The more Kerii explored of Astera, the more fascinating it became. From afar, the snow white town looked quaint, but plain; however, once one set foot into town, they would realize that it was far from ordinary. Though the buildings themselves were relatively uniform in appearance, one street could contain a surprise far different than the next. Sometimes a route would open up into a square, which could contain a little performance, or a merchant selling unique goods, and everything in between. It was no wonder how someone could easily get lost, especially if they got distracted from all the disarray.

Luckily for the Lamia, she didn't have to worry about getting back to her room at the inn until nightfall. Although she fully intended on picking up a request or two in Astera, she allowed herself some time to explore first. After wandering for who knew how long-- time quickly became fluid after being awestruck-- a magic shop caught her eye. The elf's curiosity begged her to enter, so she caved in. Even if she didn't end up buying anything, it would be worth it to see what the shop had to offer.

Upon entering the store, one could see a wide array of magical items. There was nothing too fancy, but the majority seemed to either be common ones one could find all across Fiore, or potentially water-based, which made sense since she was in Astera after all. Although she had no use for the later, a certain pair of earrings caught her eye. Strangely enough, they seemed to look like ordinary, non-magical ones, but they appealed to her nonetheless.

Manzo

The sun high in the sky, signalling it was just an hour past noon. The hottest part of the day by far, but the heat didn't sway Manzo from wearing his usual garb, long sleeves with a cloak over it. It did bring some attention his way, though not enough to make Manzo want to disappear from the streets and take to the roof tops. Being noticed and recognizable wasn't something he tended to enjoy, moving about as a phantom served him much better.

Though in the case of Astera it would seem he wouldn't be so lucky, he was a black brush stroke on a canvas of white buildings and ivory streets. Though the town was quiet enough, which he did enjoy, loud noises and busy streets made for an unpleasant traveling experience.

As he made his way through the streets, he stumbled upon a magic shop, he chuckled to himself, thinking he might be able to find something useful for his journey. Though given his recent run of luck he didn't hold his breath for a moment.

As he made his way through the doorway he removed the cloak that covered his garbs. Under his cloak he wore a long sleeve black button down shirt, not all the way buttoned up as to let his neck breathe, it gave a glimpse of his guild tattoo, black, to match everything else about his aesthetic.

He perused the wares of the shop, finding nothing to complement his arsenal, he let out a sigh of disappointment. This had proven to be a waste of his time. Though one thing did catch his eye, a certain piece of jewelry, a necklace. Said necklace reminded him of one his mother tended to ware when he was a child. He found himself blankly staring at it for the moment.

The earrings were simple studs with a polished gleam to them. They didn't inherently look magical, but they must have been if they were being sold here. Sure enough, when she placed them in her hands, she could feel the jewelry gently emanating mana. Wondering what their function was, she took them to the cashier who informed her that they were enchanted to fortify the wearer, not with a spell, but with the magic of the earrings themselves. Being a healer, this aspect was actually rather important to her. Seeing as the magical item was reasonably priced, she decided to purchase it.

The elf thanked the cashier and tried on the studs. As she did so, a cloaked figure came into the store. He took it off, revealing a portion of a dark tattoo. She couldn't quite make out what it was, for he soon gravitated towards an amulet of sorts. The elf peered at the necklace and became intrigued about it too. She walked over and tapped her finger on a spot above her lip. "That's a pretty necklace," she said aloud, hopefully not startling the man. "What do you think it does?"

Raven hair, the smell of butter cups, these were what drifted through his mind as he stared at the pendant attached to the chain. The more he stared at it the more his hand twitched, small sparks of electricity resonating from his hand, not big enough for the naked eye to see, but enough for him to feel. Suddenly he felt the electric field around his personal space penetrated by an energy. Energy of a green color, at least that was what the color resonated to within his head.

He turned his eyes to see whom it was that had breached his field. To his surprise it was an elf. Something he had not seen in quite sometime, not since his voyage to the deep forest. He had nothing but good things to say, and to feel from the elven people. "It is a beautiful piece. It reminds me of something my mother wore in my childhood." He said now returning his gaze to the piece itself.

When the question of what it's exact purpose was, was brought up. He crossed his fingers, sending a small about of electricity through the piece, causing it to latch around his neck. "As for what it does. Well lets find out." He then diverted his gaze to the shop keep. Motioning for him to pick up a piece of paper.

"Now hold it up, and away from you." The shop keep did so, then with the sound of a snap of the fingers, the paper had a small pin sized hole in it. "Seems to be an amplifier. Giving the wearer more control."

Thankfully, Kerii's intrusion hadn't seemed to bother the man. As a matter of fact, he seemed to be curious as to the effects the necklace had as well. Instead of asking the shopkeeper though like she did, he instead decided to try the effects out himself. She was about to ask if that was even allowed, but he instructed the shopkeeper to hold up a piece of paper and the owner surprisingly complied. Either this sort of thing happened often, or the item was not particularly dangerous.

The man snapped his fingers and a tiny hole tore through the paper, almost as if a bullet went through it. He concluded that it was a power amplifier of sorts, specifically in terms of control. "Mmm I see," the elf noted. It wouldn't be of much use for her though. The Lamia's magic was focused around healing rather than damage, though it could be useful for him.

"So, you're a mage? What brings you to Astera, if you don't mind me asking."

He removed the necklace from around his neck and placed it back into the case. Leaving a pouch jewels on the case to pay the man for indulging him in his little test. He then turned his attention back to the elven woman who was proceeding to make conversation with him. Her questions were standard fair, more than likely polite pleasantries she gave to everyone.

"Very astute, I am indeed a mage."

He said with a small chuckle. As to what he was doing here, that was a different question entirely. His travels took him many places, this was just another one of his stops, not wanting stay in one place for too long, or really make acquaintances.

"Well, this will probably sound silly, but I don't exactly know what it is I'm doing here. I find myself wandering more and more these days."

So the man was a mage, as evidenced by the hole he tore through the paper, though she supposed now it could've been a result from the amulet itself. Regardless, her assumption was correct, but strangely even as a mage, he was unsure of the exact reason he came to Astera. Much like Kerii, the man was a wanderer. She related to that statement somewhat, not really knowing why in particular she came to a place. In all honesty, she went to Astera simply because it was not Crocus. She could have picked any spot on the map, and as long as it wasn't the place where her father was, she would have been satisfied.

"I get that," she agreed, nodding her head. "I'm a mage too, so I mainly came here for work, but I also heard very good things about this town." Smiling, she peered out one of the shop's many windows. "It's really pretty, don't you think?" Everything, from the buildings to the streets, echoed purity. It was a stark contrast to other cities she had been to, quite notably Dahlia, and even a bit Orchidia. Even though she had come to love the town as her home, even she had to admit that it would get eerie once the plants started to overgrow or winter started to set in.

Manzo

A wanderer like himself it seemed, though perhaps she was wandering for the same reason, or something else entirely. Who was to say, it was not in his nature to pry for information, though it seemed like she was willing to give it, seeing as she had been forth coming with her reason for being here. Perhaps she was looking for an ear, someone she could speak with, with no consequences. He was a stranger, and she was one to him also, what harm could it do, to do a little bit of prying. The worst thing that could befall him was to be told that it was truly none of his business.

"I wander for the sake of wandering, trying to find something, but I have no idea what it is, I'll just know it when I see it. If that makes any sense at all." Most people who heard Manzo's story often thought he was running from a problem, or on a treasure hunt of some sort. Maybe he was looking for a treasure and was just unaware that, that was the true goal of his travels. Or maybe he was looking for an answer to a question he didn't know he had. It was truly hard to say.

Though he must admit she did have a point about this particular city. There was something pure about it. Something serene that he often felt himself going back in time to when Kenta had first taken him to that village. But that was so far away at this point, and maybe he was a tad home sick.

"Never did I think something so bland could be so beautiful. Surrounded by a sea of white, identical buildings. The symmetry is what makes it beautiful I think. The lack of flaws and diversity. So simple, yet elegant."

"I was the same way for a while," the elf smiled, almost in a wistful manner. She too used to travel just for the sake of traveling. Adventure always filled her with thrill, but that all came to an abrupt stop a few years ago. She would slowly start to get back to where she used to be, and then another event would set her back once more. It put her far behind other mages and put a damper on her excitement. Honestly, if it hadn't been for the demonic incursion in Orchidia, she might not have had the drive that took her to Astera. It was an unsettling thought that such a tragedy was responsible for her acting that way, but it was unfortunately a reality.

Shying away from the topic of wandering, the man commented on the beauty of Astera. He for one adored the flawless symmetry, which Kerii found rather ironic. Though it was true all the buildings and streets were shockingly reflective of one another, each area couldn't be more different.

"Then you clearly haven't looked at the town close enough. I could show you a few things if you want-" She suddenly stopped, realizing that the man hardly knew her, and she didn't even know his name. He would be a fool to explore with a complete stranger. "I'm sorry, you don't even know me. My name's Kerii."

Manzo

This blonde elf was quite peculiar Manzo thought to himself. What exactly was her angle at offering him to show him around the city. Did she do this sort of thing often he wondered. Picking up strange men that she met in shops. Looking at her he couldn't believe that it was in her nature. But like most of the greatest books in the world, they had covers that didn't do their contents justice, and he wasn't in the habit of judging things by how they seemed, but for how they are.

He couldn't seen the harm in going with her anywhere, it wasn't as though he couldn't take care of himself if things with south. But her aura didn't lend itself to hostility, no elf was truly in the business of underhandedness, well except High Elves, they were a different story entirely. Wood elves on the other hand were a kind and gentle people. So in the greater spectrum of things this could prove to be an interesting afternoon.

When she introduced herself, he couldn't help but think that her name wasn't very elvish, but if she introduced herself in her mother tongue, he wouldn't be able to understand it regardless.

"Kerii huh, interesting name.I got by Manzo, and it would be a pleasure to explore with you."

Once again, the man luckily did not seem put off by her more direct approach and commented that she had an interesting name, introduced himself as Manzo, and agreed to explore Astera. "Yeah..." the elf replied, scratching the back of her neck, making it seem like she was responding awkwardly to the bit about her name.

It was indeed true that Kerii would seem like an odd name for a Wood Elf, and that was precisely the reason she chose to go by it. Her true name was another matter, but that wasn't the reason she appeared uneasy. She was frankly put off by her own behavior. It was unlike her to be as forward as she just was, and as she thought about it, the more she thought she could hear this sort of familiar voice in the back of her mind, but she did her best to push it aside and chalk it up to her imagination.

"Can't say I've heard of too many Manzos either. Now let's head um... this way." She pointed towards where they would go should they take a right as they exited the shop. Once outside, the Lamia would decide to probe Manzo with a question or two. After all, if she was going to see some of Astera with him, she might as well know the guy.

"So, as a mage, do you just wander around or are you tied to a guild of sorts?"

Manzo

Manzo followed Kerii's lead, allowing her to play leader considering their palling around was her idea. She clearly had something in mind for this little tour and Manzo was just a tad bit curious as to what it is she had in mind for the day. She was an interesting little elf. Though there was also some pure and clean about her aura, as if she was just a pure light, which was uncommon in this day and age. She was a bit of a pryer, which is fine. Manzo didn't see the harm in divulging a little information about himself.

"I'm sure you've never heard of me. But I'm the stormcaller of Blue Pegasus."

If she had any idea of what that meant she would understand that his role in his guild was important. He was a wandering cloud. A storm ready to break out on anything that came to threaten his guild, and his family.

"Though, while I told you that I didn't know what I was looking for, it wasn't exactly the truth. My job is to travel and identify threats to my guild, and eliminate them from the shadows."

Manzo was right. She hadn't heard of the 'Stormcaller of Blue Pegasus' before, but that wasn't necessarily reflective of him as a mage. Kerii had been a little out of the loop. She heard names, but they drifted in one ear and out the other without her truly comprehending, much less remembering. As such, she never really expected anyone to ever hear of her either, but that didn't stop her from introducing herself with one of her titles.

"Oh, you're from Blue Pegasus?" she asked, grinning at the sight of another light mage. "I'm Lamia Scale's Draken, but I don't really expect you to have heard of that either." The elf had held that title for quite some time now and later went on to acquire the epithet: The Sylvan Fay. Regardless of which label she said though, she again, didn't expect anyone to have heard of the healer who could hardly fight nearly as well as other members within her guild. It was ironic, considering Lamia Scale was supposed to be renowned for its strength, and yet there Kerii was, not possessing a single offensive spell in her arsenal.

The girl listened to what Manzo said. He wasn't really a wanderer, so to speak, but he did travel to find and eliminate threats towards the Blue Pegasus guild. This made a lot more sense than randomly picking a town and going there just for the sake of it, and she understood why he might not have said so before.

"I mostly just go to towns like these for requests. You know, pick up a job or two and help others out. Your kind of work isn't really my role in the guild."

WORDS:196  | TAG: @Kerii

The two of them were quite the odd couple, they were staples in their guild and yet they held no recognition outside of it. What a funny thing when you think about it, the two of them being so unnoticed, yet they found each other by chance. What a strange coincidence indeed. But Manzo was not one to look a gift horse in the mouth. He decided long ago that everything happened for a reason, be it good or bad.

"While I am from blue pegasus, I have often thought it was time to move on from them. As though my time with them was long over. But I think that says more about me than it does about them." He said with a small chuckle, perhaps this little elf from Lamia Scale could help him come to a decision about what he should do, she didn't truly know him, so there couldn't be any bias there. " Tell me, if you were in my position, what would you do?" Though she would more than likely find such a question out of the blue, he did hope she would give him an actual answer.
