I'm a reckless mistake
I'm a cold night's intake

When he said he would wait patiently, he had no idea how difficult it was going to be. Every moment he spent with Akira was a sweet pain that he could neither endure nor get enough of. It was particularly difficult because he knew she was interested as well. He didn’t ask why he had to wait; it didn’t seem like a good idea to ask that question after offering to wait unconditionally. But he was curious. She was always secretive; recently, it had only been worse. He just wished she would share her burden with him so that he could help; if not practically, at least emotionally.

The two had been at Akira’s office the whole evening, clearing it up for the next Captain-Commander. It was a long, awkward, silent evening. One with too many moments of temptation. They had divided the room into two sections. He took the left and she took the right. Her back was turned towards him most of the time and he had to fight the urge to jump over the pile of boxes and hug her from behind. That wouldn’t really be considered ‘waiting’.

The sun had already set by the time they were done. They were on their way to hand over the key to the quartermaster when they met Pagni and Baldanti at the hallway. Haru saluted the Captain-Commander and was glad for his presence. It meant he didn’t need to salute the Captain. Baldanti had a wide grin on his face and Haru didn’t like it one bit. The man was obviously happy that Akira would no longer be in the building, but Haru had a feeling this went beyond that. He looked far too pleased.

Pagni, on the other hand, looked a bit dejected. He turned towards Akira and gave her the slightest hint of a smile. “For what it’s worth, you have my gratitude,” he said. He didn’t elaborate and left it up to interpretation. Baldanti’s grin diminished, but wasn’t entirely gone. Pagni then turned towards Haru and he stood even straighter—which Haru didn’t think was possible. “Lieutenant Hatsuharu. Allow me to give you this great news before it is announced officially. Starting next week, you are promoted to the rank of Captain-Commander. Congratulations,” he said.

Haru was shocked. He looked at Pagni first, then at Akira, and then at Pagni again. It went on for a few more rounds and he looked rather stupid. “I- I don’t understand. You must mean ‘Captain’,” Baldanti intruded, with a dismissive chuckle at the end of that sentence. As much as Haru hated the man, he had to agree with him on this one. Pagni must have misspoken. “I said what I meant,” Pagni confirmed, ignoring Baldanti and answering to Haru instead when he realized he had the same doubt.

“You fought valiantly when the demons came. You earned this,” Pagni added. Haru saluted once more. “Thank you, Sir,” he replied. Haru never really cared about the ranks. But this one felt good because he now outranked Baldanti, who seemed furious.

To add salt to the injury, Pagni went on to offer Akira’s old office to Haru. “You should take over Miss Shimada’s old office. If you choose to be stationed in Orchidia for long, that is,” he said. Haru could see that Baldanti was fuming. Something told him that the Captain was expecting himself to be in the shoes that Haru was in right then. The young twenty-two-year-old fresh Captain-Commander was no saint. He was gloating and looked rather smug whenever his eyes met with Baldanti’s.

“Do me proud,” Pagni said finally, before he nodded and excused himself. The moment the two of them left, Haru turned towards Akira with his arms wide open. He wanted a celebratory hug from his partner. He didn’t want to wait for that.

Akira Shimada

I'm a one night too long
I'm a come on too strong

She didn't want to wait. Every time their arms brushed against one another, or their eyes locked, she could see her temptation reflected in him. Relying on logic and dividing up the office didn't solve the problem in its entirety either. Usually, it wasn't tough for her to be tight-lipped about things, she was a girl of few words. But Tsuru had broken through that ice, he was the only one who could get her talking. So far, she'd only kept things from him out of fear that it'd hamper their relationship. This was the first time, she had to keep a secret for duty's sake... and it wasn't easy.

The sun had begun its descent and then its eventual escape under the horizon, she had been keeping a wary eye on the clock, she'd rather not have the two of them working late into the night. As the sun ducked lower, she began working harder and faster to ensure that they'd wrapped up soon enough. It was kind of him to help her out, maybe she should've just been more responsible and at the risk of being rude, let him know that she was better off alone. He did help accelerate the process though and for that she was grateful, it'd have been far slower and by extension far more painful having to empty out her office by herself.

She surveyed the empty office one last time as they exited it, closing the door behind her and locking it had an unpleasant air of finality, despite it not really being the case. She wondered how much more intense this emotional upheaval would be, had her resignation been more than just a facade for her goals. Walking a pace behind her partner, or ex-partner rather, she was hoping that handing over her keys would be an uneventful venture. Unfortunately, Aki's hopes rarely became a reality. They ran into Pagni and Baldanti on the way.

Pagni was despondent as usual and in stark contrast to the one accompanying him. Absently, he almost ran into Akira, pausing he thanked her, much to Baldanti's befuddlement. The Shimada too, was left a tad confused. Does he know? she wondered. She simply nodded, not trusting herself to use words around someone as vile and despicable as Baldanti. He had been eyeing the keys in her hands with blatant greed, almost as though he was ready to just reach out and snatch it from her. Pagni however had other plans... other very surprising plans.

When the news was delivered by the fellow Commander, the Shimada had to do all she could to suppress the smirk that threatened to etch itself across her face. She pulled off her usual impassiveness, with a slightly detached bemusement at the unexpectedness of the circumstance. Baldanti was having none of it, but it would seem that Pagni was not really paying much heed to the protest as he confirmed the promotion. Noticing the fleeting malice in Baldanti's eyes made her blood run cold though. Baldanti followed his superior, muttering his dissent no doubt. Despite feeling pride bloom in her heart, the Shimada's usual skepticism chipped away at the moment.

When they were alone again, Tsuru held open his arms for a hug. Akira shook her head, her fingers clasping his wrists and gently forcing him to lower his limbs. 'Not here.' Her words were a strained whisper, if one didn't know better, they could assume she was salty about having to give up her post to her partner, it was unlikely that Tsuru would think of it that way though. It was Baldanti's apparent unhappiness that set her off. It couldn't mean anything good for Tsuru. Pagni's decision had just earned the Joyan man a target on his back. In an attempt to make light of the situation and to avoid dampning her ex-partner's joy too much, she managed a wry smile, looking into the distance she wrought a playful challenge of her own. 'He may have offered you my office, but you still have to earn the keys from me.

All my life
I've been living in the fast lane

I'm a rollin' freight train

The fact that Baldanti was very upset didn’t faze Haru. He was under the impression that the spiteful Captain was already defeated by this promotion and he wouldn’t be able to do much against him. A naïve thought. It would seem Akira knew better. She gently rejected his hug on account of their current location. Haru was in a great mood. So, he didn’t think much of the rejected hug. Besides, he was rather distracted by that playful smile and the challenge she posed after.

“Ooh…” he responded, returning the smile. “I wonder what that entails. Dinner? Movie? Or just a stroll in the moonlit forest?” he guessed, conveniently avoiding the one thing that he knew she meant.

She had been helping him get his magic under control. He had gotten used to fighting without it, but why waste the potential? The promotion was good news. It brought with it a rush of excitement and happiness. But that wasn’t all. Jumping two ranks up also meant he will now have to deal with far dangerous criminals. And he better be prepared for that.

While he worried about the enemies that he could see, there was the also the issue of politics now that he was close to the top. The swordsman was oblivious to it and more than the magic, he needed his ex-partner to educate him on that. She would have her job cut out for her, for this was something that he didn’t even know he needed.

If she chided him for not taking the training seriously, he would bite his lower lip and give a meek apology that he didn’t mean. “How about we go to the forest? There’ll be no one there. We could train there freely. If I did well, you could give me the keys and… that celebratory hug,” he added the last bit with much emphasis, making it obvious that it was the most important part of the reward.

One more time
Gotta start all over
Can't slow down
I'm a lone red rover

She cocked her head, when she realised that the import of the moment truly escaped Tsuru. She'd had no one to celebrate her own rank up with and she'd fallen prey to politics and lost that status in its official capacity too soon. She didn't want the same to happen to him. However, such wisdom had to imparted in bite-sizes rather than force-fed to a friend. Repeatedly announcing that she didn't think he was ready for what the job was going to entail, would only make him resent her company.

She was certain that he understood what she meant, but gleaned pleasure from stating other lucrative options. 'The last option could certainly feature, I'm serious though... You're really going to have to earn your keys and they're worth it, my office has the best view and everything.' she said, maintaining the jovial note in her voice. The forest had been the very first place that she and Tsuru had almost acknowledged the feelings they had for one another. It was also the spot that had forced Akira to make decisions that tore the two apart for two years. Maybe it'd help them come full circle, understand the gravity of their responsibilities but also rejoice in the joy of companionship, acceptance and forgiveness.

He seemed on board with them heading to the forest. 'I'm going to make sure that's a big if, my hugs are precious.' she teased. She asked him to meet her there in sometime. The Shimada didn't explain her reasoning to him, but it was because she wanted to avoid leaving the Rune Knight quarters by his side. He probably wouldn't see the issue with them being seen together, but she knew better. She knew that she'd gone out of her way to make enemies and that her line of duty allowed and encouraged it. But if he continued to fraternise with her, the friction would spill over and his newfound authority would be tarnished before he had a chance to exercise it. Fighting the plague of these burdening realities, she ambled towards the forest.

There was peace to be gleaned as the lush greenery thickened around her and the bustle of the town faded behind her. The very first time the two of them had trained together had also been amidst the trees, in a small clearing... Nothing much had changed in that aspect, except they may need a slightly larger clearing, or not... depending on Tsuru's mastery.

I'm a hold my cards close

The possibility of joining her in one of her late-night walk under the moonlight in the middle of the lush Orchidian forest was encouraging enough. There was much to do and he knew she wasn’t easy to impress. He couldn’t wait to get started. But, she asked him to join her at the forest a bit later. She didn’t tell him why; the young woman seldom gave the reasons behind her actions and he had gotten used to it. “Alright. I’ll see you soon,” he said, a little less enthusiastically than he was moments ago. He stood there smiling, watching her walk away; yet another reminder of how difficult this whole waiting business was going to be.

Fifteen minutes. That’s how long he waited before he began walking towards the forest briskly. The news had spread like fire and there was a group waiting to congratulate him around every corner. He had to stop and thank them, but he didn’t want to. It’s not that he didn’t appreciate their praise; he was just very excited to get to Akira. So, he had to lie about an urgent case that needed his attention to excuse himself from all the quick-party invitations. He definitely wasn’t going to impress anyone—let alone Akira—if he turned up drunk for training.

Had he known he was going to be stopped by so many groups, he wouldn’t have waited those fifteen minutes. By the time he reached the forest, he was at least a half-hour behind. “Hey! Sorry. I got caught up,” he apologized once he was within earshot of her. He was fully equipped. He knew he would mostly be relying on that amulet she gave him to sense her spells, so that he could try to null it. And in case he failed at that, his sword and cloak should protect him… he hoped.

I'm a wreck what I love most

She sat on a mossy rock, plucking blades of grass. In these idle moments, she tore the blades lengthwise and then knotted them together, in an attempt to wrought something pretty, quaint and transient with them. While she managed to make something, it wasn't exactly what she'd envisioned, so she tossed it away with an impatient sigh. She was glad that the time between their arrival was long enough to prevent anyone suspecting their little escapade, but that didn't make it any easier for her to sit around and wait. Especially, because she too was looking forward to stolen solitary minutes with him. She hated to admit how much she'd grown used to his company and how much she enjoyed it regardless of whether the atmosphere between them was, tense or cheerful... or just silent.

There was a frame of time, when she wondered if he was going to make it to her at all. He had just been promoted, maybe the expected him for something, but if it was something of grave import, Pagni would've requested his continued presence at the headquarters when he gave Tsuru the news. With difficulty she pushed such thoughts away, even if he truly couldn't make it, he didn't really owe it to her. She'd asked him to wait and he did have his own duties to attend to, no doubt. Today, was just a bonus and perhaps a test.

Before she made her decision to get up and leave, she heard his voice. He apologized from a distance and as she looked up at him, she also raised her hand to cast a spell that targeted the ground right in front of his feet. 'Well, no point wasting any more time then, right?' she chided. Since this was the very first spell she shot, she wanted to make sure they broke each other into the training dynamics, she knew his magic was wonky and hers was unreliably destructive, the last thing she wanted to do was cripple him. Targeting him straightaway would've been more accurate in displaying what they could be up against, but it was too risky.

The response to his apology was a blast shot right near his feet. He had not expected her to start without any warning. While his amulet let him sense the spell head towards him, the sudden act caught him by surprise and all he could do was take a step back. If she had aimed right, she would have probably got him.

“Someone’s eager,” he said with a smirk. She was right. There was no point drawing it out. The faster he got his magic under control, the more confident he can be when he went on missions. Besides, there was also the more immediate reward that they discussed if he did well that evening.

Haru reached for his lightsabre. At first, he thought he would do this without relying on his weapon. But seeing how aggressively eager his training partner was, he figured it was best to start off with the thing he was most familiar with. Perhaps, it was for the best that he learned to use his sword in tandem with his magic from the start.

With his glowing sabre at the ready, he took a defensive stance. After a deep breath, he focused and was set to begin. He tried to remember the last time he tried to use his magic at Akira’s place. Neither of them knew what had happened, but her spell didn’t make contact with the vase that she had targeted. He had attempted to redirect it, like he used to when he had a functional magic. However, he wasn’t certain if he was successful or if Akira had missed; she too was grappling with the change within her back then, after all.

Perhaps, with this amulet that she gave him, things would become clearer. Even if her spells were invisible, they were made of mana and he could now figure out how his magic interacted with hers.

I am a head case
I am the color of boom
That's never arriving

She reflected his smirk, but didn't respond with words. Speaking was a waste of breath and energy, she'd grown up believing that, simply because ever so often her words had fallen on deaf ears. That belief didn't change and in a way, it aided in adding weight to her words and suggestions when she did make the effort. Tsuru was still an exception, but she needed to imprint upon him the seriousness of this training. It was already tough trying to balance being a reasonable threat and yet not putting him into any real danger while he discovered his capabilities.

Over-confidently, she remained perched on the rock for the time being and merely held out her hand yet again. The Shimada took a moment to aim her spell carefully. She intended to unleash a beam, that'd narrowly miss his side, if he successfully nullified her spell, there would be no fallout behind him. If not, the tall blades of grass behind him were likely to be evidence of her wreckage. She hadn't begun channelling her mana into the tips of her fingers. But she noticed him brandishing his sword at her. She'd expected her role to be more of a guide and a teacher, she didn't consider the fact that she may have to put effort in evading his offenses too.

Her eyebrows rose, as a challenge. It still didn't prickle her enough for her to take any serious risks yet. Probably because he'd merely taken a defensive stance and not attempted attacking her. She stood up, in acknowledgement of the slight escalation in their training venture. Realigning her hand accordingly, she stuck with the original plan and attempted to direct a spell to his side, hoping to narrowly miss his ear. Let's see what he does with this, now.

And you are the pay raise

Akira didn’t get off the rock she was sitting on. He figured she didn’t need to, considering he was the one training and she was just helping him. Haru didn’t plan on using his sabre offensively. It was mostly a very thin shield for the occasion.

She took a moment to aim this time and he was ready for it. It was weird that he could see nothing appear out of the magic circle in front of her; especially when he knew there was something heading his way. He instinctively lunged a short distance to the right to avoid the spell. However, immediately after he had side-stepped the incoming spell, he realized dodging was not what he was supposed to training. So, instead, he focused his mana at where her spell was.

He didn’t need to channel his mana through any of his limbs. The last time they trained like this, he realized that he was capable of simply expelling mana in a short radius around him to create a ‘shield’. He still hadn’t realized the exact nature of his magic and was under the belief that the mana he was expelling was akin to a defensive spell.

However, this time, he noticed something different. When he focused his mana towards where Akira’s spell was, he didn’t feel his mana anywhere else around him. Just near her spell. The moment his magical energy came into contact with hers, the section where they met disappeared into nothing. Akira’s cylindrical spell was cut into a crescent. This was apparent by the way the grass was cleared in the area behind him.

He was finally getting the feeling that his magic was not just a typical defensive spell. It was as though his magical energy negated anything that it came into contact with, so long as it was equally powerful. Furthermore, unlike before, he seemed to have control over where this happened around him. He needed to confirm his theory.

“Shoot two different spells to my sides. One weak. One strong,” he requested, looking up at Akira.

Oh, how did come to this?
Love is a polaroid

She had nothing to witness as their spells interacted. However, as planned, she waited to see the fallout in the grass around them. She noticed that a part of her spell had been allegedly chunked away, while the rest slipped past whatever Tsuru did and left a neat crescent shaped patch in the grass. The tall blades were uprooted and destroyed but Tsuru remained unharmed. She'd deduced that his magic allowed him to simply disperse incoming spells, which could make him a considerable menace to mages like her, especially with the gift she'd given him.

She wanted to test the limitations of this magic as much as he did, which was made apparent from his next request. He wanted her to shoot two spells this time, of varying power. This was something she had already considered, and was about to perform next even without his appeal. It only seemed to be the next challenge in the natural progression of things. However, she also intended on eventually attacking in a more unexpected manner to see if he could channel his magic more spontaneously.

There was still a lot for her to glean and help him realize. She simply nodded and indulged his request. For the moment she slung the spells one after another, in quick succession, the weaker being followed up by the stronger. This time, she also aimed for him. They were relatively large spells, she knew this from her own training ventures. He could still probably dodge them, but she made sure that it would not be easy this time. She did so risking a little damage to him should he fumble with his magic, but also to test if it responded to him better in the face of potential danger.

Never can fill the void

The spells weren’t shot to his sides. They were shot straight at him. He frowned and smirked at the same time. The first one was bigger than the one that followed it. Figuring it was the strong followed by the weak, he first focused a larger amount of mana to dispel the leading one. It worked, but only a few meters around him. The rest of the spell went through behind him. Moreover, when he tried to null the second one as well in quick succession, he failed. Before he could focus the right amount of mana at the right location, the spell had already reached too close.

Realizing he had no time to try and null it again, he decided to use his sword to dampen the impact. A small part of the shockwave was stopped by the sword, but the rest shot through, hitting him all over his front and knocking him several meters behind. He heard bells ringing and put a finger in his ear instinctively, even though he knew it was of no use. The ringing was within his head and wasn’t from any external source.

Shaking his head, he walked ahead, ready for another round. His failure was simply due to his lack of experience and he knew it. All he had to do was keep doing it until he mastered negating the things that entered his range at the right time with the right amount of mana. And if he could do it with invisible spells, relying only on his ability to sense mana, it would only be much easier against spells he could also see.

“Again,” he said, redundantly. He knew she was far from impressed and he wasn’t ending the day without accomplishing that. A couple more hits like this and it was highly likely that his sabre would break. He had to be careful with that. Not many smiths knew how to fix his lightsabre and the ones who did were really hard to get a hold of. He figured he could use this opportunity to learn to react quickly and dodge even when the spells get too close. His magic might be formidable. However, he still hadn’t entirely mastered it. Besides, even after he did master it, it was reliant on how much mana he had, and there were many out there who had a deeper pool and were far more efficient at using it. In fact, the one he was facing right then fit that bill.

She glowered out of concern. For some reason, she'd expected him to do better, was he not motivated enough? She chewed on her lips and tapped her foot. Mighty convenient for her to be so haughty simply because she had gotten lucky and had aid in getting her magic under control. Not to mention, her work and information gathering techniques put her at a constant risk and so she was bestowed with the gift that made it difficult for her to be taken down with ease.

Little did the Shimada realize that if she was stripped of all her recent acquisitions, she would probably find herself in a state worse than her partner and in a spot far more precarious and dangerous than the one he was in... and he was already pretty vulnerable, especially because of his recent promotion and his continued allegiance with her.

He had never been the impatient with her, though she knew he was capable of giving into his temper when people around him failed repeatedly. But she knew that he would probably have been far kinder if the circumstances were reversed, or even in general, if she was the one on the recieving end of this training. She wasn't too happy with the fact that her spell had hit him, but she knew she wasn't in the position to hold back and needed to continue motivating him and coaxing his magic to be forced to protect him.

Her annoyance melted when he showed resolve. For the time being, she cast similar spells yet again, except these were the explosive variety. So if they connected with something she'd be in the blast zone, but the Shimada had grown too reliant on her protective orb.

I'm a day late two face
I'm a burn out quick pace

That wasn’t the last failure of the day. He asked for multiple spells to be thrown at him over and over and he failed multiple times. Each time for a different reason. And each time learning something about his magic. As he nulled the spells that came towards him, a small area around him were protected by his magic, but things beyond that circle seemed to be devastated. With him being forced to dodge—especially in the early stages when he still hadn’t gotten the grasp of his magic—the training session left the entire clearing barren. Her invisible shockwaves that were beyond his range had systematically shaved the area of all the grass.

Akira was relentless. Thanks to her orb, she had no fear of injuries. Not just from Haru in case he went on the offensive. But also from her own spells. In fact, there were times when she deliberately hit herself with her own spells—using its knockback effect to quickly reposition herself and sling more spells from a different, unexpected angle. If he didn’t have that amulet she gave him, he would be toast. For a moment, he actually felt bad for the poor sods that she was going to fight seriously.

It took a while, but he gained confidence eventually. And when he did, it was time to show off. Lunging to the middle of the clearing, he plunged his sabre into the ground and sat down with his eyes closed—as if he was meditating. He would then proceed to null everything that was thrown at him without fail. His lips turned into a playful smile when he realized how much more efficient he could be with this power, when he was trying to protect people.

Unfortunately for him, he was a little too lost in thought, fantasizing about how he could make confrontations less violent and just mentally frustrating for his opponent. Distracted, he didn’t realize that he was running out of mana. So, when one more spell came towards him, he couldn’t null it. Since he was sitting, it was too late to dodge. The spell made contact and he was thrown back.

It hurt a fair bit, but wasn’t very crippling thanks to his armour. As he was flung back to the edge of the clearing—where the grass was spared—he lay on the soft green bed of nature without moving. It wasn’t that he couldn’t move; he just chose not to. He knew he was done for the evening. He had no mana left to train with. So, he just lay there, staring at the beautiful sky. The sun had set recently, but its orange hue was still lagging behind. The stars began to peek through on the darker end of the sky. He smiled, remembering the last time the two of them were here.

As he got bolder, so did she. When he mustered enough confidence in his ability that he simply volunteered to be a target for her to practice, she grew more and more eager to test her own limits. Perhaps she should have realized that no magic worked without a cost and that there had to be a pool of resource that he had been tapping into... a depleting pool. It was just that he showed no sign of struggle. While her attacks got more extravagant, he didn't so much as flinch... Till the last one.

She gasped, her usually narrowed eyes widened, with a concern that was much deeper than before. It felt like his body flew in slow motion before it landed in the soft tuft of grass. It left her horrified as he lay there motionless. She could no longer even recall which spell she'd used, so in that moment of peaking anxiety, it was impossible for her to gauge the damage he'd suffered. The only option was to survey his state in person. In just over a second, she had leaped to his side. Her fingers almost clawed at the chest behind the robes that lay in tatters. When she noticed that there was a prideful glimmer in his open eyes, her fingers clenched into a fist and she drummed his ribs in frustrated playfulness. 'You scared the crap outta me, why didn't you say you were fine?' she scolded.

Finally, when the relief that came with his well-being settled into her, she flopped into the grass besides him, opting to stare up into the sky too. 'You did good...' she said, softly, there was no condescension in her voice, nor authority, it was simply an observation. Something about the air around them morphed, the destruction around them lay forgotten and the tall grass that framed the magically-trimmed variety, had given them their own little haven.

It was as though the same memory tiptoed into their minds, she turned her face to lay her eyes on him instead of the inky sky overhead. Her hand acted out of its own accord as her fingers searched for the spaces between his. Soon, it wasn't just her hand, but she felt her whole body slide just a tad closer to his, so her chin was cradled by his shoulder, while her cheek remained buried in the grass.

I’m gonna get ready
For the rain to pour heavy

He bit his lower lip, trying to control his giggle when she chided him. Of course, he knew she would be concerned. He just wanted to see how much.

His gaze shifted from the sky to her face. Against the purple backdrop of the darkening sky, with the glowing orb over her head and her glistening eyes, she truly was a beautiful angel. He tilted his head slightly and smiled as her expression softened. With how aloof and distant she looked all the time, this change was most rare and surprising. And the best part was that the surprise didn’t end there.

She lay next to him on the grass—like she did two years ago—and told him that he did well. He knew she meant those words and was happy that he could succeed at impressing her. What she did after that threw the whole ‘waiting’ thing out the window. Her fingers intertwined with his and she slid closer, resting her chin against his shoulder. Maybe she was just delivering on the promised hug. But this was more intimate than a celebratory hug—or perhaps that was how he wanted to see it.

The moment was there. He had to choose. Was he going to remind her that she had asked him to wait? It was an easy choice. He did not want to remind her. He wanted to be with her. There was a meek voice at the back of his head that warned him that she might regret it the next day and he would lose her forever over one evening. He ignored it and listened to the much louder voice of his desires.

He rolled over—gently, but with urgency—to be on top of her. If she didn’t resist him, he would lower his head and meet her lips with his. Just a peck. He pulled away slightly to see her reaction. “I don’t want to wait,” he admitted in a whisper, before kissing her again. It was much deeper, more passionate than before, and he didn’t want to end it. His hands ran up her sides. He held her gently as his lips trailed down her neck…

--

It was almost midnight. He was lying next to her almost in the same way as in the beginning. Her fingers curling around his and her chin against his shoulder. He turned to his side to face her. His eyes searched for the emotions in hers. Haru’s emotions were plain as day; he was ecstatic and nervous. Ecstatic because they were together; nervous because he wasn’t sure if they will continue to be. His lightsabre was still alight; it remained where it was lodged in the ground. He shifted his gaze to the glowing blade as his smile froze in his anxiety.

He knew words weren’t necessary. There was a much easier and natural way to find out if she didn’t regret it all. He turned to her and leaned in for a kiss. If she kissed him, that would be answer enough.

Akira Shimada

Oh, let it fall, fall
Let it fall upon my head

Just for a moment, she could afford to go easy on herself and just surrender to the shared intimacy... Couldn't she? She did. There was no reeling back once their desires had taken hold of them. This reflected poorly on her and not him, since he was never aware of the reasons Akira wished to wait, he had simply attempted being the gentleman who wished to play this by her rules. But no longer. Rules be damned. When he pulled away, she felt herself leaning into him, issuing the faintest note of protest as he spoke. She didn't waste her breath on words and punctuated his with a kiss that he returned with a newfound yearning...

~~~
He didn't know of the storm that was brewing and she'd just selfishly dragged him deeper into it. But those dark clouds fled, ironically, out of her mind and seemingly into sky above them. They became a curtain call to the serene show of the moon and starlight. The dark clouds billowed thickly over them, till a crack of lightning stole the thunder from the pin-pricks of light and the glowing saber in the distance. Reality was encroaching on their moment, for the time being shelter from the impending rain took utmost priority.
The undivided attention, despite the threat of the cloudburst was as flattering as it was unnerving. It reflected his oblivious reality. His regard for her rested upon her like a burden that her duty did not allow her to reciprocate. She pulled his hand closer to herself and returned his kiss yet again, tempted by the easy, ignoring the tempest. Finally, she broke the kiss and found utterance, as the first fat drop of rain splattered against her cheek. 'It is late enough... Let's go back to my place.' she said simply. Her actions probably didn't inspire the faith anyone in love would wish for... It was obvious their feelings were mutual and ran much deeper than mere infatuation.
Squinting and cowering against the assaulting downpour, to lone figures raced back into the city... Only for her to give into her weakness yet again... and then some more.
