Kazumi Kiseki

•Kazumi Kiseki•

Kazumi had taken a little bit of time off from requests so as not to burn herself out, as pacing is important, but now she was back in front of the quest board looking for another adventure to go on. So what was it gong to be today? She didn't want to go too far out of town, so that narrowed things down some for sure. The young lady scanned the board, looking for something nearby that seemed interesting enough. That was when she saw Something she ha yet to see before. It was a request flier much like any other, but this one seemed to be more than just one page. In fact, it was a whole packet, multiple pages stapled together and pinned onto the board all at once. Quite frankly, it looked pretty intimidating. Of course, that is what also made it unique and interesting.

So naturally, Kazumi peeled the stack of papers off o  the board and took a closer look at the contents. A Teacher looking for a sub? Well that did not sound adventurous at all. Still, someone clearly went through all the trouble, and Kazu already took it off the board... besides, it was just elementary school Math, right? How hard could it be? Flipping through the packet, The lesson plan was clearly laid out, so this mission (if you could call it that) seemed like it would be a cake walk. The Wizard proceeded to let her guild know her plans for taking this particular mission and went about her day, making a mental note of what day she needed to make an appearance at the school.

On the morning of her new and temporary substitute teaching job, Kazumi had gotten up pretty early. It wasn't anything that she was particularly happy with, but it was necessary if she wanted to get to the school on time. She got dressed as professionally as her wardrobe would allow, but That still meant a pair of Black jeans. Perhaps a bit of shopping in the future would do her well. In any case, she left for the school, once again turning to her map for guidance. This was a new location for her, after all. When she finally got there, She Entered the assigned classroom to find it full of expectant yet confused Children. Slowly Kazumi walked to the front, taking a deep breath to center herself before Gazing upon the kids with a determined smile. "Hello everyone, I'm Ms. Kiseki and I'll be subbing for Ms. Sandine. Let's begin class, shall we?"

A little girl Sitting in the front raised her hand just before Kazumi was able to start class. "Yes?"
"Where's Teacher Sandine?" Kazu paused for a moment, Deciding that it was not her place to reveal details. "Well, something came up and she is unable to come, so here I am! Looks like today we are starting with......" Kazumi looked at the first subject on the lesson plan. "Addition and Subtraction." Math huh? Not Kazumi's favorite subject, but basic adding and subtracting was a nonissue. Of course, based on the collective groan from the class, She could guess thy they didn't like math that much either. "Woah? What's this negativity for?"
"Math is BOOORING" came a boy's voice from the back. "Oh yeah? Let's make it a little more... Magical then, okay?" Kazumi waved a hand over the desk and her hand passed, little crystal statues of the classroom children would appear on the table top. "WOAAAAAAAAH" Kazu was suddenly hit with a Stampede of awestruck kids joining her up front to get a closer look. "Ah, so now you're interested."

"Okay, so here we have the class." she picked up two figures by random and put them off to the side. If two of you stand here, and one comes over to play," she pushed another figure toward the other two. "How many School kids are there?"
"THREE!" a collective answer from the class. "That's right. But what If I took four classmates, and added Six?" Kazu moved the statuettes accordingly. It took a moment of hesitation, but the kids did eventually come up with the correct answer of 'ten'. "Right! If you can learn everything that can make 10, math becomes much easier. 6 and 4, 7 and 3, and 8+2," She pushed the excess figures away so that she was only left with the group of ten. "It works backward too. If we have 10 school children, and I take away three, how many are left?" A quicker hesitation for the kids. "Seven!"
"Right, because if 7 plus three is 10, then 10 minus three is 7. Easy, right?"

As if on cue, There was a beeping sound coming from the intercom, followed by a Lunchtime announcement, then cheering Children running out the door. Kazumi sighed in relief of getting through one part of her day. This whole teaching thing was not so bad. Maybe she can get through it after all.

Kazumi Kiseki

•Kazumi Kiseki•

After about two hours of Lunch and Recess, the children returned To the classroom to continue their education. Of course, Kazumi had been following them around the whole time for two reasons: One, The class was her responsibility right now, and two, Kazu was not about to sit in an empty classroom waiting for them. That would be Silly. And lonely. And Creepy. So when they all returned to the classroom, the young wizard looked through the lesson plan to see where they should continue. Looking over Sandine's notes it looked liiiiiiiike.... More math? really? Well okay then. Kazumi reformed her Figurines on the desk "Okay, so last time we did Addition and subtraction. So now we're going up a step." She Gestured for the kids to come back up to the front so they can see better. "So say we have these five students, and we add 5. What do these two have in common?"
"They both have 5 of us?" It was the same little girl from before answering the question. "Correct. You already know that when you put 5 and 5 together it makes 10. However, adding groups off the same size is called Multiplying. It's kinda like adding the same number over and over again." She looked out upon the children to meet confused faces in thought. "So say you have three kids, and the meet up with Three kids. What's three plus three?"
"Six!"
"That's right. But then those six meet up with Three. What is six times three" All the while, Kazumi moved the figurines around to reflect her words. "Nine!" The Children Cheered. "Right! WE got to nine with Three groups of three. So what is 3 times 3?"
A momentary pause followed by a collective answer. "Nine!"
"Good! Now, we can do that backwards. Dividing is when you split the groups back up so that hey are all even. So Nine divides in to Three groups of three. So Nine divided by three is...?"
"Three!"
"Excellent. Now What--" Kazumi was interrupted by a knock at the door. The entire class looked over to see the school's Principal at the entryway with another woman. "Miss Kiseki, a moment please?" Kazumi was surprised. First of all, "Ms. Kiseki" Sounded strange. She was not used to that one. Secondly, she was nervous that she had done something wrong. Still, if she was needed she was needed. She joined the bosslady outside, wondering what was happening. "Alright, sorry it took so long but we were finally able to find a professional sub.  If you don't mind, she can take over now." It took a lot of willpower to hide Kazumi's relief. "No problem. I'm just glad I was able to help as needed."
"And Help you did, I cannot thank you enough for coming here when you probably have many more magical things you could be doing." The Principle handed Kazu an envelope of Jewels. "Here is your pay for the day. Thanks again." The crystal mage took the money with gratitude and went back into the classroom to say goodbye to the kids in introduce the actual sub. It was nice to leave knowing that Kazu had done something for  Sandine, the school, and those kids, however small that something really was.
