Quest: Took It For Granite

Client:
Mattoro: Former foreman, he and his crew would go into the mines for the town's needs. During a cold winter, they were promised great wealth that would allow them to retire if they kept on mining. In the end, the additional money was never paid, while Mattoro lost many good men when the mine crashed. Enraged, Mattoro and the rest of the miners rebelled and formed the Cold Colliers.

Summary: It is time to deal with Kalaus, the original contractor that had been present and in charge during the incident that killed so many of Mattoroís friends, leaving wives widowed and children without fathers. While it would be satisfying to raid his house with the full force of the Cold Collierís, it would bring too much attention to the gang. As such he needs you to go to the pub Kalaus frequents and poison his drink. You will be provided with the poison, but you mustnít let anyone suspect you were involved.

Enemies: None

Objective: End the life of Kalaus, the first of the two contractors responsible.

Extra Rewards: +2 Intelligence

Details:

  • Create a topic in Baska Town.
  • This time, Mattoro will approach you, beckoning you into a nearby alleyway to give you the details of this quest.
  • Despite stating that he wishes he could be there, and wants to rally the full power of his gang and bear down on Kalaus, Mattoro will agree that this is the safest course of action to protect his men from the authorities. He will provide you with a small vial of the poison, and state that you simply need to pour it into his drink.
  • Having gained some insight into Kalausí comings and goings from the information that Frankan provided during your previous quest, you will know the exact time to go to the pub, as well as the address of the pub itself. Either travel there now or later, either way you will have a few hours until Kalaus is supposed to arrive.
  • When he enters the pub, Kalaus will be tired and require as much alcohol as he can get his hands on. After a few drinks, he will be very drunk and be buying drinks for everyone in the pub, constantly boasting about his wealth and position as a contractor in the mines, much to the annoyance of some of the other patrons, but the free alcohol will stop them from doing or saying anything.
  • When the time is appropriate, get the poison into Kalausí drink, and make sure he drinks it. After he drinks the poison, he will instantly sober up, wide eyed, and collapse to the floor, foaming at the mouth and he chokes and dies.
  • Leave without arousing suspicion and return to Mattoro, who will be pleased the moment he sees you. As you tell him about the completion of the quest, he will state that a man like that deserved to die, showing a darker side that you havenít really seen before.
  • Mattoro will then reward you and bid you farewell.
