Today, she wandered alone, wandering the little stalls and shops that begun to set up. She had danced around the petals, enjoying the town for what it was. It was a festival full of new faces and old ones, but none she would remember. It didn't matter. Nothing mattered. No one mattered.

She stood there, waiting for a man to start the stove. She did not wear a kimono, but rather a patterned shirt with pants to match them. It was the early hours of the day, far before noon. The sun had barely even begun to cast light down upon them. The sky, a brilliant orange hue. But it didn't matter.

What mattered was the girl's hunger as she waited for the man to set up his food stall. Whatever he was cooking, she was buying. Anything to sedate her hunger, at least for now. . .

For others, this was a place to celebrate and live carefree. But for her, the rumors spilled from Phantom Lord would all but leave her restless, at least for now. But right now, all that mattered was filling her belly. Even her own pet groaned at her side. The small white haired creature waiting her next meal, just like her master.

It was still early when Joan came to the festival that day. In about an hour or so, however, people from all over Fiore would flock together and squeeze into the space that was confined for the festival. This didn’t bother Joan as much as it would have if she wasn’t feeling exceptionally blissful. She had been experiencing a variety of positive emotions for the past week or so and the cause of this was clear.

On this day, however, her source of happiness didn’t accompany her to the festival, simply because she didn’t have to. They weren’t joined at the hip, and Joan wasn’t going to force her to follow her around because she wasn’t her escort or something. They were together most of the time, but Joan liked to spare some time for herself. It was a habit of hers. She would probably go insane if she didn’t take those alone times.

There weren’t many stalls ready for customers yet, but Joan caught sight of a single stall with a customer. Since it was the only stall that was open at this time, she took a seat next to the white-haired cat lady. Looking at the stall decorations, Joan realized that the stall sold noodles cooked in a variety of ways. The images made everything look super delicious and almost made her drool. As the man started up the stove, she turned her head to face the only other customer and offered her a smile.

“Quite the early birds, aren’t we?”

Her fox sat between her legs as she sat there waiting for the man to set up. She had made it quite apparent that she was first in line, and would not allow other wise. Another woman took the seat beside her, words spilling from her mouth. Nameless was half awake, catching her words in mid thought.

"Early bird gets the worm, but I just want some noodles." she pointed at one of the pictures of noodles, only to point at one that seemed to have some kind of octopus or squid and some other meat. "Actually, scratch what I said earlier lemme get it with that." she said, pointing like a child in a candy shop choosing their next treat, "You don't gotta really cook it either. I like it raw, a lil bloody if you can."

She had a hunger for blood and flesh. She would never be able to remember the origins for why, nor when she had her first taste. Her tongue traced the ends of her teeth, dancing around waiting to bite down on her next prey.

She would yawn afterwards, stretching as she did so. Her fingers would interlock and reach over her head. She would lean forward, her hair falling away from her neck to show the marking that was seared into her flesh. She wouldn't know what any of the markings met, nor that they existed, except for the larger tribal markings hidden under her shirt and tank top. After her hands would rest in her lap and she would return to her normal seat.

She'd turn to the woman beside her, trying to kill time to forget her own hunger, "This ya first bite today too?" she'd ask.

It was a coincidence that the stranger spoke the saying that came to Joan’s mind. ‘Early bird gets the worm’. Her lips curled into a sly smile as she followed the woman’s finger. Joan herself hadn’t made her order, seeing how the owner of the stall was still setting up. What the cat lady pointed at next didn’t interest her, but what she said definitely caught Joan’s attention. She was having a hard time interpreting it. Was it meant to be a joke, or did she really like raw and bloody food?

“Good taste,” said Joan, facing forward as she watched the man working hard to prepare food for his customers. The vampyress noticed the furry little animal that sat between the lady’s legs. She figured it was probably her pet. It almost looked like a little cloud just sitting there. Joan had never had a pet of her own, so she didn’t know what it was like to have one. All she knew when she caught sight of the floofball was that she wanted to squeeze it to death.

Joan was brought out of her reverie (in which she was thinking about squishing other people’s pets to death), when the stranger asked if this was her first meal of the day. “Not really,” she said. On her way to the festival, she found a lone wanderer in a forest that wasn’t too far from the festival venue. Of course, she wasn’t going to pass up golden opportunities like that to have fresh food once in a while. It was apparently easier to go unnoticed about these things in Orchidia than it was back in Magnolia. Pretending to be a ‘good’ person was hard, especially when she was a vampyre who had needs that were associated with killing.

However, she wasn’t going to talk about how she just killed someone for breakfast in a forest before coming to the festival to someone she just met even though they talked about liking their food raw and bloody. “I guess my first meal wasn’t really filling,” she said.

She was one with a knack for the coincidence, or in her case was nothing but sheer misfortune. Everything was a slippery slope downwards full of moments she forced for her own amusement, only to result in punishment. She would catch the woman eyeing her pet, only to slide Zuzu's rear along the ground, closer to the woman. It wasn't so much that she knew that the girl had wanted to play with her, but she knew well enough that Zuzu hated being touched by other people, and Nameless found her struggles amusing.

"That's unfortunyet." she'd say, "Anything I'd sink my fangs into should fill me, not make me feel empty." She sighed, the thought of buying any food that didn't fill her up would be disappointing. Almost a waste of money.

She shoved Zuzu over, knocking her down, almost laughing. But she would keep her composure. Well, they were already talking, there was no reason to not introduce herself. She sat there, silent, trying to figure how she could. She didn't have a name, so what would she say?

"Man, this sucks." she'd say softly to herself, almost panicking on the inside. What should she say?

"uh, what you gonna order?" she'd lean over to ask.

“Heh.” If she was observant enough, the cat lady would catch a glimpse of Joan’s vampyric fangs for just the second during which she flashed them after hearing the mention of fangs. She couldn’t help it. Everything this stranger was saying hinted at vampyrism. First, she mentioned bloody food, and now she was talking about fangs. Joan was pretty sure from how natural her cat ears looked, that the person sitting next to her was a neko. The vampyress had never met one personally, so this was her first time. She knew of them, however, since she had read about them before. “You don’t always get what you want,” said Joan, turning towards the cat lady with a twisted smile.

Joan noticed how the mini cloud creature was getting closer to her. She did nothing but watch it with the intent to tear it apart. If the little animal was paying any attention to her expression, it would be intimidated by the way it was being looked at. Of course Joan remained still in her seat, simply observing the pet. As she was doing so, she caught what the cat lady said to herself, only because she was paying extra attention. She pretended like she didn’t, and raised her head to face the neko when she asked what Joan was going to order.

Turning back to see the noodle pictures, Joan’s eyes landed on the one that appeared most appetizing. She pointed at it, saying, “That one.” The owner of the stall noticed that they were talking about making orders and nodded at Joan. “Go on, make your order,” she said to the cat lady while the man was paying attention to them. “Tell me your name after.”

She'd glance over at the woman's laugh, swearing she saw fangs. Was she a neko in disguise?  There was no reason for her to ask, it was as dumb as asking if someone was human or not. The question that remained was where her ears were, if she had ears. Maybe she was a half-neko?

"That'll be the day," she'd say, watching her twist into an odd and creepy smile. She started to give off a creepy aunt vibe. But she was trapped here, at least in conversation.

"You can't ask for a fresh meal if you don't expect a good huntin'. she nudged her pet again, only to pick her up after and place her between her and the other woman.

"Just two bowls with ya freshest meat." she'd say to the man. She turned back to the woman, only to be stuck in a situation she had begun to dislike. "Everyone calls me Nameless, but I guess you can call me Miss Manji." she'd shove her pet a little closer to her. "You can pet her if ya want. She doesn't bite. But she'll suck ya wallet dry. Got a bottomless stomach."

She'd internally laugh at all of her own jokes, but she would never grasp that they had all become double entendres.

Joan smiled at what the stranger said, growing more and more curious by the second. After she made her order, the cat lady said something that caused the vampyress’ eyes to widen. She remembered clearly that the woman called Manji mentioned a ‘Nameless’. In fact, if what she recalled was correct, this ‘Nameless’ entity was supposed to be a goddess. “Miss Manji?” asked Joan in disbelief. “Nameless…I remember that Chi told me about you. I never thought that you were…a cat.”

The vampyress took a look at the fluffy creature that was shoved towards her. The Nameless person invited her to pet it, but Joan only watched it. She was more interested in the connection between Nameless and Chi because of how Nameless asked to be addressed as ‘Miss Manji’. Soon the stall owner brought their orders and placed the hot bowls in front of them. It was impressive how fast he made them, but Joan figured that it was probably a result of having to deal with the massive influx of customers at the festival.

Picking up her chopsticks, Joan began to eat. She wasn’t especially hungry, so she ate slowly, trying to have a conversation with Nameless. She wanted to know where Chi was, even though she wasn’t sure if Nameless would know. After all, she was supposed to be a goddess, and Joan didn’t know if goddesses kept tabs on their followers. She remembered that Bodak told her about Chi, but that was a while back, so it was probably outdated information. “Where is Chi, anyway?”

So, it seemed that perhaps the most reclusive of her bloodline had after all, made from friends. Perhaps she found somewhere to welcome her own inhumanity. Nameless clenched her fists, her nails digging into her palms, blood beginning to surface. As the man would bring over their food, Nameless would retrieve her two bowls, only to set one in her lap, and one to the side for her pet.

She held the bowl of ramen, her palms bloodied, unknown to her. A scent familiar to one that could remember. "Cats have nine lives right?" she'd say, "You only need to come back once to make them think you're a god." she'd say it with laughter, even though none of it was amusing to her.

She would listen to the last words again, replaying in her mind until she could conjure a good enough answer. "Before I answer where she is, can you tell me anything specific about her, that only she would have, physically? Like a scar?" it was a weird question to ask, but not as weird as her answer.

Whatever it was, a scar or a birthmark, Nameless would bear the same. After all, it was still Chisu's body.

"Well anyways-" she continue, only yo have her animal sprint off in another direction. Wherever she was going, it wasn't where they were. She didn't seem to have any intentions of returning.

Nameless would have stopped her normally, but for now she would let her have her fun, for at least a few moments longer. Nameless would begin to draw her claws, just an inch from her hands. She did not wish to harm the woman, nor was that her plan. Instead, she lifted them to her arm, her right fist to her forearm. She would draw an X on the outside. Blood would be drawn. She didn't know what the woman was, but to her knowledge only two things bore fangs. Neko, and the vampires.

Chisu was a woman of secluded darkness. She was kind hearted but a cold shell. She would only be welcomed by the darkness if anyone at all. There was no doubt in her mind that this was an answer that would suffice.

The blood would creep out of her wound, leaving a few small trails from her arm. Few drops would land on the bench before Nameless would set her empty bowl to the side.

She would rise. "Chisu is right here, as she has always been." and she would turn to go after her animal, leaving behind a scent that only the two of them would every understand, the scent of rot and decay.

The smell of the bleeding flesh Chisu had worn on her back, since she had came to Phantom Lord.
