WORDS: 566 | OUTFIT

“Ugghhhh… O-Oh, good, you’re here for the job? W-Wow… I uh, wasn’t expecting someone quite so… Come in, come in.”

The door to the apartment to which she had been directed opening and a slightly groggy and largely stunned young man finding himself before Sofia Serena, as he stumbled over his words and blushed at her from the doorway, the visitor couldn’t help but feel a little charmed by the reception she received. Enjoying the way that her appearance seemed to make him fawn and feeling her ego boosted because of it, the words that were missing from what he had to say were crystal clear and quite flattering to the girl, but there was one thing that wasn’t as pleasurable. A smell that seemed to have been brought straight from the basement of a busy bar and blasted into her face greeting the girl alongside him, as she let that potent aroma wash over her and tried not grimace, the young woman had to think that despite this mixed bag of an introduction she was looking forwards to her day on the whole.

“Thank you so much, Mr Mitya, yes?” The smile she offered feeling a little less forced as the crisp winter air seemed to steal away the worst of the stench from around Sofia and provide her with a little freshness, while the coolest season of the year was far from her favourite right now the azure angel couldn’t help but feel a little glad for it, and even a little bit reluctant to step out of the chill and into the apartment from which the stench had crept. However, needs must, she supposed.

“Ah, that’s right… You’re Sofia, yes?
My Mother is just through here…”

The young man at her front stepping out of the frame and eying her with a mix of curiosity and expectation, though she was perhaps a little hesitant to be cooped up in a place with a person who had clearly spent all of last night and then some drinking, after a deep breath the blue beauty gathered her nerve and stepped inside her ‘workplace’ for the day. Keeping busy with little jobs to earn money for treats and travel expenses as she moved around, whilst some mages might have found the notion of what was babysitting from the other end of the age spectrum tedious and a waste of their talents, the blue haired young woman had found herself jumping on this little request for more than one reason.

“It’s sweet of you to want to keep her company… Are you unable to do that yourself?” Making a little small talk as she moved inside the house and heard the door close behind her, Miss Serena glanced around her environment and found, perhaps as she had expected, it was filled with love. The stench of a heavy night out seeming to cling to her client and the rest of the house seeming to have the aroma that seemed like fresh baking, as the young caretaker glanced at faded photograph’s on the wall she couldn’t help but smile and feel just a little bit at home, this small but charming little apartment appearing to emanate a feeling of love that had been added through years of affection and care.

“Uh, y-yeah… Gotta get going soon, actually, I’ll just introduce you two and then head off…”

WORDS: 571 | OUTFIT

“Hello Mrs Noran~” Stepping into the front room with a smile and immediately focusing on a grey haired but kind faced lady that seemed to be resting in a comfortable chair, with a cheerful greeting that she hoped did not seem too patronizing, Sofia laid eyes on her ‘partner’ for the day and couldn’t help but feel a little bit charmed. Not remembering much of her own grandparents really for one reason or another but having learned that the elderly were a trove of interesting stories and at times deliciously cheeky mentalities, the blue girl had an affection for the generations before her own that seemed to be rarer and rarer as the days went on.

“Oh, hello Muriel! It’s nice to see you again!
Have you done something with your hair?”

Finding a pair of blinking eyes waiting for her that searched for recognition, as a spark in the mind of the older woman fired but did not quite make the connection that she hoped it would, Miss Serena could help but feel a bit sad but did not wish to make the old woman feel bad for her mistake.

“Oh my yes, do you like it? I’ve heard it’s the newest style?” Barely missing a beat as she responded to the old woman like she was a long-time friend whilst pulling the knitted cap off her head to show off the locks that the older woman was so interested in, though it was a bit naughty of the vixen to assume an identity she didn’t know, as she spun around and showed off the curls she was wearing in her long hair the young woman felt it was worse to disappoint Mrs Noran even more. Not knowing exactly who this Muriel was or when the last time her charge might have seen her but happy to assume the name for the day so as to make her more comfortable, it didn’t seem like that big a deal to her at all.

“Oh how lovely, and that colour…
Gorgeous! Isn’t she pretty, Mittie?”

The old woman smiling and looking at Sofia with such interest, even with a lady that was a long over the hill like this the girl couldn’t help but feel flattered by the fondness she showed, giggling gently and batting her eyelashes as Nana Noran tossed compliments toward her.

“U-Um, yeah… I guess so, M-Mother…
Listen, I have to uh, go now, will you be OK?”

Even more amused as she saw the hungover son seem to blush as his mother called him by a little pet name, Miss Serena wasn’t sure whether it was the attention she was giving to her own looks or the fact that she spoke to him like a child that made her client that bashful but it was endearing to see. The introduction she got to the fellow one that was a little unpleasant given the stink of booze he was giving off, it was cute to see that even a man like this could be made into a child again by the right words from his matriarch, and reminded the blue beauty of how her own mother could cut her stern and serious brother back a bit when he was getting too big for his boots without ever being mean to him. It felt like love really could conquer all.

“Of course child, I can take care of myself, don’t you worry! Muriel and I have plenty to catch up on~”

“Goodness, I didn’t think he was ever going to leave… Such a worrywart, isn’t he?”

The man in need of a good strong mint disappearing once the woman in the living room had waved him away, once the front door had thumped shut the old lady let out a sigh and then spoke with a little less sweetness in her voice.

“It’s nice of him to arrange visitors, but sometimes he seems too fussy… Anyway, what’s your name dear?”

The tone of the golden girl still seeming nice and friendly of course but enough of that kind of vacant excitement seeming to vanish that one was given the sudden impression they were only now speaking to the ‘real’ Rynah, even a mischief maker like Miss Serena was a little stunned at the reveal and the skill that her charge had shown in deceiving her.
“M-My name?” Blinking in surprise for a second or two as she found herself for a moment unsure of whether or not she had been played or whether this was just a symptom of the rigours of age, after a moment or two taken to assess the situation and spy the knowing look in those old eyes, the blue beauty realized that it was the former and felt somewhat impressed.

“My yes… I’m not so dotty as to confuse you with Muriel. For one thing, you’re far prettier?
Plus Muriel must be a hundred by now, making it perhaps a cruel act of comparison, now I think of it?

But anyway, tell me dear… Who are you?”

Coming to the job today expecting a woman in her fading years and all too easily accepting a performance that confirmed that, game most certainly recognised game as a smirk spread across the face of the young vixen as she realized she had been outfoxed by this silver haired lady, making her cover a giggle before offering up her response.
“You’re a naughty one, Mrs Noran… I like you~” Giggling and feeling herself almost instantly relax as she found that her friend for the day felt like something of a kindred spirit, a soul who reflected her own with perhaps the benefit of a great deal of experience, Sofia chuckled and raked her fingers back through those long blue locks to keep them framing her face as she settled into a chair near the woman and smiled at her.

“My name is Sofia, Sofia Serena… I’m a visitor to the land of Fiore, looking for excitement and adventure~” Settling in her seat and looking toward a pair of eyes that reflected both curiosity and understanding, the caretaker sunk to one side and rested on her elbow as she picked through the details of herself that she should share.
“And something tells me that I’m not the only person in this apartment who enjoys those things~” Certain items in her personal profile not the kind of things that she should share too easily, the details of her family and departure feeling especially sensitive, Miss Serena was a little wary of revealing too much to others. Figuratively speaking of course, the crispness of the season prevented baring much more than the hint of midriff she displayed in her high jeans and loose sweater when one talked more literally.

“Goodness… I think we’re going to get along, my dear! From another country you say? Yes, your accent… That name.
Seems close to Stellan?”

The sense of interest in the eye of Rynah seeming to only grow stronger and accompanied by a gleam of excitement, as Miss Serena offered up what she could as an introduction the smile of the woman in her arm chair seemed to broaden and she contemplated what she was given for a moment or two, before responding quickly. Picking up on the slight flavour that the fox added to her Fiorian thanks to her foreign heritage, since it wasn’t particularly pronounced thanks to the interest that the blue girl had in language, she found herself impressed by the near guess that the granny took at her origin.

“Close indeed, it's Valerican~” Relaxed by the commonality that she felt she shared with this not so faded femme seemed to show her and giggling at her guess, although maybe with others she might have told a white lie and confirmed an erroneous suspicion so as to throw them off, Sofia was happy to share her county of origin with Miss Noran. Sensing that this sharp minded and experienced elder would likely catch her out before long if she tried to keep up a lie or charade, it was odd but amusing to discover that the supposedly senile senior was the shrewdest character that the island girl had encountered in her time in Orchidia so far, and only made her relish the time they spent together all the more.

“Ohhhh, Valerica, eh? That takes me back… Ooooh, that summer…
Now I like you even more~”

Surprised by the sharpness that Rynah was now shining with but even more shocked when the woman demonstrated more than a little familiarity with her homeland, the look of curiosity and excitement in the eye of the elder seemed to dull a little and be replaced by a mistiness born of sentiment, which intrigued the younger of the duo to no end.

“Heeheeheheee, you’ve been to Valerica~?” Hailing from a small nation that was largely chained to a much more prominent country by ties of alliance and woven royal heritage, though the island that Miss Serena came from retained its own form of monarchy and independent forces of battle, by this stage most considered it a part of Stella. This a useful little factor in the mindset of most folk when the minx wished to work a little act of duplicity on her origin in order to protect herself, at the same time it felt nice to know that her land had not been forgotten by some, due to how much she cherished it.

“Of course, you think I spent my whole life in this armchair?
A young woman has to fly wide from the nest before she settles down, as I’m sure you’re aware…”

“Oh definitely~ A girl has to experience all sorts of things, taste what the world has to offer, before she can think of herself as a woman~” The sapphire eyes of Sofia growing a little bit misty too as she thought of the land she hailed from, the heart of our heroine throbbing as she felt a pang of pain brought on by her longing to see her country again. This passing quickly of course as she was reminded of all the naughtiness she had been up to in the year since she had slipped onto a ship and sailed away from it, while it was a bittersweet departure it was one that the blue beauty knew she needed, and she also knew one day she would return to her home soil. When she was ready to.

“Heeheehee… Sounds like we both have a fair few stories of distant lands to share, Sofia~
How about we whip up some treats and have a nice little natter?
I’d love to share notes with you, and the wisdom that my wrinkles have brought me?”

“You didn’t, right there… On Branca Beach?” The mouth of Miss Serena gaping as she afforded a whole new level of respect to the old woman opposite her, as she imagined the little deed they had been discussing and placed herself in the lead role, the blue beauty couldn’t help but be coloured with a tinge of pinkness as she giggled toward the old lady in the kitchen. Almost as impressed by the brazenness that this silver lady had shown in her story as she had been with the handy way that the woman had whipped together some batter to make biscuits, clearly showing that no force of age could compete with the capacity of a craftswoman nor matter of humility could deter the passion of a young woman.

“Oh goodness me, the things you must be thinking now… Perhaps I shared too much?”

Rynah for her part making at least an effort to seem modest, with the giggly little conversations they had shared so far and the fact that far less colour shone in the cheeks of the old woman for having told her tales and heard what her younger cohort had to offer, it was clear to see that she felt absolutely no shame for what she had done.
“You’ve certainly given me a run for my money… Something to aspire to even! Heeheeheehee~” Sofia liked that. Maybe some frowned on what they saw as misdeeds that were brought on by the adventurousness of youth but she didn’t. It was such a waste of good, hot emotions to keep oneself restrained, she’d rather be liberated.

“Well, if ever you do achieve those aspirations you’ll have to come back and give me all the juicy details, agreed?”

Practically feeling so at home with Mrs Noran by this point that she might as well have been hanging out in the kitchen with her own grandmother, probably on her mother’s side, Miss Serena giggled and nodded at the woman before something about what the old lady was doing drew her attention.
What is that? I’ve never seen ingredients quite like… Looks almost like gemstones…? Largely letting the lady of the house do her thing and hardly paying that much notice to what she was doing, as the silver lady pulled out a jar filled with glittering blue shards the caretaker could hardly believe her eyes at what she saw.

“Uh, y-yeah, sure… Say uh, what…” Almost wanting to intercede as she watched the woman scoop out a handful of what looked to be sapphires with such glistening blueness that they almost marched the beauty of Sofia’s eyes, after spreading them on the worktop and crushing them with the rolling pin to the sound of a popping crunch, the younger of the two felt half mesmerized and half horrified by what she had observed.

“What are those...?” Enjoying the company of Rynah to no end but the worries that others had in the woman’s mind resurfacing as she displayed such an odd action, the mage couldn’t help but raise a little concern masked by a voice of curiosity as she watched what the woman was doing with such odd ingredients. Feeling a little guilty for it of course but not wanting either of them to have treats that were laced with something that looked so very much like crushed glass, Miss Serena couldn’t help but intrude even if she did not wish to offend the woman.

“Oh, these? Odd things to put in cookies, I know, but they’re my secret ingredient!
Don’t worry, they’ll do you know harm, probably the reason I’ve lived to this ripe old age, and taste far better than any sweet or nut…”

WORDS: 542 |  OUTFIT

“…And and given the things I’ve shared I’m sure that you’ll understand I’m not nagging him because I’m some sort of prude, but honestly, My Mittie needs to be careful he doesn’t drink his business away?”

The worries of Sofia allayed somewhat by the gastronomical hand waving she had been given by this experienced elder, while the younger woman retained a little bit of caution about eating cookies that were laden with what looked to be chunks of crystal rather than chocolate, the two had retired to the front room to continue their conversation. The attempt at baking browning in the oven as the two had taken a walk of discussion and ended up in the front room discussing Rynah’s son, the strong smell she had discovered earlier on made sense to the young but shrewd soul now that she knew that he owned a bar and was perhaps a little bit liberal with using his produce to grease his own wheels.

“Yes, we’re both girls who like a good drink, so we’d make terrible bar owners… Temptation right there. It could be hard to ignore…” Seeming a little nervous when sober when she had met him earlier, underneath the hangover at least, perhaps he was using the sauce to alleviate his anxieties about something or other? This happening to be the guess that Miss Serena would have made about the state of the man, with her own taste for ales, wines and even stronger stuff, the vixen had sometimes had to make the effort to avoid ending up in a similar way herself.
“You think that Mitya can’t see that in himself, though?” Perhaps staving off the lure of the intoxication by getting other highs, such as those she felt from broadening her horizons and reaching new heights, the girl could understand how another might get caught in the wicked web that the delicious but devilish demon of drink could weave.

“Oh well I’ve tried to tell him, time and time again but he just treats me like I’m fussing over nothing…
Runs off to his bar whenever he can and comes home stinking drunk…
And after what happened in the kitchen, he thinks I’ve got a screw loose now, I reckon? It’s why he’s hired you?”

The upbeat manner of Miss Noran seeming to sour as she spoke of how her relationship with the apple of her eye had soured because of the difficulties that had occurred between them, Sofia nodded understandingly and couldn’t help but think of how her own relationship with a parent had been unsettled.
“Weirdly, I think I can see this from the other end of the barrel, so to speak?” Shifting in her chair and gazing off into the distance as she thought of what had driven her from her homeland, while the situation didn’t exactly fit what the old lady had been describing there seemed a certain degree of commonality in their relationship. Pea’s in a pod with her mother of course but the patriarch of her family an entirely different kettle of fish, the Valerican vixen couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy for the situation that Mitya found he was in and hoped she might somehow be able to settle it…

WORDS: 643 | OUTFIT

“I uh, my dad was never happy with my um, ‘wild side’ and always lecturing me and…” The father of the blue beauty seeming to always favour her older brother over her, always spend so much more time with him, the vixen couldn’t help but feel like he had never made an effort to understand her or ever approve of her.
“Well, the more he pushed the more I wanted to push back, you know? Maybe I get that from my mother… I’ve always felt closer to her really, but…” Sure she hadn’t been the perfect daughter and not wanting to paint her as such in any way, the wall between the two of them had never seemed to get any thinner or weaker in the experience of Miss Serena.

“It just felt to me like… He never tried? Never tried to see what it was like for me? Never tried to see I could be good too, just in different ways?” Perhaps inheriting more of his stubbornness than she might care to admit, though she had been rambunctious and rowdy when he seemed to desire someone more obedient and obliging, Sofia had been and remained a good girl at heart.
“My mother, she always made me feel special, my uncle Nik too… But other than them…” Giving and kind underneath the heat of her emotions and loving the interest and approval of others, maybe her memory had been poisoned by the more recent recollections but it was hard for the blue girl to see a time when she had felt at peace with the main man in her life.

“I only had my brother and father so… It was hard?” Raised as a largely lonely young girl who had quickly come to realize that the smiles and warmth she received was more for what she was rather than who, it felt especially harsh to think that even members of her family gave their love conditionally. The eyes of Miss Serena stinging a bit as she remembered that, she was glad to have thrown away her status and found people who could appreciate her on the terms she wanted.

“S-Sorry, I think I got carried away on a bit of a tangent there… Just… People who listen, adults, feel hard to come by sometimes?” Realizing that she had perhaps gotten a bit carried away with her pity party after a beat or two of sad reflection, after brushing away a jewel of water that had built up in the corner of her eye, Sofia glanced toward the patient and understanding expression of Rynah and shifted her position. Feeling a little overexposed suddenly and guilty for hijacking a conversation that had supposed to have been about her new friend’s unfortunately familial connections, though the elder opposite her seemed not to begrudge her in this matter even in the slightest way, the vulnerability experienced by youths seemed to overwhelm her all the same.

“I mean I’m not expecting father to sit around and eat cookie dough as I tell him about the boys and girls I like, but…” Rubbing her arm gently as she found her usual sense of outgoing charm suddenly stifled by a feeling of giving out a bit too much information to someone she hardly knew, though Mrs Noran hardly seemed the type to judge her for woes that seemed so childish, airing that laundry made her feel rather self-conscious all the same. If only for a moment or two.
“But… The cookies!” The image of herself nomming a nice, sweet dough straight from the bowl reminding Miss Serena that the conversation was making her casually disregard the goodness they had left baking in the oven, after jumping up to her feet the blue beauty dashed toward the kitchen, hoping she wouldn’t be pulling charcoal from the oven when she got there…

WORDS: 647 | OUTFIT

Safety first~ Skidding into the kitchen and scooping up a nicely padded oven glove before pulling the door to the stove open and retrieving a tray of cookies that were, thankfully, looking a lovely shade of golden brown, Sofia hummed gently as she caught the scent of fresh baking in her nose and eyed the treats rather hungrily.
“They look good~ Glad I remembered in time!” Smiling and taking in the sight and smell of the fresh cookies for a few seconds, while she spied the odd little spot on a couple where that brownness had begun to head toward a darker shade related to destruction, on the whole the serving looked damn fine. The dough looking like someone had fashioned these treats out of pure gold and the shards of that odd, crystal-like material seeming all the more elegant, they were like stones set within jewellery and it almost looked a shame to eat these pieces of art, Almost.

“Oh ho ho ho! Looks like my best batch yet!”

A voice catching the ear of Miss Serena as she stood there, gripping her tray of treats in one hand and mesmerized by the vision she saw in front of them, as Rylah shuffled into the kitchen and broken the spell the blue beauty felt a little guilty for contemplating just gobbling them right then and there. Moving to the nearby counter a little sheepishly and laying the tray in front of the master of bakery like she was presenting them for inspection, next it was the turn of Miss Noran to take a heavy hit on that wonderful aroma, and like the woman that had beat her to the oven so too did the elder coo blissfully at what she saw and smelled.

“Don’t be shy now dearie, have a taste…
These sorts of things are always better the fresher they are, so straight out of the oven they’ll be at their best~”

The woman of the kitchen nodding at her helper and gesturing for her to take one, Sofia seemed almost shy of enjoying the food that was offered and only did so once her host had taken one up and blown on it to cool the cookie down.
“O-OK, is it… Oooh, a little hot…” The visitor removing her thick mitt and lifting one up in response, after passing it between her hands like a hot potato and blowing upon it for a few seconds, she looked toward the woman of the house and nodded before stuffing one into her mouth and moaning almost immediately.

“Ooooopppmmmhhh! S-Shooo goooooooood!” The sweetness and warmth hitting her tongue almost immediately, she was given only a second or two of this soft and enveloping feeling that the dough offered before something else hit her. Hard. All of a sudden a rush of energy seeming to slam into the girl like a tide made of electricity, as Miss Serena swallowed the bite she had taken her form seemed to radiate with vigour and vitality, the very cells that she was made of seeming to crackle with power and potency.

What… Are these crystals? Blinking in surprise at the experience and then wolfing down the rest of her cookie with quite the display of greed, with each mouthful she broke off and forced down her throat Sofia felt her body seeming to sizzle with the strength the cookie would impart. Flooded with vivacity that felt as if she had just slept for a week or two without ever having to close her eyes for a single second, after gaping at the crumbs in her hand the sapphire eyes of our heroine lifted and she looked toward the old lady who had baked this magical marvel for her, confused but clearly happy with the result.

“Not bad eh? Mana Crystal Cookies!
Just the sort of thing to keep any woman feel like a teenager again~”
