Kanya

THIS IS THE PAIN I BEAR, YOU'LL NEVER UNDERSTAND

The day was still young as the sun rose from behind the mountains that decorated the farmlands. It was a peaceful location if you could say that, even with the windmills that decorated the plains, along side the farm houses which was spaced from each other. Each house having its own huge portion of land, the few animals that was present didn’t make much noise as it was still early morning. One of the hills that was in the area was occupied, by a woman no less. Kanya, a woman who was raised on the countryside of Fiore and now traveling from town to town just to find a purpose. She was sat on the hill with her back arched backwards and her right leg stretched out in front of her, as her left leg was bent at the knee. Her arms on each side of her, as her hands was behind her on each side. Those scarlet red eyes looking towards the sky, Even as she admired how beautiful the place looked. All it did deep down was remind her of her past, as her eyes closed and her thoughts wondering.”Shizuma…..” she murmurs to herself as she sat there. Her mind trailing off to the past on the beginning of how she first met the woman who saved her life.

Stay away from my children, you spawn of satan” yelled one of the woman that even spat on the little girl that was in front of her. The little girl couldn’t be no older than eight years old, scuff marks of dirt and bruises covered her body. It was like she was beaten up every single day just for being alive. That little hand reaching up to wipe the spit that had landed on her forehead off, this was a everyday treatment for her. Even those eyes that seemed so dead had little to no life in them. There Kanya stood in the center of a village that particularly raised her, now they all treated her like she was a demon….with no remorse. It was bad enough that she hardly spoke, fear of being judged even more over took the child. Everyday she walked the streets of the small village savaging for food, even if it was moldy old beard. It was something for her to eat and survive. She didn’t even have shoes to cover her feet when winter struck, ever since her parents left her here….her life been nothing but hell.

As Kanya entered the alley which was her home, there was a small cardboard box built in the shape of a small home. Kanya had two pieces of molded bread in her small arms, To think a eight year old was use to this. But sadly even this life left young Kanya scarred, her mind was slightly gone. “Mommy ...Daddy I’m home!” she smiled cheerful unknowing to her the images that was portrayed before her was just her imagination.”Mommy...Daddy you would never be mean to me right?” the young girl asked as she took a piece of the molded bread bringing it to her lips and taking a bite. Her teeth biting into the hard laven bread, pulling it till it tear with her teeth as the images of her mother and father standing before her was in her sights.”As long as i got Mommy and Daddy i’m happy, can we play tomorrow? No one plays with me anymore” her mouthful of that moldy bread as she chewed it slightly.

Her small hand reaching forward with the extra bread in her grip “Mommy and Daddy should eat ...too if you going to play with me, Mommy always said i had to eat to be a big girl...Mommy always said i had too….so why wont Mommy and Daddy eat?” she was curious, but how could a young girl understand that...her parents weren’t there and this was just her mind playing tricks on her. She continued to sit on that cold ground, her knees at her chest as this was the only way she could be warm. Those lifeless red eyes staring at the bread that was in the grip of her hand, as she placed the extra one on the ground for her parents to eat. The night was still young as the sound of footsteps could be heard through the alleyway. It didn’t take long for the eight year old girl to be found. Then being surrounded by about three boys older than her, her mind not even allowing her to notice them...she was lost.

Look what we got here, the girl who can't even accept reality…….no reason your parents abandoned you, they were Rune Knights after all..we know a child of knights is scum in this village, so why do you stay?”

The one talking actually being the leader of the group, as he noticed she wasn’t even paying attention to him. He kicked her hand causing Kanya to drop the bread she was eating, her hand would reach for the bread as she would find herself kicked right into the stomach, a scream leaving her mouth as it didn’t stop there. Kick after kick landing against her torso as the four boys trampled her with this constant abuse the scream of her pain echoing through the alley.

Mommy……...Daddy…….Help….M…”before she could finish her eyes would slowly begin to close as she was passing out from the pain. It was then she saw a shadow at the edge of the alley before completely passing out. Moments later her eyes would open, blood covering the alley walls. It didn’t even phase the emotionless girl. She sat up as she came face to face with the woman who saved her, even so much as their eyes would meet. Shizuma hand would reach as she was knelt down, cupping the little girl chin and smiling that mischievous smile of hers.

My my child, you lost so much…..yet you are surviving, why don’t you come with me? You’re a survivor….but only surviving isn’t enough, you must become stronger. So would you like to become stronger child?

It was then the sound of footsteps could be heard, that sound alone awakening Kanya from thinking about the past. The sun was high in the sky over the Baska Farmland, Kanya was raised in the country all this did was remind her of that time. But right now that wasn’t her concern as her head would turn to the side  as to take note of a new arrival…..she will fight if she needed to, because she was stronger than she was then.

She sat in the back of the carriage, hitching a ride with some farmer delivering hay. She rested her feet upon the wood, her elbows against her legs and her face cupped in her hands as she faced the rear, seeing all of the world that was being passed by. She sighed, it seemed as if every day that passed, she forgot more and more about what she wanted to do in her life, and was more and more set on following her gut feelings. She had no hate towards the feeling. She had prayed, and prayed long ago to this god, taking in her strength and protection. If for now, she was required for something, she would serve, and she would return to her life, however it used to be.

She sighed again, pouting at trying to remember. It was then that they hit a hole, the wheel of the cart dipping and rolling up, throwing the girl. Thefarmer paid her no mind and kept going.

"Stupidhead!" she yelled, waving her fist at the old man. He didn't even so much as turn to acknowledge what had happened.

Lost and confused, she had walked towards the closest building, a barn it seemed. She saw only one of the doors were open, and within it, shade. She could ask around for help, directions maybe.

But where was she even going?

Those red eyes paid attention to the approaching carriage, especially from her vantage point on the hill she was perched on. She was enjoying the peace of mind she was given, now all this noise was disturbing that. A soft sigh leaving those perfectly rounded pink lips of hers, as she had to wonder what brought someone who was driven by carriage to the countryside of Baska. This even made Kanya sit up slightly as she watch the scenario take place. “ So you actually back to reality now,Kanya” echoed the voice in her head as she sat up. “As much as i can be, but it look like we got other needs to take care of now. I was enjoying the peace and quiet” she shook her head as she watched the woman fall from the carriage after hitting a bump in the road, that had to be worse luck than she had when it came down to it.

She stood at full height as her hand would be placed on her  waist, as she watched the woman run off towards the nearby barn it was obviously the new arrival was lost. Kanya didn’t really budge as she wanted to just watch for now, It was surely the only way she knew how to do things like this. Her eyes being lifeless as they ever been ever since she was a child, she was like a empty shell that had a mind of her own. She had no purpose, all she understood she needed to get stronger. Her hand moving over to grip her arms as she gritted her teeth as a searing pain was scaling through her left arm.

It seem your magic is finally beginning to reject you, i can feel the power of it decreasing ever since i came to be connected with you. Is this the reason you don’t use it? This was your masters magic wasn’t it?” the voice echoed from within.

Kanya couldn’t help but bit her lower lip as her right hand had a tight grip on her left arm, which at the time was like it was burning from within. She clutched her left fist as her eyes even closed at that moment. Her expression was that one of pain, ever point of her face showed just how badly the pain was at that moment.  She even knew her time with her Masters magic was coming to a end, but she still had time.

It doesn’t matter as long as i can find a purpose, I’ll deal with this pain until the time comes for me to let it go. Shizuma would be disappointed if i was so weak and couldn’t take this simple pain” even her right hand trembled with its grip.

She bent her knees as she would, use that to jump from the hill she was on and bend herself as she lands bracing herself upon land. As soon as she landed she dropped to her knee, with her right knee touching the ground. It was as if the pain in her arm had spiked from just that moment. It was then the pain would begin to subside as she stood on the road that lead to the barn that the woman from before went into.

"You want the spirit, don't you?" her voice rang, a strange an angelic tone she had never heard before. Aria looked around to find nothing but darkness. The woman standing before her... looked just like... herself.

"You wanted to take over the guild, but you're far too weak. Would you dare to defy my powers?" What was she asking? What did she mean? Aria wanted to lead Phantom Lord, to take it over, but why? For what?

"Your powers..? Who even are you?" she asked, confused and lost. "Where are we?"

The girl, her fake copy, laughed, "You pray at my shrines yet you know not who I am. I'm the goddess that has be watching you, and if you dare attempt to rule over my domain again, I'll gladly kill you and all of your kin."

She paused, snapping back to reality, her body frozen in the doorway of the barn. It was dark inside and not a single animal was housed. It was long abandoned, and the thought in her mind echoed and replayed over and over. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes, trying to go back.

"Aria, you have been given your task. Make me naught to repeat myself." she stood ever closer, an inch before her face, as opposed to the half dozen meters previously.

"I apologize, my goddess. I will do as you say." She replied in answer. It had been a conflict of interest.

"Whatever she sent me here to do, I have to do it right, I can't fail." she spoke aloud to herself as she looked into the barn. "I can't. . . "

The pain that scaled through Kanya’s arm  suddenly came to end, as this pain been happening a lot lately. Her body was finally rejecting the magic she was given by Shizuma, which helped her get stronger. But now it was fighting against her body and tearing it from within with the constant strain that coursed through her body. The constant pain was a reminder that she still had room to grow, she had to continue to get stronger or die at the hands of another. Even if she was a survivor she needed the power to continue pushing forward. She shifted her body slightly allowing her to push herself to her feet, this allowing her to station herself on the road. Her grip on her arm loosen as her hand was removed and placed at her side. Her breathe was heavy as pant after pant left the gap between her lips, that pain was something else entirely.

Your body won't be able to last much longer, that magic is ripping through your mana and causing it to trigger like a explosion. Kanya you going to need to start taking it easy or you won't be here anymore, right now you’re a ticking time bomb” the voice echoed through her head.

Kanya stood there as she was in the midst of her thoughts, she knew she came down from the hill to check on this new arrival. Everyone who was knowledgeable of Baska knew the farms here was abandoned. So why would this woman come through here of all places, anything could happen to this woman in this part of Baska. Kanya closed her eyes slightly as a sigh would leave her lips, her body moving forward a step at a time as she was making her way to the barn. Kanya was pretty tall as she stood at a height of 5’7, this made her seem even more dangerous when she come face to face with other females due to the height difference.

Does it really matter? I survived worse in the life i lived up to this moment. A slight pain on my body won't stop me from moving forward, it just mean i am on a set time to achieve what i can from this point on” Kanya replied swiftly as she wasn’t going to waste much time trying to convince herself of a positive outcome, it just didn’t matter. If she could survive up to this point, then her coming face to face with her fate wasn’t nothing she couldn’t handle. It was then she heard the woman speak out loud. This made Kanya curious as she approached the woman from behind keeping a gap of ten meters between the two.

I don’t think you belong here, you should probably keep it moving…..”not even a hello had left Kanya lips, she was more on sending this woman away more than anything else. It was just them two in the area, their wasn’t even a sight of an animal or human besides them. Her arms would lift up till they fold under her breast. Those lifeless red eyes would be the main focus as her stature alone was demeaning.

How could anyone deny the voices in their head? Aria was not one to argue, but the woman before her obviously would.

"I-I I don't." she would say. It was true, this wasn't her plan to be here, but here she was. "I was supposed to be in the next city over. I was supposed to help this girl. But I'm too far now. I can't help anyone." she said it to herself, lower, but if the one before her was silent, she could hear every word.

She didn't so much as have a name or a description. She followed her feelings. But she did know what she had to help with, but the question of who would remain.

The woman would fold her arms, just as the purple eyed girl would nervously try to put her mind back together.

"Forget your feelings. Her. Bring me her." her voice rang, the figure of her mixing with her reality .Aria could see a copy of herself next to the woman, staring at her, watching her. But why? Who was she? Did it matter? This was her task. Or perhaps she was going mad.

She lifted her hand to point at the woman. "You . . .you you you you. . . " She would smile, as if she saw an old friend, "You must be the one that needs help!"

Kanya wasn’t one to around many people, and this wasn’t her cup of tea either. She came here in the mind set to just relax , which would allow her to gather her thoughts. But even as she stood there with her arms folded, the woman before her seem more lost than before. She simply would roll her eyes. Those scarlet eyes locking on the woman before her not letting the new comer leave her sights.

Kanya, don't do anything harsh...i know what’s going through your head before you even do, just let her go you are in no condition to do anything not in your condition” the voice echoed through her head, lucky Kanya was use to the pain that happened when that voiced talked.

Kanya allowed a sigh to leave her lips, she wasn’t a fan of situations like this. Her arms remaining folded as she listened, the woman really ended up in the worse place possibly for someone who came in by carriage. Kanya honestly didn’t understand what the woman was talking about, helping someone? The woman seem she could barely help herself even at this point of time.

I don't know what situation you are in neither do i care, but if its the city you are trying to go to just follow the road, and you should never come here again” the sternness of her voice showed she was serious in this regard. Her arms will unfold as she lifted up her arm and pointed toward the north which was the location of the city. But as she did that she was being pointed at by the woman.

I don’t know you, and i definitely don't need your help, Especially from a girl who barely seem can keep hold of herself and talk out loud like you did, so you probably got me mixed up with someone else” the tone of her voice more sharp than before.

She took a second to catch her breath. She was out of it. Dehydration maybe? Sleep deprivation? Why was she so nervous and lost? This wasn't her. Why... why was she like this?

"No, you're the one we need." she regained her composure. Her words slipped out of her mouth without any thought. "You're gonna help us bring her back."

Her hand would return to her side as she stood there. She had no idea what she said or why, who who we even referred to. But she had no reason to fight back. If this was what she needed, she would allow it. It was her doings. After, she would take the throne.

She was prepared to take the woman by force if needed. But she would never understand why.

In the eyes of the Manji, Aria was just another expendable follower. There was many to come an take her place. The sick, the dying, they didn't matter how strong they were. All would perish eventually, so why not for a cause.

"What are you, a mage?" she would say with a smile, "I wonder why she would want you."

Rude. Bitchy. This was who Aria was. This was how she always was.

It would take a moment before she was replied to, the woman seemed like she was out of breathe. Kanya stood there as she would lower her arm and return it to her side, she wasn’t good when it came to socializing with people that seemed more crazy than she was. She could only figure the woman hit her head more than she had thought at first that wasn’t shocking and she was there to see how it happened.

I don't know who “her” is but you are mistaken, you should really be on your way. Because how can you need me when you don’t even know me?” the tone of Kanya had risen just slightly at that moment, as a swift breathe left her lips allowing her to calm herself.

Kanya didn’t understand what was going through this womans head, she seemed more crazy than she was at this point and that alone was an achievement.Shaking her head not understanding how she found herself in these situations, but she always freaking did. Her hand reaching to scratch the back of her head which was itching since she got near this old barn. It was then she heard the voice in her head begin to speak:

Kanya, something don’t seem right with this situation, did you notice she said us? Who is us? And why do they need your help ...i mean maybe if it was a threesome maybe, but i’m not a fan of orgies

As the woman even asked her a question, wasn’t this woman saying not to long ago she didn’t belong here? Kanya didn’t like this one bit...her eyes looking towards her arm which was the trouble of her pain earlier. This woman gave her a weird vibe, it didn’t help she didn’t really trust many people to begin with. “How about we start with the real question….who is “she”?

"How does anyone speak of the god without a name?" She gave a laugh, as if it was out of pity. She didn't know much herself, but she had a tighter grasp on her powers than most.

"The goddess of second chances." she would say it, almost like a matter-of-fact. It wouldn't be far from the truth if she was speaking in a matter of being condescending. Maybe she just wanted to. "You don't look too well, but perhaps your magic is better aligned than mine." She set her right hand on her chest, her palm away, only her fingers against her breast.

She closed her eyes, and with her other hand lifted her hair and flipped it over her shoulder to set upon her back. "She doesn't like a heart of darkness, besides she already has a dark mage to help her." She opened her eyes and leaned a bit forward, taking a few steps as she did so. Her demeanor completely changed than it was a moment ago.

She didn't know anything about her, but she didn't care. If she was the one, then she had to go to the temple, that was just how it was. She didn't care how, it just had to happen. It would be then that her debt would be paid, and she would be free to live again. She would return to her training to take over the guild, she would rise.

At least, that was the plan.

God? Did this woman really speak of a god? Where was this god when she needed help the most? Nowhere she was left alone and abandoned fed to the wolves like nothing without even a regret from the people who did that to her. Her fist clutching tightly as the anger begin to swell within her as those lifeless red eyes and the pure expression on her face could only be known from the pain she went through to get here. It wasn’t because some god was watching over her, she was surviving and living the life that was saved by a single person. She didn’t believe in that godly nonsense people spoke of.

God? Gods don’t exist and i’ll appreciate it if you dont bring that up again. If gods existed would we lose what we can’t get back, wouldn’t they give us power to be stronger and survive without spilling the blood of others...before you bring up gods and goddess, tread carefully because second chances aren’t just given” her voice rising in a pit of explosive anger as if this talk was just triggering her from within.

Tread carefully….I won't repeat myself” Kanya stood there her body already emitting a purple like aura, which coated her body completely. This was the loose magic slipping out from her and forming this purple like coat that had presented itself. The anger she was feeling was making her lose control. Her magic simply releasing a tremendous amount of heat as it could be known she had no type of control over the magic slipping out of her.

Kanya!, calm down!!! Your magic is going out of control, listen to me you damn stupid girl!! Calm down!

I’ll calm down once my hand is wrapped around her throat, and her very life escape her body! Then i’ll calm down!” the anger exploded like a brilliant flame as both of her hands clutched in a fist at her side. “I hope...you prayed to your so called god, because you will be there with them shortly”

Kanya moved forward, a step at a time as she was within three meters her arm stretched out and her hand open as to wrap around the woman's neck. Lifting her arm up as she squeezed that neck within her grasp, lifting Aria straight off the ground. Those dark red eyes seeming even more menacing than they were before. Her grip only getting tighter as she was going to keep her promise, by sending the woman to her so called god. The magic erupting from her body wavering out of control so much it was ripping through objects within the barn. That dark energy wasn’t nowhere near in her control, nor could she stop it. The anger she felt was the fuel of this rampage nothing would stop her from killing this woman here and now.

Where is your god now? ….tell them to save you, or you rather die in this place like the rats. I guess..gods just don't exis..”before Kanya could finish speaking her words would be cut off by the sudden pain scaling all over her body. Her grip loosen enough to allow Aria to drop to the ground, as she stepped back inch by inch. The pain surging through her body was so much that she couldn’t help but drop down to a knee, her right knee touching the ground as the magic dispelled itself. She could hardly move, the magic had did it damage by tearing through Kanya’s muscles. Even as grunting from the pain, her body could hardly be moved without force...the magic had put its toll on her body. It would be a few moments before she could even get up or walk, so she was forced at this point and time to listen to this woman speak. Even as she was still trying to get up the voice spoke up:

Kanya….it’s over, just stay down...i warned you to calm down

"Gods are among us. They don't watch other those that aren't willing." in her eyes, it was the truth. Even if she pleased her to stop saying the word, it would drip from her mouth.

As she spoke, the girl would coat herself in an aura. She no longer smiled, her face drew cold. Her arms fell to her sides. She knew that her words were getting to the woman, but what exactly had she awakened?

Oh. That was it? She started to laugh. She was  scared for a second. Her hand would wrap around her neck, lifting Aria from the ground, and a smile would remain on her face. Her hands remained at her side, there was no reason for her to fight back. She knew the origins of Bodak. The force of her hand against her neck would make her blush, giving Aria a rush of excitement. For how long would the fun last? How long would be be angered?

But of course it wasn't for long. She would drop to the ground, falling to her knees, a frown upon her face. She sighed, her face the color of rose.

"My god grants me the power to go on. My god allows me to live free of fear from death's grasp. The Manji have come back from the dead. The Manji have given those worth, power to continue. The Manji. . . " she spoke, but only now held her tongue. The Manji? Where had this name come from? She had never heard the name until now. What was happening to her?

She would look up to the woman, who would be most likely struggling to get back up. ". . . could you, do that again before we go to Magnolia?"

Kanya’s body was still trying its best to recover from the magic ripping through her, each must in her body was like it was on fire. Her lips parted as heavy pants exit from the gap formed by her mouth. Her knee touching the ground along with her right hand, she acted reckless allowing her emotions to take control of her actions. Closing her eyes this was weakness that had shown itself, her magic couldn’t even last long enough to allow her to kill this woman in front of her. What was the point of being a survivor if she couldn’t even finish what she started. It was then she felt it the slight trigger in her head as the voice spoke:

Kanya, your body can’t take much more at this rate. One of these days you won’t be so lucky and survive the expulsion of your magic. You are literally a bomb ready to go off, with little to no time left. I understand this magic belonged to your master but you will die at this rate..

Don't you think i know that?! If i had power of my own...i could find the purpose i been looking for! You don’t have to tell me something i already know damnit” she replied within herself as this was something Aria wouldn’t be able to notice, it was at the moment Aria would be recovering from the fall that this happened.

Manji? What the hell was that? Kanya couldn’t even fathom because of the thoughts going through her head. But a being that could grant her power...now that was what intrigued her. Maybe this woman had her uses after all. Power is all she needed to live out the will of Shizuma. Slowly she struggled, but was finally able to rise to her feet with her knees bent the pain coursing through her muscles like a firecracker. Kanya didn’t understand a word that was said, but she understood power something she needed….maybe if this “god” could grant her what she wanted, then she will kill them where they stand.

Manji...and power, i don't know much about this Manji bullshit….but if you can give me power, then call me intrigued at the very least” the words came out slow with a hint of pain being heard clear as day. She was still struggling to stay on her feet as heavy pants left her lips, she turned towards the doors of the barn as she slowly paced herself a step at a time, until her arm lifted to rest on the door.

Ok you weird girl, i’ll play your game…..we better get going you may have to help me walk if you really wish for my help” she was going to play this little game for now, until this game became her playing field….and the ball was in her court. Her goal was set, whoever this Manji was, was going to help her if they wanted to or not…..the game had begun.

She would aid the woman and help her stand. She didn't mind lending a hand for the moment. The sooner she got to Magnolia, the sooner she could aid the Manji in reviving Nameless. At least, that s where she heard the temple was. But Aria was never good with directions, nor instructions.

"I can't make any promises for her sake, but I know she can ease your pain, for sure." she would never learn the humor in her words until months later. For now, she was going to help this woman get on the first train to Magnolia, but to her luck, better or worse, Aria would never actually go with her.

She would find herself distracted, forgotten, and on the wrong train heading the wrong direction.

Aria could have spoken with her on a more diplomatic means, of course, but that just wasn't her style. She could have mentioned her hunger for souls and the dying. Often outsiders made food offerings at the altars, while others left deceased animals for her to feast upon. To her, rot was nothing more than a seasoning.

But soon, Kanya would learn her own truth about the god. And she would learn that the god had already been risen . . .
