The guild hall may have been mostly demolished, but the magic present in some of those places still did its charm, and Alisa knew this. Magical wards such as those couldn't so easily broken without a directly focused effort, something the Master of Grimoire Heart didn't really bother with. And why would he? The Master never got to tell them what - if anything - had motivated this attack other than a blind bloodlust, and now he wasn't really in any condition to do so...

But that was beside the point, as the sculptress had just finished a rather stenuous physical exercise. Her breath heavy and ragged, her skin flushed and sweaty, she approached the Guild's ruins with an exhausted look on her face, chugging a fair bit of her water as she stepped inside. And no matter how many times she'd seen this, no way she'd ever get used to it. A loud, rumbing cacophony of construction work filled the air the closest she got, accompanied by shouting men voicing alerts of calls for help, with enough dust in the air that she couldn't help but raise one arm over her face, shielding her airways for all the good it did.

She even coughed a couple of times as she moved around, gaining a think, flimsy layer of dust clinging to her sweat slicked skin. Fortunately, she soon passed by the worst of the repair work, away from the crew as she approached her goal. Without anybody to stop her, she freely ventured into the wreckage in search of the training room's ruins, past the hard working men and women. Thankfully, they had yet to start working on that end of the guildhall, and had done little but remove the worst of teh rubble. Alisa could still see where the tatami covered training room once stood, though the mat was now - like everything else - completely covered in dust - while most of the training dummies looked magically intact, a clear testament that the wards were indeed still working as the Master intended them.

More than just her body, she had to keep training her magic, mastering new spells, test what did and what didn't work, as that meant all the more weapons she could use against her foes.

"I have a trump card already...", she thought out loud, furrowing her brow as she pondered to herself, rubbing her chin, "But you can't hope to win a game just by throwing your trump card around."

So she though about her weaker, lower level spells. Despite being weaker, she found them by no means less useful. Weaker spells could be used almost repeatedly with very short cooldowns in between, meaning she could consistently rely on them throughout the whole battle. Unlike her strongest spells, she had more than one chance to use them, and they still had as much potential to turn the tides of a battle. Of course, her opponents could just as easily take them and force Alisa into an unfavorable engagement, whereas doing so with an S-rank spell would mean certain doom.

Her thrusters were one of Alisa's strong spells, but even after incorporating them into her stakes, she knew they still had plentiful potential for improvement. For starters, the length was far too short, while this posed no problem for close range dashes, it became troublesome once her foes realized they could just keep backing away and hitting her with spells or whatever other they shit they could come up with. Ideally, she'd want to use it to close a minimal distance, enough to hit point blank range and strike before anyone had a real time to react. This was, in her mind, the most efficient way of fighting; ending a battle as quickly as possible, revealing as little of her true strength as possible. This would in turn leave more trump cards to be used on unsuspecting foes...

That said, simply getting a stronger version of them gave her a continued access to instant dashing, momentum shifting abilities, and she could find so many uses for that spell it didn't really bother her to use it's effects in a myriad of different others. But she'd think about the myriad later, first, she had to get this advanced version working correctly. Shouldn't be too hard, right?

"It's all about breaking limits... But in this case the limits are great enough to give me plenty of room for improvement.", she observed, channeling mana through her feet.

And suddenly, kick off. In a split second, Alisa raised and tapped her lead foot while kicked off with the rear, pushing against the ground with all her might in tune with the activation of her spell. She poured in twice as much mana as she would have done for the normal usage of this spell, usually classified as D-rank.

Doubling it's power meant increasing it to C-rank, and theoretically doubling the dash distance as well... Theoretically.

As another set of trusters kicked in when her bent legs started absorbing the impact - letting her stop near instantaneously - the crystal sculptress crouched slightly as she rearer her had back and examined the results... Too little, not nearly enough to justify the mana she put into it. She'd only dashed about eight meters despite putting her full power into this. Not enough...

She'd try it again next time, after she got to work on the next spell. Raising up from her position, Alisa looked at her hand and clenched her right fist. She was effectively ambidextrous, having trained to use both hands from youth with near equal strength and dexterity. So if she normally wielded her sword in one hand, she also had nothing preventing her from wielding another in the other hand. Or at least, something that looked like a sword and could be struck as such. If she created such a weapon at point blank range, her magic's natural speed could easily be used in combination with her own and result in a lightning fast slashing or piercing attack. The question now was; how to go about creating this spell?

She had her shatter spell, which she typically employed for punching enemies harder than she could with her bare hands. As she grew stronger, much of that spell's power boost had become redundant to the point of uselessness, but it still had a major strength Alisa couldn't get in any other way. The element of surprise. All in all, this spell looked like it existed to punch people - and indeed she activated it with a punch - but what her foes seldom expected was her ability to shoot it forwards as a projectile, with a somehwat controllable trajectory. Just like they seldom expected it to shatter into a cloud of sand like crystal dust, exceedingly painful to one's eyes if got there.

A good use of a D-rank spell that was, but now, using the same principle, just how might Alisa achieve her vision with a C-rank level spell? She ran one hand down her hair, grooming it slightly before adjusting her hairband, and looking towards one of the training dummies. Like everything else, they were covered in dust, but otherwise in perfect condition. Not for long they wouldn't be...

Picturing an enemy in their place, Alisa frowned and clenched her right fist, concentrating her mana there. This was, in a way, similar to how she first channeled her Vajradeha, yet whereas that spell required nothing but a clenched fist to be summon, this one employing something else. Once satisfied with the moderate amount of mana she had channeled, the crystal sculptress swiped her arm open and aside, releasing her mana from one focused point around her outstretched palm. Shifting her gaze that way, she watched as the long, crystalline blade erupted from her palm, it's color closer to ruby then her usual cool pink, all but matching her eyes.

A color with a meaning, and a meaning she understood the moment she looked at it, even better than she understood her feelings when she looked inwards. Alisa frequently detached herself from her feelings, but she wasn't so heartless as to understand herself. Her rage at her own weakness at her own failure. She may hold herself back, but she acknowledged this well enough. It was why she was training after all.

In the end, the mere imagine of a faceless minion of Grimoire Heart and dashed right ahead, swiping her arm back to the front and clearly severing much of the training dummy's head, "CHAAAAAI!!", she cried out with a vicious Kiai that even drew the attention of some of the construction workers.

But that wasn't enough for her. No longer than it took her attack to connect with the motionless target, and Alisa immediately shifted her hips the other way, turning her whole body to face not this enemy but another one further away. With keen control over her magic and a chopping motion of her forearm, she detached the blade from her arm and sent it spinning straight towars another training dummy, also catching it in the neck. Of course, these 'enemies', didn't really move... But if she were incapable of hitting even them, just how in the world could she hope to nail a real, fast moving target in the future.

Well, this spell worked well enough, though Alisa disappointingly found she couldn't immediately regrow her blade after having thrown it. Guess this gives a new meaning to the whole 'Dont through your weapon on the battlefield' saying... Then again, she'd ideally do this having another weapon to use, so it shouldn't really be a problem... Which in turn left only her thrusters spells to try again, and that would be all for her C-rank spells. No point beating around the bush anymore now, is there. Alisa didn't even bother turning around, shifting her body, or anything of the sort. The whole point of this spell was to dash in any direction as opposed to a regular dash where she'd be mostly limited to moving forwards.

Thus, she leaned back and tapped her foot, as if she'd just delivered grievous damage to an enemy and wanted to back away before backup came to assist. Once her foot touched, the ground, she kicked back in tune with the thrusters protuding underneath her feet, pushing her away from the fight at her natural dash speed, just like had she been dashing forwards. And this time, she clearly felt the difference, even as she moved back first, and despite the danger of tripping onto an unseen rock and falling ass first on the dusty, messy tatami. She easily moved more than last time, very close to the ten meters justified by this amount of mana.

That said, she couldn't help but notice her inability to change directions inbetween dash like she once used to...

Perhaps because the added power she pumped into the spell came with the a cost in terms of control? At least her precision seemed unaffected. Now with two spells out of the way. Alisa went back to rubbing her cheek as she looked around the wrecked training room and thought about what else she needed somewhat urgently, and only one thing stuck out: a new defensive spell. Not every magic could be used as and pull off effective barriers, but Alisa for one, had access to the hardest substance on earth. Diamond. Even if she couldn't go as far as Diamond hardness with anything but an S-rank spell, even the lower ranks could yield something capable of toughing out all but the strongest spells.

"First, let's try a simple wall...", she thought, once more adjusting her hair, wiping the sweat off her face as she channeled mana into one hand.

Releasing that mana produced a somewhat small, two meter wide barrier in front of her. At this level, however, Alisa had the luxury of getting creative and earning a bit more bang for her buck... A simple wall could undoubtedly be effective in stopping a spell, but she could go the extra mile and add another wall on top of it... Yet as she channeled and released a bit more mana, she wound up placing the barrier not in front of the first one, but beside it, angled in a wedge.

It came somewhat as a surprising result, as she wasn't really expecting them to arrange themselves in this way. Truly, it seems magic often understands the will of its maker even the caster herself doesn't. After one minute of examining the arrangement, she indeed found ideal, deflecting the force of an uncoming spell to either side, naturally causing said spell to split up at the seams while sparing Alisa the pain of recieving it with her body.

However, she needed a defensive spell to protect herself, so if said spell didn't achieve this effect, whatever configuration it assumed served her little. Strategies may be good or bad when you succed, but they're never good when they fail. So, she must ensure it would succeed and pass its trial by fire. And how would she achieve this? Why, by testing yet another spell on it, of course!

All in all, Alisa had enough faith in her martial skills that she could realistically rely on it for damage and not so much on what she could get from purely damaging spells, yet something to crack open an enemy's defenses could ultimately come into play and help her close in for the finish. This naturally pointed towards a big spell that could come from a difficult angle to defend against: Below.

The crystal elementalist ignored all thoughts but this one as she targeted her training dummy, in the same area where her own defensive spell also stood. The position wasn't perfect, but it got the idea across: An enemy holed up behind a defensive spell. So as she channeled her magic, she imagined the purest configuration her crystals could assume, rupturing the ground in a circle:

"Stalagmite!", she called out the name of the spell by instinct - flicking two fingers upwards - though not so much a flood of inspiration as it was the furthest from a genuinely original name as she could muster. Oh well, her artistic sense wasn't so much honed towards names as it was towards appearances, and she could cope with basic names.

Most likely she'd never call most of her spells' names in battle... That however, was a story for another day. The crystals erupted beneath her targeted area with a shattering crash, echoing through the ruins of the guildhall loud enough to once more get the contruction guys' attention. Her crystals burst forth in a cluster of stalagmite like rods, like one would find in a tightly packed formation inside a cave.

And now to examine the results. Alisa walked around the damaged wedge shaped defense, which had nonetheless endured the impact of an offensive spell of the same rank. That one passed the test, and she could confidently wield in battle. As she walked a bit further and fully circumvented the defense, she could finally lay eyes on the damage training dummy and indeed confirm consistency with what one would expect from the amount of mana pumped into it.

The full area of the crystalline debris - four meters wide - wasn't particularly impressive but she could still use it to nail an opponent running blindly towards her...

She expected she could make it grow as high as four meters, as well as control the thickness of each individual crystal formation, allowing her to either pierce or simply use the jagged edges to cut. Also worth noting how ridiculously fast the crystals erupted from the ground, about as fast as they'd erupt from a magic circle had she cast it in midair. She had magic speed to thank for this, and understood simply this speed alone could catch just about anyone off guard for the first time. From then on, foes could possibly look for the casting movements she'd naturally require, which meant taking them a second time wouldn't be nearly as easy as the first one. That was, unless she chained it into something else... The spell's lack of a true travel time and reliance on a targeted area meant sacrificing the ability to line up enemies and catch them all with one spell, in favor of surprising a single one. Maybe not completely defeating them, but this would still damage their legs first and foremost, and could make dodging any followup spells difficult...

With these successful results, Alisa once more wiped the sweat of her face, before pulling off her hairband. She felt something wet on her arms and shoulders, and raising her palm to face the sky confirmed it had indeed started to rain... And would only get worse from now on. Satisfied with these results, she felt no need to roll around in the rain any longer, and simply ruffled her hair, groomed it, and then replaced her headband, only to step outside the ruins to a couple catcalls from the construction guys. Business as usual for them aparently...
