Liana
The Nature's Bonder
Liana might indeed soon find her way, her own way of performing such a technique successfully. Her issue wasn't exactly conjuring magical energy, as that appeared to be something the young Sylvaine is starting to understand more. It was her pose, how she would be able to travel all the way using her wooden thrusters without losing balance every single time she lands. It was easier said than done, just like mentioned beforehand and at this point, she knew she needed to attempt further more.

Her teacher's words and demonstrations only gave her a base to start, as the late teenager would have already been standing on her feet the moment Alisa jumped straight to action. The elf watched carefully as the older woman leaned forwards when producing the thruster and launching herself forwards. She was attentive to all details, especially those which the female Vollan mentioned. Due to that, Liana also took note of the creation of a second set of thrusters the moment Alisa was about to land, additionally leaning back when doing so.

"Hm... I think I get it now." She merely mumbles to herself, nodding towards the woman the moment she was over with her demonstration and preparing herself to perform the same, once more.

The starting stance was assumed, one foot partially lifted off the ground, the other standing firm on the grass. Almost like she was about to sprint in the olympics. Whilst she did all of that, mana would start to be channeled across her body, ultimately crossing down to her legs and then the bottom of her feet, concentrating there. The very second she leaps, the same rods of wood shoot out, pushing against the ground and pushing her forwards at the same time, rewarding her with a great headstart.

It allowed her to travel a bit further than before, yet, when it came to landing, she was a bit hesitant at first. Thankfully, at the last minute, she'd allow her body to lean back, all the while pointing her feet forwards and summoning another set of rods to prevent her from actually stumbling and falling on the grass just like on the first attempt.

Once she landed without suffering through any accidents, her attention is turned back to her teacher, a single light huff escaping her lips, mostly in relief. And then, a soft smile creeps up across her features and a silent giggle even comes out while she asked.

"Did I do well this time?"

With her natural affinity to her chosen element of magic, Liana faced no struggle with actually performing the spell once she realized exactly what she wanted to do with it. From then on, all she needed to do revolved around learning how to properly apply the spell she conceived and making as much possible use of it as she could... That she could perfect her spell with little more than those simple words from Alisa - as well as a single demonstration - attested to her talent. Just how strong could she grow in a matter of days, months even?

Her curiosity kept this question firmly planted in her mind as Liana successfully produced the shock absorbing pistons on landing, and by leaning her body back she successfully ground to a halt without eating a faceful of grass. Once she completed the first successful execution, Alisa applauded her with a slow clapping of her hands:

"Congratulations. You've just completed your first spell, and rather splendidly at that.", she approached the girl and pet that long, shimmering blonde hair of hers, and then rested her hand on her shoulder. She'd look into her eyes, speaking up as she lead Liana into the second phase of spell creation,  "Now, tell me... If you were facing an opponent who used a spell like the one you just created. What kind of opening would you exploit, what spell could you employ to counter them?"

She had quite a few ideas herself, and in a few minutes she'd undoubtedly share them... But for the time being, Alisa settled for looking at the elf as she thought for herself - following her every expression as if to spot that one moment when she finally thought up a solution - in time even wiping off a stray brown leaf that had clung to Liana's clothes the first time she fell down, and had remained there still.

The girl smiled happily, lowering her head down a tad as in pure appreciation towards the affection that the female Vollan offered her once she found herself successful in executing her first spell.

"Thank you, Alisa. If it wasn't for you teaching, for you being here, I don't think I'd be trying this hard. Thank you for guiding me." Liana speaks in her typical soft tone as she looked back up at the older woman for a moment.

Though, it didn't appear to be over.

Another question would come up, most likely starting the second phase of the training which was the creation of another spell, one that could counter a speedy opponent using that same maneuver she put to use beforehand. Her eyes roll away for a moment as she appeared to ponder hard on the subject. Eventually, an idea came up.

Those sapphire orbs of hers return to lock up on Alisa's own, a hand rising up as her index finger perks out, pointing at the skies.

"What about something sudden? Like... Like summoning a big tree trunk from the ground in front of me? I imagine someone going as fast as you, for example, would have trouble immediately changing directions. So something huge and abrupt like that should either force them to stop or make them crash! What do you think?"

"Don't sell yourself short sweetie. I'm not sure you've noticed, but you're quite talented you see~", she'd giggle and answer playfully, running a hand down her hair as she awaited Liana's answer to the problem she posed. Only for her smile to widen as she stated exactly the worst problem she'd have to deal with when mastering this new spell, "Bingo~", answered Alisa, raising a finger, "Producing an unexpected obstacle is indeed the easiest way of countering such sudden bursts of speed, however form that obstacle may take. With this in mind you already know what spell you must do next, I imagine?"

Once more, she'd look at Liana expectantly, wondering what manner of spell the girl might come up with. Perhaps she could simultaneously produce vines from the ground and her own body, binding herself to a single place and creating a pivot point? Or pehaps she could shoot a specialized grappling hook that could also pull her opponents to her position? Eventually though, Alisa conformed to her role of teacher and brought a hand to her chin, suggesting the option she felt would be ideal for this situation:

"Why not produce a vine from one part of your body, and another vine from an ideal spot in your surroundings?", as she explained this, Alisa brought both her hands together and clasping them, illustrating her idea, "Once your vines bind together, you have an ideal leash that can help pull or turn you in the adequate direction."

Of course, she'd await to see what ideas Liana had... If she really enjoyed the thrusters, she could even replicate them into this other momentum control spell...

Liana obviously smiled in satisfaction upon witnessing that her teacher was indeed pleased with the idea the young Sylvaine had brought up. As each second passes and as they do more and more training, the girl is starting to understand more about combat rules, about how ready mages should be when entering any kind of battle. Thus, more and better ideas came to her head quicker and she didn't even need to think that much. Even if this was her first time learning.

The first spell was created, and the second one as well, even if it had to be executed first. Now was time for a third, one, which from Alisa's suggestion, appeared to be directly supportive of the first one.

Her eyebrows raise and a somewhat amazed look overtook her features, her hands clasping together after the older woman's did the same.

"That's a great idea! It should help a lot if I'm having trouble moving around while using the first spell. Therefore, it should also prevent others from using something similar to the second spell against me."

In addition to what the female Vollan had already mentioned, Liana already thought about many different ways to use the third spell. There was no need to perform them at that moment. It was better to brainstorm and organize, and then truly put to practice all those ideas.

That look on her face was as adorable as ever for the sculptress who favored beauty above all. She had to nurture the girl with all her heart, to help her grow even more beautiful than she was now. Ultimate beauty meant far more than having a pretty face, to maintain it, one had to strive for it at even waking moment, even under the heat of battle. This in turn meant picking attacks that not only satisfied those pleasing aesthetics, but also sought after for a fair measure of efficiency. So far Liana had two effective spells.

The vines she first produced may have limited potential offensively, at least, compared to their huge potential as supplementary spells. She had to wonder, just how well did Liana understand this? If she didn't yet, she'd definitely grasp it soon enough:

"Indeed, and producing vines from the ground means you could just as easily use them to trip over your opponents as much as pulling yourself.", Alisa added, further hinting to this enormous potential her experience allowed her to imagine, but Liana may not have gotten there just yet, "You could pull yourself away from obstacles, or make your enemies fall right into them."

Meanwhile, she made no motion to hurry the girl into practicing, knowing she'd benefit from simply thinking over her next move, planning a head, and realizing how she could use a spell even before she got around to making it. Without it, she'd end up with a bunch of useless spells in her arsenal where she might have far better and more useful ones.

Having Alisa as her teacher was indeed a huge help. Not everyone gets to have such an opportunity, to be taught by a mage who could easily be called one of the best in the world. If Liana was doing this alone, if she was to think about spells all by herself, then she likely would create most of them with little to no potential. Since she is with the older woman, then the ideas, both come faster and come stronger.

A nod was offered towards the female Vollan, at the same time bringing back the second spell, which had the same exact potential. It could be used in more than one way.

"The same happens with the tree trunk spell! It can be used to stop a fast opponent, but also to protect myself from other incoming spells. Not only that, why not use it as some sort of elevator too?"

The young Sylvaine was successfully able to dwell more and more into the teachings, already having her own ideas, her own thoughts. The base that Alisa gave her offering her such. Could she be any happier? In time, she knew she'd become a brilliant mage, just like the older woman. Though, for that, the effort put into such had to be big.

Alisa did indeed hold herself in rather high regard, and it took an amazing degree of modesty to keep this unfathomable pride from clouding her judgment... And yet she recognized how those she wanted to kill yet stood leagues ahead of her. Many mages in the world - allies and enemies alike - yet stood leagues ahead of her. So long as this statement held true, she'd constantly seek out ever greater strength, so that none of those enemies would ever stand a chance when that time came. But as she thought about all this, Alisa's gaze inevitably fell upon Liana, wondering for what reason might the girl have embarked on this path to strength.

Talent aside, one does not simply draw out so much potential without a very strong resolve hidden in her heart. Was the blonde elf even completely aware of this herself?

"You mean producing a tree trunk under your feet to knock you up?", Alisa wondered, furrowing her brow as she glanced down, "It's not a bad idea... But when you create a spell, you also have to think about how many different uses it may have. How could it prevent an opponent from grasping your feet and tripping you over?", Indeed, the tree trunk was a good idea, but it also raised even bigger defensive concerns. The moment she thought about them, however, Alisa brought it up, "And if you do successfully knock yourself up into the air, you could avoid the first attack... But once you're in midair, you can't dodge."

Of course, just like Liana came up with her own solutions, she'd also have to come up with solutions for the problems her first solutions would inevitably create:

"Meaning you'd still need a way to change trajectory in a heartbeat, once you're airborne. For now, you should focus mostly on avoiding potential obstacles from your enemies as you move at high speed, in a way that doesn't leave you wide open."

Alisa did raise a good point, or even many of them. An enemy could indeed try to trip her while she's performing the spell and even if she's able to avoid that, there's still the chance of the tree trunk itself sending her airborne, where she is much more vulnerable. Though, that specific example wasn't thought about in battle, but more so when facing a very high obstacle, higher than one can climb. And even if she was to create a spell that would allow her to climb it, creating one which acts as an elevator would make it a much faster and safer way of crossing it.

After what the older woman said, it made Liana ponder as she'd gaze down for a moment, bringing a single hand over to her face and beginning to scratch her cheek once more in thought.

"Well, I thought more about using it outside of battle or when I have to cross a big obstacle so that the tree trunk could push me over it. But I guess you are right. It would be risky to use it in a fight."

All of this was truly making her learn more. She might not be entirely aware of the amount of potential she has been able to draw out so far, yet, the source may likely be the most obvious...

... The clear desire to protect the ones dearest to her, like Esperia.

It appeared the girl had been thinking about the tree trunk as a mostly supplementary spell, do be used outside of combat... While not a bad idea, Alisa still felt there were others that could do the same thing better: For instance, she could create a tree trunk capable of pushing people in any direction (not just straight ahead), which she could in turn:

"If it's just for that, you'd be far better off just making a spell to walk on walks, and even water. Just about any magic can let you do that much without any difficulty.", nodded Alisa, as she thought back to her own spell. She wound up not needing it much, but on more than one occasion she actually wound up climbing and running along walls using pure physical fitness when she could have just used it. It felt almost like cheating for someone who trained as much and as intensely as this sculptress, but she knew a time may eventually come when she'd have no choice but to use it. Then she scanned down Liana's body, smile widening as a rather good idea soon hit her, "Actually, that's not a bad idea at all. If someone makes a physical obstacle in front of you, a decent wall running spell will let you go over it without trouble~"

She'd still need to deal with untimely tripping attacks, but at least

"And that tree trunk is a pretty good idea too... While I dislike the thought of using it to fling yourself upwards, that same issue that poses a problem to you can pose a problem to your enemies: A thick tree trunk could push your foes in any direction, such as up into the air, or even towards you.", her lips widened into a smirk at this, as Alisa perfectly understood a one hit kill technique one she saw one. Mind you, one hit kill doesn't necessarily mean a spell that can instantly kill an opponent on hit, but rather a spell that can leave an enemy in a position where Liana could effortlessly kill them.

Of course, she also knew Liana struggled with the word kill, and for that reason she avoided mentioning it out loud. But Alisa truly hoped, from the bottom of her heart, that if the blonde ever stood face to face with a choice to kill or be killed, she'd choose the former... For this reason Alisa kept training her, so she'd be perfectly capable of protecting herself and her loved ones... And thus, they'd keep at it for a few more hours, until reaching a satisfying end to Lia's first lesson.

More and more ideas, thrown at her one after the other. This was truly how it felt training with Alisa and while it would be a bit too much for the lazy ones, the young Sylvaine wasn't that kind of person. Matter of fact, she smiled with every concept offered to her by the older woman. Now a spell that would allow her to walk on walls and water, and maybe even more, as well as a better way to use the suggested tree trunk spell.

Could she be any more thankful?

At the end, after the few more hours had passed, Liana would obviously appear to be rather exhausted, as after the brainstorming, they would have normally gone to try all of the spells. She pressed both hands against her knees and looked down, panting for a couple moments before standing up straight once more, giggling a few times and gazing back up at the older woman, wearing a big, happy smile.

"Thank you, Alisa...! I'm really grateful for your teachings. This way, I can finally protect Esperia and the ones I want to keep close. Like you too."

After she said that, a faint blush would appear to round her cheeks, though the elf managed to somehow disguise it by looking away and adding something else almost immediately afterwards.

"But we should go now, it's getting late."

Whether they'd stay a bit more or not was up to both, though now training was over. Tomorrow was another day, perhaps another day of progress.
