that one with the crazy doctor. Like every day, she woke up at four in the morning, stretched and trained for a bit, took a shower, and dressed up in her routine clothing, ready to go. She walked to the town’s centre and found a dark-haired broody looking man pinning a flier to the board. He looked like the no-nonsense kind and Michelle thought she would listen to his offer. “What have you got there?” she asked, approaching him from behind. The man looked at her from head to toe, sizing her up. She was used to it by now; there were only two ways people looked at women around here. One to see if they can bed her, and the second to see if she can wield a weapon. This one seemed like the second sort. The assassin said nothing and left him to come to a conclusion himself. Luckily, he decided to give her a shot.

“So… We have some masons working on fixing our wall. And one of them has been ‘talking’ about us. I want you to find out who,” he said, handing her the flier. Michelle saw the address and noticed that it was the famous Castle Phantasm. With her eyes wide, she looked up to see if this man was part of the Phantasm family; but by then he had already walked away from her. Michelle smirked, pocketed the flier and waited for Lacie to arrive before they could go get the job done.

Because Lacie didn't want to be alone, friends was a bit of a strong word but she needed support. One of the reasons she said no to the organisation was because she had no idea how it worked and she didn't want to step in a trap immediately but she still agreed to work together with Michelle on jobs. The only thing that Lacie didn't like was how early Michelle wanted to start, before sunrise? So she had gone to bed early, she was still a silly human, without a soul that is but that meant she hated waking up in the early morning. 8 o'clock was pretty okay but before sunrise!

She looked very grumpy, her hair in a messy bun and she walked towards the town bulletin board, staring at Michelle who was already engaged in a conversation with someone; who even wanted to hear people talk this early in the morning. She waited a little away and let Michelle get the job, because she had seen him holding on to a folder and she walked over when the man disappeared, "Morning." she said with a grumpy tone, showing she absolutely didn't agree. She was huddled in her fur coat because this early in the morning was cold, "What do we need to do?" She wasn't looking forward to jobs with magic as she still had not trained her new ability, she wondered if she should ask Michelle about that as well but the doctor who fixed the malfunctioning lacrima, or well her ill body, said she should keep her mouth shut. Enough danger for herself but being a Dragon Slayer was dangerous as well, people would hunt her to get her power.

Not long after the Phantasm man walked away, Michelle saw Lacie walk towards her. Her demeanour and the grumpy ‘morning’ was clue enough for the assassin to understand she wasn’t a morning person. “Good morning!” she said, smirking. “Well… Better grumpy than a shitty job,” she added, pulling the flier out of her pocket and giving it to Lacie. “I’m sure you’ve heard of the Phantasm family. Some mason guy has been blabbing around and we are supposed to find out who,” she said, beginning to walk towards the castle and hoping Lacie would keep up. The walk to the castle was mostly peaceful as it was quite early in the morning. The sun had just shown itself fully and Michelle squinted as the warm rays shone upon her eyes.

“Got any ideas on how we are going to get in?” she asked, as they entered the castle street. Given her way, Michelle would probably just sneak in, hide someplace from where she can overhear conversations and then make the jump on the man who was snitching around. But she wanted to hear Lacie’s idea. While her master might think getting a dragon slayer aboard was a good idea, she wanted to make sure if the girl had it in her to take a life. These silly missions may not reveal that conviction, but it’s a start. Once they reach the castle, Michelle would wait for Lacie’s suggestion and would follow her lead.

Lacie looked away from Michelle her over happiness moment and she rolled her eyes, "Yeah of course." she said not all too happy about it but well she was right, she wanted to have a good job anyway. "Don't get me wrong, but can't they do that themselves? If they already figured out someone is doing it, shouldn't be that hard." she shook her head, "I won't deny doing this job, it sounds simple enough and they give a reward." She pointed at that section and flashed Michelle a smile before her new friend would get her wrong.

Now that the sun was getting up and that they were walking to the castle, Lacie at least got a little warmer. The sun was brighter than she expected and well it was also her fur coat that made things good, but she opened it and walked with Michelle to the castle that looked rather dark and gloomy but still very impressive. "How about we knock on the door and say we have a job to do?" it sounded very silly but they did have a job to do and if it was to expose someone bad mouthing the owner of the castle, wouldn't the guards just allow them in or where they really that self centred, "But by any means, I'm open for suggestions."

Michelle chuckled at Lacie’s question. “You are right. It shouldn’t be difficult… And yet they chose to ask someone from the outside. Could be several reasons why…” she said, wondering herself. “But like you said, no point saying no to easy money,” she added, flashing a curt smile towards Lacie. When the orange-haired mage suggested they simply knock on the door and say they had a job to do, Michelle almost burst into laughter. Not because she thought it was a silly idea, but because she believed it might actually work. Although she wasn’t hoping that the guards would simply let them in to snoop around to find the snitch. “I’m guessing the guy who gave us the job suspects not just the masons, but also the guards. Probably why he wants a third person to do the job and not one of his guards. Maybe we should tell the guards we are the new assistants for the masons,” she said, tapping her chin.

If Lacie agreed, Michelle would nod and then knock on the huge doors of the Castle. A bulky man would open the door, and jerk his head at them. “Whaddya want?” he said, still half asleep. “Here for the masonry work. We are the new assistants,” Michelle said, mocking a casual sweet tone. The man would look at the both the ladies from head to toe and then grin sheepishly. “Right… Don’t forget to come have a chat with me during the breaks,” he would say, almost drooling. “Of course! Looking forward to it,” Michelle replied, running a finger along his jawline before entering the castle. Once they were out of the guard’s vicinity, she would turn to Lacie and act like she was about to puke to express her disgust.

Several reasons why? It was just plain laziness it reminded her of Fernando in Baska, making her and Judina get a golden scissors while he could have done that better himself, but she had no need to go into a discussion, the money was fine and she wouldn't throw away jewels especially not if they came in an easy way. She took a deep breath and felt the cold air fill her lungs and shrug it off, if only that really worked. The Dragon Slayer had not even began to work on her new magic ability but she was sure as hell happy if it would all work out. "Yeah we could do that. Play it safe for everything, sounds like a plan." Lacie answered Michelle as she explained why perhaps the Phantasm people took the lazy route. She still believed that the guy that put up the fliers could have done the job. But perhaps people didn't talk to him, and they might talk to new faces?

Lacie tried not to gasp at the scenery that was happening in front of her, why.. why flirt with the guard! He was.. ugh.. But she quickly flashed just the same sweet smile that Michelle did and when the door closed behind them, she was glad too see Michelle prentending to puke, "For a second, I thought you had gone crazy." She admit and walked to the masons who already had started, even earlier?!
She didn't say anything to anyone and looked at what they were doing, "Let's pretend we fit in." which she definitely didn't with her fur coat, which she shook off and dropped on one of the chairs, now the dark red dress that she was wearing didn't make it any better but it would be fine. First she heard whispers about her and Michelle but soon enough that died down and she heard something about the Phantasm family, only who started those whispers?

Michelle frowned and shook her head when Lacie said she believed her to have gone crazy. “It always helps to keep the guards on your side. Especially in our line of business, because you never know when you have to run for it,” she said, shrugging. She always wondered why it was men who were guards. It made infiltration so easy. Women, on the other hand, were not so naïve and easy to seduce; or so she believed.

Their arrival did cause a wave of sleazy whispering among the workers, especially after Lacie removed her fur coat and revealed her red dress. A short and stout man, who seemed to be the manager of the masons, walked around the crowd and steered their vision away from the two ladies and get them back to work. Eventually, they did. Michelle nodded towards Lacie and took her position.

It took longer than she expected, but finally, the suspicious whispering began. At first, she wasn’t sure who it was, and she didn’t jerk her head towards the direction to avoid giving away her cover. Instead, she slowly moved towards the source, acting as if she was still working. When it was clear that someone on the other side of the wall was talking about the Phantasm family, Michelle turned towards Lacie, pointed towards the entrance and then immediately dashed in. Once she was inside, she caught the man talking by his collar; seeing this, the other one made a run for it. Pinning the man against the wall, Michelle would whisper so that the other workers weren’t alerted. “Not so smart talking about the Phantasm family while in the middle of their castle,” she said.

The man began sweating and stammering. “No… It’s not what you think…” he began, but caved in the minute Michelle frowned. “Okay! I admit. It’s me… Please. I have a family. I won’t say anything anymore. Just don’t tell on me. They will kill me,” he pleaded. Michelle let the man go, and he dropped the floor in a slump. If Lacie had entered the room, she would then turn to her and let her decide the man’s fate. “Well… Here’s the man. What do you think we should do?” she asked. Michelle truly didn’t care what happened to the man and would follow whatever Lacie decided to get the job over with.

This job was even more dumb than getting golden scissors for a designer. But she just let it be, the thing why this had made her even more grumpy was that it was still so very early as well as the fact that she would have to do some heavy work that she didn't like at all. She didn't even get paid for that, but she pretend to do a good job and loaf around when no one was watching or only Michelle. Finally when the whispers about them died down, Lacie heard some more but followed Michelle, who was next to her in the way to affront this person. She felt Michelle her eyes on her and looked up and gave a short nod when she pointed at the entrance, where the girl dashed off too, Lacie simply followed. She let the person pass while she stood in the entrance, they would get him if it was necessary, but he didn't run much further away only from this room. "I don't like people who don't overthink their own actions." She walked to the man and hunched down, "If you have a family, you should have considered that before opening your mouth about the owner of this castle." She stood up again and beckoned Michelle to come along as they would tell Sirius all about it.

This man would deserve what he would get and she would get her jewels. With that she would walk away from the castle, no need to stay longer than necessary, "Sometimes I wonder where the smart people stay."
