Varian
Varian strode down the stone hallway, Vega chirped excitedly as she raced around the hallway. Her yellow mane ruffled as she put her body into the leaping position. Then with all her might she jumped, her body stretched and she extended to her full length. Though the leap was magnificent, they still weren't anywhere near entering the arena.

Varian had heard that the arena wasn't used all that much, and even if there were other people there, it was most definitely large enough to fit more than one group of sparring mages. Varian was here on a different note though, he was here to train. The night he tried to regain his memories had been a complete failure. Whatever he had made was gone, Varian was stuck with this odd symbol under his collarbone, near his right shoulder. The only positive that had emerged from that night was what was left of the white book. Along with making that mutated monster, he had summoned some anceint tomes and scrolls. They were very detailed, teaching one how to slay a demon with a specialized magic. So Varian pocketed the tomes and scrolls and began to learn the magic that was detailed in the tomes.

The light pierced the dark tunnel that Varian had been walking through. As he emerged he crunched his feet into the ground and kicked up some dust, he had no idea how long he would be here, but it was best to take ones time, and not to rush into things right away, maybe a little warming up with Vega wouldn't be such a bad idea. He winked at Vega who seemed to bristle with life all the sudden. She took a stance to brace herself and opened up her mouth, "Now." Varian said quickly. Immediately a orb of fire about the size of a basketball emerged from her mouth and blasted forward. It traveled about 7 meters before crashing into the wall where Vega had aimed, it happened to be near one of the other entrances but it didn't matter much. All it left was a little scorch mark on the wall. Varian leaned down and gave her a little pet, "Good job, I wonder what else you're able to do." He said, "Good thing no one was in the way though." Vega chirped a little bit, she seemed fine, the spell must have not taken up a lot of her magical power. Varian looked up at the scorch mark, it sure was a blessing that no one was there, he didn't want to get into a fight. With a hurried motion Varian scooped up Vega and did a little twirl just for show, then quickly placed her back down. now the question was what to do next?Placing his hand calmly back down on the ground he took a deep breath, he had nothing else to do for now. Maybe a little break right in the beginning wouldn’t hurt anyone. Taking a breath he sat down and closed his eyes.

Varian
Varian awoke quickly from his slumber. It was night, he must have fallen asleep. The stars shone like a small child had thrown glitter all over the night sky. The moon was their face, shining bright down on its world. Something rose up in Varian, tears welled up in his eyes. Not the small kind that you can hide. The kind that stream down your face wildly. Except this time he wasn’t crying. It was a feeling, a feeling he remembered clearly, there was just nothing to put his face to match to the feeling. Just the feeling of love and the want to become a protector of something. Like the child who drew the night sky. Varian clenched the earth, waking Vega who sat next to him. Standing up carefully, she brushed her face next to his and dried the tears that were on his face instantly. Almost instantly all his sadness was gone, it was like someone caressed his face,
A mother caressed his face, a mother he never knew. Once again a question arose in his mind. If he had had a mother, and she was still alive what would they be thinking. What if he was married?!? What if he had kids? They’d all be suddenly fatherless and husbandless, fully alone and no idea where he had gone. This. Life. Was. Awful.  What if there was someone out there in need of him who wanted him to help them, who was unknowingly waiting for his return or his saving hand. No matter what, no one would know what happened to him. The family member that dropped off the face of the planet, the mystery that left everyone. The one they think they see out of the corner of their eye, but they ignore it. If only they would look twice they’d see him, but yet he wouldn’t see them.

With all his will he pushed himself up off his feet to look at his surroundings. There was no one there except Vega and him. “What an odd moment, huh?” He asked Vega, who chirped lightly and gave him a little smile at his new found emotional strength again. Suddenly a hand yanked him by the shoulder and pulled him up. It was a man who was taller than Varian, the man also looked at least a little stronger, by most definitely not as fast as Varian who was ready to slide away if the man decided to attack. “Excuse me?” Varian said. The man eyed him closely, “the name is Ezekiel, get out.” The y’all man said. His hair was scgraggly and brown and his eyes a sickly yellow green. Tensing his hand he showed Varian his fist, “I said get out thot.” Ezekiel said. Varian raised his hands, “please remove your fist from the vacinity of my face.” Varian said calmly. The man grunted again and tended to fire again. But the second grunt came from Vega bursting out on her hind legs and head butting the man in the stomach full force, throwing him down on his butt. “Excuse me?” Varian said.

Varian
Ezekiel groaned and pulled himself up and swore crassly under his breath. “You weak bastard, letting your animal do the work? That’s a chump thing to do.” He criticized Varian. “She happened to act before me.” Carin said smugly with a shrug. Ezekiel roared with anger, “you’ll regret this,” he began. “I’m Ezekiel El Anour. A member of the glorious Lamia scale.” He finished with a smirk. Ezekiel peeled off his jacket to reveal what was underneath. A simple white tank top that didn’t add much coverage, it stretched to cover his broad chest. Strapped onto his back was a long spear that had some kind of family crest etched into it. “That’s a nice spear.” Varian said quietly. This seemed to edge Ezekiel El Anour over the edge. He pulled out his spear and charged at Varian the spear was a short one, about 1.25 meters and they were 3 meters apart. Varian jumped to the side, gliding safely away from the spear. Ezekiel’s own weight slowed him down more than he must have expected because he roared again and turned to a prepared Varian who had leapt again. Towards The slow Ezekiel and planted a kick straight in the man’s face. Ezekiel stumbled backwards allowing varian to head backwards. “Strength doesn’t make up for speed.” Varian said. Ezekiel laughed, a little bit of blood dripped from his cheek, “and speed doesn’t make up for strength.” He said. Varian cocked and eyebrow. “Actually I’m pretty sure it does make up for strength.” Varian said. Ezekiel groaned. “Who are you so I can know how much I hate you when I’m done?” He asked. Varian smiled, “the name is Varian Chevalier. And my friend Over there is named Vega, a member of the flareon species.” He said matter of factly. Varian dropped of his own jacket and revealed a skintight black shirt that covered up to his elbows. “Though, before I continue beating you, let me offer you some knowledge. If you would allow?” He asked. Ezekiel lessened his stance and cocked an eyebrow, “and what would that be?” He inquired. “My suggestion is that when your battling two people always keep an eye on both, because when you’re not paying attention one might have Time to act. Do it Vega!” Varian yelled. Vega took the bracing stance one more time. She let out a high pitched noise that sounded like flare. A mass of fire began to amass in the back of her mouth, causing light to spill out on to the arena. With a howl, she launched the fire blast at the target. The blast was 20 centimeters wide and three meters long. It collided with an explosion on Ezekiel’s back. The fire charred some of the tank top onto his back, as it also burned through the rest of his skin, revealing a charred fleshy mess that spanned about 2/3rds of his back. The rest of the shirt was so charred and torn that it fell off, only to reveal a phantom lord tattoo centered around his belly button. “Well someone flat out lied.” Varian said

Varian
Ezekiel smiled gleefully, an evil grin crept over his face, “my real name is Antony Sanzi, you might know me as The Phantom Spear.” He snarled. Varian prodded through his loose memory before landing on who this man happened to be. The Phantom Spear was an awful person, murdering innocent and burning towns. Some said he broke the rules of Phantom lord and was actually a rogue mage parading around in their attire. Either way this man happened to be an awful person and Varian wouldn't let him get away with anything.

Making his stance more purposeful he prepared to take the man on quickly. He spread his feet apart, this way he could reach Ezekiel without trouble when he pushed off. His hands were balled into fists, but it wasn't like that was going to do much help, he wasn't strong. His best hope was to get close enough to use a spell that would disable the man.

Varian moved his feet through the dust of the arena, creating a interesting crunch that caused the phantom spear to prepare his own attack. He held his spear, point at varian, ready. Vega had retreated one more time and was prepared to attack again. Varian pushed himself forward at his max speed. He closed the distance quickly, his max speed was 8 meters per second, and they had only four between them. As he slid underneath the phantom spear's spear he snapped his finger. A screeching noise filled the arena and a blinding white wind filled a four meter diameter around Varian and consumed Ezekiel as well. The wind quickly receded and the phantom spear sat in the middle of the arena blinking profusely while he rubbed his temples. If the spell had worked as plan the man would be disoriented currently. It would have only consumed 100 mana leaving Varian with plenty of mana left in the long run.

Taking his chance he ran up behind the man and nailed him in the back with his elbow, doing at least C-rank damage with his strength level. Since Vega had done 1x B rank damage and 1x C rank damage the man would have suffered from a total of 1-A rank damage.

Varian thought a little more indepth once again. The man seemed to be reaching his wits end. A spell from him and a spell from Vega would leave him out of commission and Varian and Vega in the win. Taking his chance he prepared to cast a spell. But Ezekiel got there first. He placed one hand infront of him and held up his pointer finger. Green energy rolled around his body and then tightened, slowly it dimmed until there was nothing there. He was almsot completely invisible and in this light completely undetectable. Which left Varian at a major disadvantage. Groaning he had to think of a desicion first. Then out of the blue there was a pain in his right side and he slid across the field he had just been hit and honest to god it hurt like the dickens, this man was not getting off easily.

Varian
Varian groaned loudly. He was covered in dust. It was a fine dust, and it caked too. This was not how it was gonna end for him. Varian stood up. A little bit of blood stained his cheek. He was not going to take this as an answer. Stepping up he snapped his fingers. White wind began to blow, slowly but surely it began to clump together to take the shape of a peacock. Its tail was fully extended and its head feathers were draped around its neck. Its wings were ready to fly. This spell, Aurai, as Varian had chosen to call it would bring out his foe perfectly. with a point in front of him the aurai flapped its wings, stirring up the dust under itself. It burst forward with surprising speed. its stopped about 10 meters away from varian. it wasn't its full range but Varian willed it to stop. It hovered for a moment, like it scanning something. Then it cawed back to varian who allowed to go a little farther to reach its full extent. The bird flew a little farther and stopped again. Lastly it cawed once more in a negative. Sighing Varian tried a D-rank spell range for the last time. The bird flew ten meters back to Varian but stopped five meters away from him. Then all the sudden it chirped louder and began to glow with unearthly light, it had found something. Varian was prepared to take this son of a out of the game.

Varian snapped his fingers and 6 spheres of white wind began to rotate around him. Then with another snap the spheres elongated themselves into spear like beams with a diameter of 3 inches per spear. Next they shot out towards where the aurai had sensed its target. They flew with amazing spears and there was the satisfying thunk of them connecting with their target. They'd do B-rank piercing damage, leaving the man mostly incapacitated. He moaned loudly as his spell was disabled. He rolled on the ground. He had thrown his spear in pain and he was now unable to reach it. Varian smiled, he was in his winning stretch now.

Snapping his fingers the aurai was unsummoned. Walking over he placed his boot on the mans head. Without saying word he shook his head. in this entire battle he had barely scratched his mana, only using a max of 300 mana total. He returned to a safe distance, it was Vega's turn and she knew it, she'd do the final blow that would push the man over.

Once again Vega dug her feet into the dust and let out the familiar flareon call of Flare, which slowly grew with pitch as flame began to grow in her mouth. A ball of fire grew in front of her mouth the size of her own body, a spell he hadn't actually seen coming. Then with a last "FLARE" she lobbed the ball at Ezekiel who was moaning on the ground. It burned up everything in a 4 meter area of where it landed, which happened to include the phantom spear. The man moaned loudly and collapsed on the ground. He wasn't dead, just extremely incapacitated. Varian dragged his body to the nearest Rune knight station and turned him. Luckily it only happened to be outside the arena. He wondered how he had managed to get past the guards. But he chose not to think about it. They had had a hard day of training and he was now going to sleep.

He walked into his inn and pulled off his shoes and chagned into a pair of some sweatpants and soft T-shirt before falling down into his bed to sleep and not have to worry about life. He fell quietly asleep, it was welcome.
