". . . okay run it by me again?" She stood there, her leather case slung on her back, her artifact kept safe. She stood in a small cafe with the well known young lord of Hargeon, Reign Valystasia. Chi heard some things about him, but knew very little. She had done a few jobs between Shura and her first meeting on the park bench, and she now stood beside him, trying to make sense of what was asked of them.

"I'm asking for you to help me watch over my niece for the afternoon, I have a meeting I have to get to and others who I hired before all abandoned her. I know he's a tad difficult but she will warm up to you I'm sure." the young lord spoke, and Chi looked at the little girl. The child made a face and stuck her tongue out at Chi, of which Chi replied with the same facial expression in return.

The girl was going to be a hassle, and Chi could already tell she would cause them problems. But both her and Shura would be able to tackle the problem. She was asked to help and of which she would obey.

"What an evil little thing." the voice spoke to Chi. It existed in nothing but her mind. She would silently agree with her own god as she continued to stare down the hellspawn before them.

Shura Ranzu †
Shura yawned while walking down the streets of Hargeon. He didn’t get much sleep the night before due to the dream. He wasn’t in his usual attire, t-shirt, shorts and some gym shoes. His hair was a mess and he was exhausted. Not to mention he had no answers for what exactly went down. He rubbed his chest where the mark of the demon had burned itself into his skin.

He wasn’t sure of it but he just knew something had changed within him. Geno had not been around since that happened neither. Shura tried to play it in his head that it wasn’t real, not of it was. It just couldn’t have happened. But then again in a world filled with magic and mystery was it really that farfetched that something like that could happen. Regardless he couldn’t sit around and rattle his brain about the situation. He had a job to do. He met a individual the day before in the square. A woman who decided to tag along on his adventures. Shura wasn’t against the idea but it was bad timing that the dream happened. Being exhausted while working was going to make this day creep by.

Shura was a bit late to the scene. With a messy hair he approached the location that he was supposed to meet up with Chi at. He could see the Lord and Chi conversing over something. Shura caught the back end of the conversation. Today was a easy job, the two were meant to babysit the kid. Reign had a confused look on his face. “Shura?”

Shura looked up with bags under his ways and gave a slight wave. “Yea, a bit under the weather. But I am here.” Shura had worked with Reign in the past so he was a bit lost for words. But he just shook his head and bowed to the two. “Take good care of her.”

“Will do, sorry I am late Chi. I didn’t sleep too well last night.”

"Okay then!" she''d say with a cheery smile, looking away from the small demon. Something told her it was going to be hell on earth. Before she could ask another question, the man would be gone to tend to his other royal duties.

"Okay, little one let's go have some fun." Chi would hold her hand out to the little child, only to have her pout and stomp her feet.

". . . Okay, well can I at least know your name?" she'd ask, hoping it wouldn't be a total loss of her day.

She would turn and smile to the man beside her, "And no worries by the way, just glad that we can help the city in some way." But she wouldn't speak of the evils she had done just the day before. After they parted from that bench the man did his own thing and Chi had taken the night to take care of business. She didn't sleep, but again she had slept for hours before she met that man.

"You will address me as your majesty, I'm royalty you know." the girl would finally speak before staring away from them.  "Carry me, peasant."

Oh no.

How Chi hated that word. Now she never beat a kid before, but she was willing to make an exception.

Shura Ranzu †
Shura rubbed his temples to quell the headache coming on. The small girl looked like she was full of trouble. She had a agitated look that offset her childish look. Chi seemed a bit more interactive with the child and Shura just kind of tagged along. He avoided this job for sometime because he wasn’t a kid person. He just did not enjoy being around children even if they were well behaved. He got the vibe that she was going to be a handful. He just watched the two before the little girl spoke. ‘Nasty little thing,’ he thought before speaking. “I know what we can do. Let’s head down to the beach. It's a nice day outside.”

Shura tried to perk up and sound excited to hide the exhausted demeanor. In reality he just wanted to lay down and go to sleep. “It’s not that far from here.” The young girl looked excited at the idea but she still wouldn’t move. “I am not moving from this spot until someone carries me.” The girl was adamant about being carried.

Shura didn’t want Chi to get dirtied up because of this girl so he took it upon himself to be the mule this one time. He turned and kneeled down. “Climb on, I am not carrying you. But you can ride.”

Excited, the girl ran and latched onto Shura’s back. Grasping tightly around his neck nearly choking him. He stood back up and looked at Chi. “Let’s go before it gets late.” After saying that he began to walk towards the beach from the estate. It was only going to take about ten minutes of walking to get there.

It wasn't until that they got to the beach that Chi finally realized that she had just cleaned her dress, but never fully patched the bottom of it. And here she would enter a beach where again, she would be dirtied by nature.

The three of them would reach the sand, only to have the girl raise her annoying voice for a request of them.

"Peasant, I require seashells." the girl would speak, "I want every shell on this beach."

"What in Maker's hell would you need them all for?" Chi would ask. It was absurd by nature. This girl was insane, even if she was just a child. To get every shell? No. She would get enough to make it seem like she got every shell on the beach. She would dumb shells by the hundreds for this little devil.

"How dare you question me you-"

"Forget I asked. . . As you wish . . .my majesty." she woudl bow before running off onto the beach, stealing a bag from some left behind towel. They must have gone swimming. Chi would return it later, probably. . . .but also probably not. Oh well. Time would tell.

She begun to take up every shell she could find. She would get every damn shell on the beach. She was going to make that kid shut the hell up.

"One shell, two shell, three shell, four shell . . . . "

So she got to work.

It wasn’t long before the three ended up at the beach. The sun was up high but it wasn’t too hot. The calm cross breeze gave a bit of relief from the heat that was present. Shura was properly dressed unintentionally. But Chi and the princess were fully clothed. Shura stopped and kneeled down so the girl could disembark from his back. He stood back up and he watched her dust herself off. The silence was short lived before she went back to barking orders. Shura rolled his eyes and took off his shoes. Afterwards he began to walk close enough so he could feel the cold chill of the salty water. It was actually soothing to him but colder than normal. For how warm it was the water shouldn’t have been that cold to touch. Chi didn’t seem to happy about having to collect them, “No point in arguing with the brat.” His tone came off cold and he had no plans to apologize. She scoffed at him, “How dare you!”

Shura ignored her and continued to pick up shells. He saw Chi off picking up shells and found her to be beautiful. He was sly about it and only used his peripherals to admire her from afar. Even though Shura was a warmonger with a plan he was only human. It had been a while since he had been able to interact with a woman. Usually it was always a client thing, maybe a little flirting with the girl at the aquarium.

She folded up the front end of her skirt, the bandages that wrapped her lower body would be seen. They were tattered like her dress, but appeared to be stained with blood, as if she was injured, or perhaps it wasn't even her own blood. It wasn't enough to cause a scene or a problem, but to the eyes of those that looked, perhaps it would raise a few questions.

In the pocket she had made out of her own attire, she held a good few dozen shells from the size of coins, to ones that even she had trouble holding in a single hand.

She would make her way back to the girl, irritated at her own job, but with enough self worth to make sure that what job she did do, was always a good one. She wasn't going to get the brat get the satisfaction of presenting something Chi wouldn't be able to do. Her own power and skills wouldn't be bested by an infant.

She would make her way to the girl and roll each shell off her dress onto the sand before the girl. She was going to get every damn shell on that god forsaken beach.

She was going to succeed.

Shura Ranzu †
Shura used his white tee shirt as a means of gathering shells. By using the bottom of his shirt and curling it up he was able to create a pouch. Water caused the shirt to become almost see through. He turned to see that Chi had accumulated quite a bit of shells also. The girl still seemed unsatisfied with all of it. It then dawned on Shura, ‘What was she going to do with all of these shells?’ He didn’t want to add gas to the fire because he just insulted her. It was still a good question though. Was she just doing this for some twisted amusement? He wasn't going to look to deep into it. 'I am not getting paid enough to put up with this shit.'

He didn’t need to get Chi in trouble for his insult. So he decided it would be better just to play nice from here on out. Shura followed Chi’s lead and dumped the shells right in front of the little girl. “Good my servants, now take me to the forest!” she yelled.

Once more Shura found himself rolling his eyes at the girl's tone. She knew the two could not do anything to her. The princess was under the protection of the Royal Family and Rune Knights. He let out a sigh and repeated the instance before where he got down on one knee. The girl jumped on his back but looked at her hands. She felt the wetness of Shura’s shirt from the water. “My dress!”

"Sorry, wet from collecting your shells."
He replied

She didn't speak clear words, just garbled nonsense mumbled angrily. She knew it was her fault why he was wet, she just didn't want to admit it. Shura had a smug look on his face because her getting dirty and wet was a byproduct of her own bitchiness. “Let’s go Chi I wanna get this over with so I can get paid.” The girl said nothing and just held on tightly while they walked towards the forest.

Even though the sun was beginning to set, Chi was getting burnt out. She had returned the bag some time ago, the shells mostly in a large pile on the beach. Chi could tell the three of them were burnt out and tired. She would take a large umbrella from a neighboring group, only to quickly explain it was for the lord's niece. They wouldn't argue after she spoke and Chi would follow the two.

She would keep a fast pace, lifting her shade to cover the two of them. "None of us remembered to put on sunscreen. . . at least I don't think so. So this should help." She'd smile, her face red and burnt.

She would follow the man and the small child who seemed to be more and more tired as the way went on, into the forest. They would get there in no more than a few minutes. The sun would be cast behind clouds and Chi would dispose of the umbrella just on the ground. The forest was more of a field with tall grass, bushes and rocks. It looked more like a maze than a forest in her eyes. But with it, she could see the hundreds, no, thousands of beautiful flowers.

Was this part of the child's plan?

Shura Ranzu †
Shura led the way into the forest, he could hear Chi shuffling behind him. He peered backward to see she was a bit on the tired side. She snagged a umbrella to keep the sunlight beating down on the party. Shura appreciated the notion and the princess did not care to show signs of gratitude. She expected this kind of thing from her servants. Shura was thankful nonetheless. “We both appreciate it Chi.” He bucked a bit to unsettle the girl a bit so she could take a hint. She only scoffed and held on tightly. The girl was panting from the heat, she was a bit overdressed for the occasion. He was most likely the coolest one here due to being in lighter clothes. The three made it into the forest and he let the girl off. She wiped her dress off and pulled out a small napkin. She dabbed the beads of sweat off her forehead and looked around for a moment. She spotted the army of flowers in the opening. The girl pointed at the ground and spoke, “I demand you collect flowers!”

Shura’s eyes widen at the beauty of nature, admiring the field of flowers that were protected by the covering of the forest. Untouched by man and welcomed by all small creatures. He could see rabbits hopping around and even a deer off in the distance laying down in the floors. It was quite the sight to behold. Not paying attention to the girl he walked off into the flowers, carefully stepping in open areas to minimize the damage to the surrounding beauty. Unknown to the two the girl slipped into the forest while they weren’t paying attention. Shura was lost in nature for a moment. He picked a few and turned to Chi and gave a warm smile. But that smile turned into a frustrated frown quickly. He noticed that that the girl was gone. “Where is the girl?”

Turning to face Shura, her hands were full of various flowers. Petals littered her head and grass stained her dress. She looked nervous, or perhaps excited to be around nature like this, but even so, it wasn't their purpose there. They had a job to do.

"NA NA NA, NOT TODAY!" she called out, dropping all of the flowers. She would sprint into the foliage only to disappear into the leaves. Hopefully Shura would be behind her, looking for the girl as well. If she knew the child well enough, she was starting trouble and was going to make them clean it up.

She would run and duck between tree trunks and large branches. She couldn't have gone far. No, she wasn't distracted for long. The girl had to be close by. The light of the sunset would still give them both good lighting. She could only imagine what the girl was doing. She was most likely making squirrels and other small rodents act as her slaves, picking her berries and other goodies. The thought of it drove Chi mad and furious. She was going to get that girl and bring her ass home to her uncle. She was tired of this bullshit.

It would be no more than five or ten minutes until both Chi and Shura would come together and realize they had searched the majority of the forest. There was only one place left for them to check, and it would be a large tree that was hidden behind brush and other things. Chi would nod to him to show she was ready.

Even if their babysitting turned into a rescue mission, she couldn't let her guard down. Anything could happen in this forest.

Shura Ranzu †
Shura was at a complete loss for words. He smiled as his female companion yelled at the top of her lungs before dashing off. After the girl, Shura wanted to give chase but the air changed suddenly. He could hear the sounds of footsteps beside him. “Got yourself a weird one.” It was Geno, the fragment of his psyche came back to haunt him. “You have been gone for days and suddenly show up now?” Shura responded.

“We both know why I was out of the picture. I had to let you get adjusted.” Geno’s words forced a flashback of the dream and the burning sensation returned. Shura bent over and grabbed his chest. “Yea that, I just wanted to make sure you knew I existed. I think it’s about time we had a talk. I think it’s time.” Laughter followed as he faded away.

The burning stopped and the pain left him just as fast as it came. He stood back up and Geno was gone. ‘Cryptic more than usual.’ He thought to himself. He would be lying if he didn’t say he wasn’t intrigued, Shura was unable to find answers on his own. He walked off in a different direction while searching for the girl. It took about ten minutes before he caught up to Chi. Looked like she had no luck finding the girl neither. This was bad, he wasn’t one to hurt kids if he could avoid it, let alone lose them. The bigger issue was if they didn’t find her the royal family would be barreling down on them both. Chi was ready to go but they had no direction to go. But then he heard it, the sounds of a girl crying. It was distant but it had to be her. She was royalty she most likely got lost and needed to be found.

“Let’s go.”

Shura ran off in the direction he heard the crying. It took about five minutes before he found the child crying hysterically. ‘Serves you right.’ This was the thing he wanted to but instead he just smiled and wiped the tears from her face. “Come on, let's get you home.” The girl wiped her face, trying to get the water worn makeup off her face. She nodded and stood up. She didn’t say anything just followed Shura. “I think it’s time we got her home.” With that he led the way out of the forest and back to the castle. It took twenty minutes or more of walking. This time the girl walked on her own. They made their way into the castle, two maids exited out. One of them carrying the reward for both of them in hand. They did the exchange, Shura let out a deep sigh of relief. “We didn’t get paid enough for this shit. Let’s go home."

"Ooh, I can feel something familiar." the voice rang in her ears as she followed Shura to get the girl. Chi would be silent, listening to her deity. Something was off, something was wrong.

Shura would take the girl, but she couldn't hear what he said, instead the voice, now much more feminine than before spoke to her again.

"It's quite lonely in this box. When we go home, I want you to free me." She spoke out, and it was only then that Chi understood why her god spoke to her. She was going to have to make a choice, but not right now. . . not here.

“I think it’s time we got her home.” the man told Chi. She would nod in silence as she silently followed him.

The three of them begun walking out of the forest and away from the beach. The castle was undoubtedly in the heart of Hargeon, and was the most beautiful building in the city. The girl would eventually make her way to Chi and held onto her dress as they walked up the steps to her home.

Chi would knock on the large doors of the castle, wondering if anyone would have heard her tiny fist compared to the large wooden doors. After a short wait, two maids would open the door happily and hastily. One carried a large bag of money, while the other went to retrieve the girl. They would smile to find the girl so quiet and calm.

". . . Thank you . . " the tiny girl would speak before being taken away.

"You two must have been special." the maid would say, handing Shura the money for them both. "She must have taken a liking to you both."

Chi would smile, only to have her companion suggest for them to leave. Despite the difficulties, she would miss the girl, but she would never again wish to babysit her.

Miss Manji would follow the man back down the stairs of the large fortress, only with her mind lingering on the life she lived before. She would find an outfitter to dress her tomorrow. She would quickly clean herself when the both of them returned to what they called home. She wasn't going to look like a street rat. She had cared for royalty and even assisted nobility. She had left a mark on Hargeon, but their time would be limited. She would find herself elsewhere and would have to look the part. It wasn't her home anymore. She had a mission to take care of, and it was to find her father's killer.

"What do you think this man will do with you when he's done with you?" The voice spoke to her, something she was growing more and more curious about. Everyone had their reasons and their own motives. What was hers?

"What do you mean?" Chi asked, her voice locked away in the back of her skull, forming the front of her brain.

"He smells like Nobunga." The spirit answered. A name was given, one that was foreign and familiar all at once. What did it mean?

". . . Who?" The girl asked, unsure if it was a who or a what. But she had to know. She had to know . . .

"Ah, so you don't know the name of your father's killer. . . " And the answer was given, and Chi was unsure to thank the spirit or to curse it. What would she make of the world . . What would she make of the man?
