For someone so obsessed with money Thorn’s garments are in tatters, only barely covering up the right places. Her red shirt is a thin cloth covering her back and attaches at the front with s silver brooch with a blue jewel at the top of her breasts; the rest of the ‘shirt’ is attached by black strings below her chest leaving much of the front of her body open. The right side of her shirt goes down her leg a bit revealing the red and white designs that might have been at the end of the entire shirt before its abuse. The left portion is torn in rags in the middle of Thorn's waist. Her pants are more like underwear with the legs torn to shreds and in taters at the top of her thighs with a red V reaching into the pubic area but still keeping her modesty. The ‘pants’ are kept up my several black belts with silver metal, one across her waist with red outlines, another one loosely hanging on her left thigh, and another one attached to the shirt keeping that one in place. Attached to the second belt is what looks like a silver keychain, going on behind her right thigh. Her legs are filled with tattered and torn rags, barely hanging on and secured with belts; large silver gauntlet like shoes cover the lower part of her legs, with a matching one on her right-hand. A ragged cape that poofs up around her shoulders like a crow puffing its feathers goes down her back and rag-like sleeves cover her upper arms and down her back ending in tatters, a tell that it might have been a trench coat one point. Finishing the ensemble is a black choker and her entire left arm mysteriously covered by bandages, hiding the skin underneath from view. Why and how she puts this on every day is a mystery. Extra: Mystery no more: under the bandages on her left arm contain a rather demonic looking hand. Personality Personality: Thorn is a cold and serious person by nature. Task-oriented to a fault she just wants to get her current job done without trouble and get onto the next one. She resents being powerless and is always trying to improve herself but does not seek powerful positions; on the contrary, she likes to stay away from any kind of spotlight. Unsure of her new position in life she’s not certain how to handle new people so it’s hard to tell how much of her aloofness if real. Her obsession with money is very real and more akin to obsessive-compulsive disorder and hoarding disorder than an actual motivation at this point just by how she treats the money she earns. While her education ended at an earlier age than most she is still fairly intelligent and wise from her experience and travels, though still has much to learn. Her strength as an ‘evil’ character is her lack of personal pride, thus immune to the blindness it causes and the arrogance that comes with it. She believes in being professionalism as a mercenary an as long as it doesn’t conflict greatly with other things in her life will follow a client’s orders and keep their secrets. The curse mage does like a bit of dramatic flair in her fights and interactions, often putting extra effort into small things like swishing her cape coolly or making the lighting on her face dramatic. Thorn is also oddly dense to flirtation, lecherous gazes and jokes often misunderstanding them or waving them off. She does not take criticism of her lifestyle well but is eager to get advice on her combat abilities. All that she considers anyone should care about is that she’s a mercenary with little moralities and is more than eager for money. This makes working for dark guilds easy and beneficial for her and is prone to joining guilds she deems as ‘winners’ and give her a good amount of freedom to operate. Magic Magic Name: Curse Magic Magic Element: Darkness Magic Description: Fueled from her demonic hand Thorn can cast curses on her foes to weaken them in various ways with dark magic. It can also be used to buff herself and to cast attacks. Depending on the spell the curses can be subtle, but often not for mages. Upon casting demonic runes come out from her left arm to be applied to the one it debuffs or buffs. The arm itself can be used as an attack, shaped like a large demonic claw as it is, and can cast curse energies or auras from itself. History History: Born with the name Chueng Mei on a town beside the sea in the country of Sin, Thorn lived a relatively peaceful childhood. She had parents, an older brother and a younger brother, with on her, their father and her older brother being able to use magic. While there was bumps in their relationship, particularly with her parent’s obsession on being proper which Mei resented, they loved each other dearly. Mei was in training to be a shaman, a barley proper class for a lady but closest to what the young girl actually wanted, when things went south. Due to the greed of the lord ruling her area he attempted to take over the neighboring lords land, causing a small-scale civil war in the country with no regard to the innocent civilians caught up in it. Pirates, dark guilds, and mercenaries were hired in abundant by both sides until nobody could tell who was friend or foe. Her town was burned down in a raid, though Mei and her family made it out in time. They then traveled the land as penniless refugees, surviving well at first thanks to the families magic users. That did not last since soon their lord demanded that all those who are battle ready and not able to pay a fine must be forced to join the army, including Mei’s older brother and father. The Cheung's rushed to earn enough money to pay the fine but wasn’t able to raise enough for even one of their men; thus the two were conscripted. The struggle was harder for her family from then on out since the skills Mei had didn’t earn much money and her morals held the girl back from taking higher paying jobs. Soon their mother got sick in the dirty refugee camp they were in, and the struggle to raise funds began again, this time for medicine. Raising money didn’t help when the lord took advantage of the poor people by raising the prices of food and charging them for even getting water to pay for the war. The mercenaries they hired were often no better, taking advantage of the common people by either extorting them for ‘protection’ payments or taking their few belongings for ‘the war effort’. This and her mother soon dead from illness brought on Thorn’s dislike for authority and being powerless. Her lord was losing the civil-war and seeing that most of their battle force was destroyed by the enemy Mei assumed her father and older brother were dead as well. She gave up her country as lost and took her only remaining family, her little brother, away to settle in a more peaceful country. But the road there was plagued by banditry, evil cults, and poverty. Famine ran rampant in the countryside and to Mei’s horror, she and her brother were beginning to starve to death. She began to give little of the food she could find to the boy, but even then with the lack of strength magic naturally given to mages Mei’s brother was dying faster than her. It was on the road between towns when the boy finally died, Mei near death herself. But fate had other plans because before death took her the girl was found by a group of cultists. They brought her to their base and used the dying girl in a dark ritual. It succeeded, but not in the way they imagined. The girl was cursed with a demonic arm but stronger magical powers and in a hysterical rage slew the cultists with her new powers. That day Cheung Mei changed her name to Thorn Vancarr to not only signify her changed person but to hide her past as well, and vowed to live a new life freed from burdens from her past in Fiore. Years passed and Thorn was not, in fact, free from her past; she was illogically obsessed with money, disliked authority, and wanted power due to her past. But she gave up on the morals she once had, seeing how they only weighed her down. After working as a mercenary for many years she decided to join a powerful dark guild to earn extra money, for protection, to get access to greater powers, and because they seemed like they would become important figures in the future.
