It was a quiet night in Dahlia. The roads of dirt were filled with nothing, no people, no animals. Just silence. In the distance, a carriage led by a horse could be heard. It seemed to be simply a farm delivering some goods. As the carriage made the only noise in the streets, another source could be heard making an odd sound.

"Jesus!" Could be heard, perhaps waking every soul in the half kilometer radius. Abel seemed to have messed up his landing and hurt his leg. Wasn't too serious, though. Would be gone in a few seconds. The young bounty hunter had been hiding in the farmer's goods since Baska just because he wanted to get to Dahlia, a place in which he heard was in need of a man of his profession. Was a rather long trip though, admittedly. Abel brushed off the pieces of fruit that had gone along with him when he jumped out of the carriage, now standing in front of a creepy looking inn. Yeesh, can't cost that much to get a new paint job, can it?"

Walking into the inn, Abel saw a small board of bounties. Perfecto. But for now, he was tired and hungry, and he needed to at least satisfy one of those. To the counter!

Hopping on over into one of the barstools, Abel made EXTRA sure to spin around in it, all the way to a full 360 degrees. Wasn't as easy as it sounded. Once Abel was done with that, he knocked on the counter two times to the old man at the counter. Gramps, you mind getting me a drink and some protein? Thanks!" he said, as the employee simply rolled his eyes, moving back to a very rusty and perhaps suspicious looking tap. Obviously the health inspector didn't happen to stop by often.

It tasted good though, and wasn't too expensive or anything. Abel's eyes attentively scanned the rest of the bar to see if there was anyone else here. He'd perhaps make some adoring fans in Dahlia, then move on to the bounty board, the main reason he came to this old creepy town in the first place.

Following a week full of stressful events was a strangely calm Friday evening. The vampyress decided to forget about her duties and simply spend the night relaxing to just stop worrying about everything for a while. Her plans for the evening included drinking like a madwoman and probably going on a rampage in the Aldenwald. The latter always helped with getting rid of the unwanted anxiety. Every time she took up requests, the clients’ problems became her problems. She needed to stop doing that. It didn’t help that she was working for both Bishop Santos and Adarian who were arch enemies. If either of them discovered this, the consequences wouldn’t be pretty.

Warmwool Inn was almost like the go-to place to stay in Dahlia Town, and a lot of guests showed up every day. Joan would see a bunch of new faces every day unlike the inns she stayed at in the other towns. To be honest, she ended up staying here mainly because she wasn’t very familiar with this town and Warmwool Inn was the best option according to the carriage driver. After checking it out to make sure she wasn’t being fooled, she decided to stay there. Everything had been going pretty well for the past few weeks, so she was quite satisfied with the choice she made, although normally she would prefer to lay low and choose to stay in not-so-well-known inns.

Rubbing the back of her neck and jerking it to one side, she released a sigh from the satisfaction of that feeling as she came to the bar within the inn. This was the very first time she was here so she wasn’t sure if she was going to enjoy being here, but that also depended on her company and she was hoping to find someone to drink with at least. She noticed that she wasn’t the only person at the bar. As she ordered the usual, the vampyress stole a glimpse of the blonde stranger next to her. He looked as though he had been crawling through some bushes. Afterwards, she returned her gaze to the bartender as he prepared her drink.

Ah, there she was! A dark haired girl was right there. The first thing he thought was that her hair color and overall look certainly matched the town that they both happened to be in right now. Maybe she was a local? Abel finished taking a sip of his drink and would spin around on his stool, trying to make the max rotations he possibly could in one swing before looking onwards into the young lady's direction. Next was the hard part. What to ask? Well, usually Abel was quite fond of simply saying the first thing that came into mind. Hmm... seemed like a good plan to him!

"You know, I must say, your look really matches this town. You from around here?" Abel's insensitive, or moreso stupid nature would probably make him look rude. After all, what lady liked to be compared to a run down, dusty town like this? He was more thinking of the color scheme obviously, but would she pick up on that? If not, he would certainly be in for a bit of a rough conversation, if one even happened at all that was. Even Abel's face seemed to not know what he just said, a dumb smile on his mug as if he had something completely normal, perhaps he thought it was even a compliment for the young woman. Would he get yelled at? Find out soon.

Joan saw that the male beside her had noticed her arrival when he started doing silly things like spinning his barstool as if he was twelve. She faced forward as he did so, not really paying attention to him and once her drink arrived, she held it in both her hands before she turned to face him. This was exactly the moment he started talking to her. She could not really tell if it was a compliment, or if he was trying to make fun of her choice of clothing. Either way, she would shoot him a smile and take a sip from her cup.

The vampyress stared at the content of her glass for a while before taking another sip and responding to the male. “No I’m not from around here, although I’ve thought about moving here a few times. It’s a nice place, don’t you think?” she said. That was no sarcasm. Joan had thought about buying property here at some point. She never decided to do it and it just ended up being one of those life plans she scrapped. After a few more sips of her drink, she realized that she was going to be here for a while and downed what remained of her drink before getting her glass refilled.

Abel seemed to get a response that he would want, not that he was expecting the woman to get mad or anything with that thick skull of his. He nodded to the lady, as he noticed her down the entire glass of her drink at once. Yeesh, that was impressive. Abel wasn't even sure if he would be able to do that. Well, he probably would, but still..

Abel spoke to the woman in his usual carefree tone. "I have to say, the town has a feel to it that you don't get in the rest of Fiore." he said, as he would take a bite of the beef jerky that had been served to him earlier. As he chewed, he kept on speaking despite the fact that he was in the presence of a lady. He either gave no fucks, or he was just extremely stupid. It was definitely the latter.

"You know, it's kinda like you. I've never met a lady that looked like you before!" he said, once again blurring the line between what would be seen as a compliment and what was an insult, while in Abel's intention it was really more of just a general statement that he would make based off his observations about her appearance. To be fair, Abel kinda looked weird in a few ways too. In a way, the two at this inn were polar opposites appearance wise.

As she got her refill, Joan smiled at the bartender and turned back to the stranger, who now mentioned how Dahlia gave off a different vibe compared to the other towns in Fiore. “Oh yeah! That’s what makes it special and the reason I wanted to move here,” she chuckled. Now that was half a lie, because it was only half the reason she wanted to live here. She once dreamed of living together with someone she really cared about in a fancy castle. It would take some time to find or build a castle, but she always thought about it.

Now it was nothing more than a dream, though, and the person she cared about had someone else to care about which got things a little bit complicated, but simply put – that person was surrounded by Joan’s enemies, and she was not going to bother fixing it. If she was happy, Joan was happy. As long as she could keep checking up on her while pretending everything was normal, she was fine.

“I really fit in here, don’t I?” she laughed again. “I could say the same about you. You really stand out with the way you’re dressed. It’s like you’ve put together pieces of trash together to make an outfit.”

Abel was hurt by the lady's comment. Sure, he was usually pretty thickheaded, but the only thing thiker than his head was his ego. Abel couldn't handle criticism, which was going to make his journey of becoming king of the world a little bit harder than it should have been. A small pout that ran down the family came on his face, as he looked at the woman. "My outfit is not trash, thank you very much! Besides, at least I don't have my chest hanging out like apples on a tree!" He said, though to be fair, his outfit was pretty revealing too albeit in a very different way than her's. Also, he was very much too oblivious to notice the fact that he still had little pieces of fruit on him.

He probably wouldn't notice that for the night too, unless the lady in front of him was so kind as to point it out to him. But alas, with the insult that he just threw, he was sure that the two wouldn't be getting along, at least not at first. Then again, there were a lot of weird people in this part of Fiore. Maybe she took pride in that kind of stuff, and would find that it was a compliment? Only time would be able to tell for absolute certina.

Joan was pretty sure – from the expression on his face – that he was at least a bit hurt by what she said. The male then made it clear of this by what he told her next. She wanted to laugh, but she suppressed the urge and only gave him a smile. She looked down at her chest and wiggled a little as if to tease him. “Well, thank you for noticing. Speaking of fruits, it looks like you’re wearing them as part of your outfit. Did you just crawl through some bushes or something? You could use a shower, you know,” she said.

It seemed the two were not going to end up being the best of friends, but sometimes she met strange people during her travels, and this guy might be one of those strange people. She looked at the exposed parts of his outfit and added, “You know if you need more trash to stitch into your outfit, there’s a dumpster right outside. I could show you the way if you want.” This was more enjoyable than she thought. She chuckled and drank half of what was in her glass, then twirled the glass in her hand while smiling at him.

This was it, this woman asked for war and Abel was about to give it to her. Abel was never quite the best at making comebacks, but in this instance he was about to go above and beyond in order to try and show this woman that he in every way possible meant business. It was bad enough that she shook her tree at him too! Abel stood up on instinct, as he would look to his shoulder and brush off the apple pieces he just noticed. Now, what to say... "Well, perhaps you should go to the dumpster with me so that you can throw away your clothes, since you seem to have no problem showing skin!" he said, not noticing that he himself was also showing a large amount of skin.

He sat back down in his chair, taking a small breath to calm himself down. He then would start to go into the 'passive agressive' phase. He took a sip of his drink, spun back to face the woman in front of him once more, and put his elbow on the counter, reclining as he would taunt her. This was an interesting start to his evening. He hadn't even checked out the board yet! "Whenever you're ready!"

Joan was pretty amused with his reaction. He was definitely acting like he was twelve. She watched him stand up, her head raising to meet his eyes. One of her eyebrows were raised as if to ask ‘what are you going to do about it?’ He seemed really heated now, asking her to take him to the dumpster herself so that she could throw away her clothes. Then he sat back down, probably trying to cool off, although it did not seem to work. She felt like she was going to explode with how hard she was trying to suppress laughing like a maniac.

It was like she was watching a monkey show, except she was in it and the monkey could speak, and also spin around on a barstool. It seemed he was pretty serious about the dumpster thing, although Joan said it as a joke. But now that he asked for it, she was going to take up this challenge – not that she was going to take off her clothes though. “Alright,” she started and then grabbed her refilled drink. She downed the whole thing and placed it on the bar. She stood up and then said, “Let’s go.”

Abel
Abel's eyes widened a bit as he would choke a bit on his drink from surprise. Coughing once or twice as it went down the wrong tube, he would stand up, hitting himself on the back so that he would be able to breathe again. "Y-yes, let us go!" he said, as he would begin to lead the way outside to the dumpster. Despite all this, the good manners that his mom burned into him caused him to hold the door open for her on the way out. It was a sub conscious thing, he supposed. It was strange how he lost so many other manners but remembered such a simple thing. Perhaps it was because he was always looking for attention, and holding the door open for people as a kid always got him a lot of thanks from strangers.

Abel, should the lady have followed him, stood outside the dumpster, which didn't really smell as much as it usually did. Abel was going to make this lady pay. Grabbing a small box from the top of the dumpster, Abel punched a whole through it and wore it like a ribbon on his arm. His part was complete, now would she hold her end of the deal? "There we go! I did my job, now will you do your's? Or are you too chicken?"

The vampyress followed him as he led the way. He seemed a little shocked, so she figured he probably was not expecting her to actually take him to the dumpster. As they got to the door, the boy stopped to hold the door for her. Now that they were both standing, she could see that he was just slightly taller than her. If his mother was anything like hers, she would have been very proud of him for having manners. She gave him a faint smile, walking out of the bar first and then led him to the dumpster.

She stood behind him as he reached for a box on top of the dumpster and punched a hole through it to wear it on his arm. Then he asked her to do ‘her job’ which was to take off her clothes and throw it in the dumpster. “That isn’t going to cover all the skin you’re showing,” she said and quickly reached to lift him off his feet and dump him into the dumpster. If this worked, she would say, “Look deeper, I’m sure you’ll find bigger pieces of trash!” If not, they would get into some kind of wrestling match. He was taller than her but she was strong enough.

Abel was going to go in this dumpster no matter how much he could struggle, but he wasn't going alone. As he was shocked, he clung onto the lady in some weird way that could be boiled down to mainly instinct, and as such in the end of it all the two of them were pulled in the dumpster together. Brushing off a garbage bag from his arm, he looked to find the lady and would pout a little once more. "Why did you do that?! Now we both need a shower!" he said, obviously being a bit too concerned with the wrong things at the moment.

Sighing, he would try to open up the lid of the garbage can, which had fell down. He pushed it, and it stayed. Weird. He pushed again and again, but nothing would happen. Then, he gulped. Oh god... he hit the lid as hard as he could, but it still barely budged. Abel looked over to the woman who had been sharing the dumpster with him, and gulped once more as he would have to be the bearer of bad news to her. This was turning into a more interesting night by the minute. "I uh.. have bad news."

"The dumpster... it's sorta.. locked."

Joan did not really think about what her actions could have led to. She did manage to dump him into the dumpster, but the stranger had also managed to bring her with him as well. The moment she fell in, she made sure she was on top so that she could use him as a shield between all the trash and herself. The lid of the dumpster also fell shut. With the little amount of light that seeped in through tiny gaps, she could see that at least she was not buried in disgusting things. “Oh god!” she exclaimed, while the stranger attempted to push the lid off.

The vampyress was too occupied trying to get rid of the little pieces of rubbish clinging to her clothes to notice that they were locked inside a dumpster. Only when the man announced this tragic news, her eyes widened as she tried to push at the lid, but it would not budge. Her expression went from shocked to livid and she turned towards him. She grabbed him by his trashy clothes and shook him roughly while she yelled, “This is all your fault!” and groaned angrily. Now they were going to have to figure out how to get out of the dumpster.

"You were the one that suggested the dumpster in the first place!" Abel exclaimed, as he would notice that the girl was on top of him, blushing a little bit. Why the hell was he feeling embarrassed now?! He was stuck in trash! Before he knew it, the girl was shaking him hard, which made him a little dizzy. Once he had time to speak, he would try to rationalize the situation...

"Oh god we're gonna die, we're gonna die!" He said, as he would have failed to calm down at all. He then worried for a moment longer, before having an idea. "Wait! We just have to wait for that geezer bartender to come dispose something, and we'll be good! He can let us out!" Truly Abel was a genius of the times. For now though, he felt really weird being under this lady. Like, the dumpster was big enough for the both of them to sit separately... this wasn't really necessary, was it? "Err, do you mind getting off me? It's kinda weird when you're on top of me like that!" He said, still with an embarrassed look on his face. Geez, would he really have to spend what could be possibly an hour or more trapped in a dumpster with this girl? This would be so troubling. Not that he hadn't been through worse, though.

Actually, he took that back. This was the worst he had been through.

As she groaned and grunted out of disappointment, she retorted by saying, “Well you were supposed to be the only one in here so I could go and have my drink in peace!” That came out harsher than she wanted, and once she realized this, she shut her mouth and stared at him. It was a pretty damn awkward situation right now with her being on top of him but she did not notice this until he mentioned it. She was too overwhelmed with the thought that they were going to be stuck in here for a very long time.

“Shut up, we’re not going to die!” she yelled, since his panicking was actually not helping and instead was getting on her nerves. She almost slapped him but instead folded her arms and thought of how they were going to get out of this. “Oh wow, genius! Who knows how long it’s going to take before he comes by?” She rolled her eyes and frowned deeply. That was when he mentioned how awkward it was. Joan groaned loudly and pushed herself off him. “This is the worst!” she groaned and punched at the lid, then shook her hand and sighed.

Abel took a deep breath. Man, this was stressful. He felt kinda tired. This girl seemed to hate him, and now he was locked in a dumpster for who knows how long with her. This reminded him of a play he watched, well, he only saw it halfway through due to his low attention span, but.. in the play, the man got stuck in a bad situation and saved the girl, and the girl was so happy with him. Abel wanted fans, so he supposed if he wanted them he would have to work for them. And what better way to earn a new fan by saving this damsel in distress? And himself too, but.. yeah! This damsel in distress! That was th part he should be focused on right now.

Abel thought as hard as he could, to the point where he almost got a headache. He then noticed something. Most garbage cans have a lock that is basically unlocked by pulling it up upwards. There was a small crack where the light was coming in.. if he could find a crowbar or something...

Now, Abel was digging through the trash, before he noticed that the woman was sitting on a bag that had a crowbar under it. "Do you mind standing up? Or like, moving a little bit I mean?"

Joan was pouting with her arms folded over her chest. She just really wanted to get out of the dumpster and so she prayed in her mind to whatever god there was that the bartender would come to dump some trash. She had never wished for something like that. It was the weirdest thing to wish for, to be honest, for someone to come and dump garbage. Even though she did not show it on her face or something, she was kind of panicking inside. There was a tiny gap through which light was coming in, and that was the only way she could see anything, otherwise they would be in complete darkness and that would have been worse.

The stranger started looking for something and so did Joan, even though they were not really cooperating in their efforts to escape the dumpster. “Fine,” she said in response to him asking to move off of something as she moved away. She searched for something to use to break through the gap as well, but a few minutes later, the bartender did come by and they were both saved. “Oh, thank god!” said Joan as the lid was unlocked and squinted slightly at the sudden burst of light in her eyes. She jumped out of the dumpster, patting away any trash that clung to her body. She needed to go back to her inn for a shower now. She fished out some jewels to pay for her drink and shoved it in the bartender’s hands as she headed back to her inn, after saying, “Good luck finding better clothes!” to the stranger she did not even get the name of.

That woman had been making Abel angry all night, and he was thankful when he wouldn't have to put his plan to use and just have the bartender open the door for him. Abel walked back into the bar, ignoring the woman out of spite and just taking a look at the bounty board. He would then notice that this wasn't a bounty board, but rather just a community events board? It seemed he had mistaken what it was. Abel sighed, it seems like he had no longer a reason to stay in this town, not that he liked it in the first place, especially with the events of the last 20 minutes. He would decide to buy a room and just stay until morning when he would depart on his next big adventure.

And so was the opening act of Abel lionel, a man who's stupidity and obliviousness, especially with those of the female gender, is not to be underestimated. His visit in Dahlia was a very short one, but luckily for him it was just the start of a bunch of interesting, funny and hopefully just as entertaining adventures as this one. But for now, it was time to sleep.Goodnight!
